Bible Verses About Strength- 25 Encouraging Scripture Quotes

Bible Verses about strength must start and end with God. It is the power and strength that comes from God that carries us on. As Christians we need to surrender to the strength that God provides and His strength is made perfect in our weakness. As you read through these scripture quotes about strength be encouraged in that it  is not your strength that is needed but the strength that God willingly supplies. Feel free to use this study for a devotional, topical Bible study or Sunday School lesson.

All Strength Comes From God

It is so refreshing to know that we can rest in the strength and comfort that God will provide when facing troubles of many kinds. Let Him have the glory and show himself strong. Listen to this Bible verse: 2Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.” God wants to show Himself strong on your behalf. Surrender to Him today and let the peace that He gives you take over. We cannot fully serve God without full surrender to his Strength.

Bible Verses About StrengthStrength Comes From God Bible Verses

Isaiah 40:28-31  Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God,   the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint,   and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;   they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary;   they shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 41:10  fear not, for I am with you;  be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you,  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

1 Chronicles 16:11  Seek the LORD and his strength;  seek his presence continually!

Exodus 15:2 The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Philippians 4:13  I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Psalm 18:32-34  the God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless. He made my feet like the feet of a deer  and set me secure on the heights. He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

1 Corinthians 10:13  No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Psalm 119:23  Even though princes sit plotting against me, your servant will meditate on your statutes.

Examples of Showing Strength in the Bible

The following Bible verses on being strong show us biblical examples of strength and the faith it takes to trust in God so completely that He is your strength. Imagine how much faith it took for Abraham to be willing to sacrifice his long awaited son Isaac.

  • David

1 Samuel 30:6  And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.

  • Paul

2 Timothy 4:17  But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth.

  • Peter

1 Peter 4:11  whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

  • Joshua

Joshua 1:9-11  Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”And Joshua commanded the officers of the people, “Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you are to pass over this Jordan to go in to take possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.’”

  • Abraham

Genesis 22:1-3  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here am I.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.

Bible Verses Showing Strength Comes From Faith Not From Fear

Are you struggling through a situation today and are grasping for answers? How should you respond? Respond with faith and not fear, knowing the promises of God and His mighty hand will hold you through any situation!

Psalm 27:1   The LORD is my light and my salvation;    whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life;  of whom shall I be afraid?

Matthew 17:20  He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Mark 10:52  And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.

Matthew 21:21  And Jesus answered them,  “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith anddo not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen.

Bible Scripture Quotes About Strength as Related to Courage

Jesus has truly overcome the world the day he gave His life for all on the cross. Take peace and be encouraged knowing it is Him who is mighty to save. He will not leave you or forsake you.

Deuteronomy 31:6  Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

John 16:33  I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Psalm 23:4  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,   I will fear no evil, for you are with me;   your rod and your staff,    they comfort me.

Strength Bible Verses- Because of the Hope and Love we have In Jesus Christ

Do not lose heart or become discouraged as we have the Hope of Jesus Christ and eternal life to carry us through. Stay in the Bible and pray continually seeking the face of God and He will be with you. I pray these Bible verses fill your heart with hope from the truth of God’s mighty word.

Zephaniah 3:17    The LORD your God is in your midst,   a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness;   he will quiet you by his love;  he will exult over you with loud singing.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18  So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,  as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

2 Timothy 1:7  for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Job 13:15  Though he slay me, I will hope in him;   yet I will argue my ways to his face.

Romans 5:5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Christian Quote About Strength

“Those who serve God must serve Him in His own way, and in His strength, or He will never accept their service. That which man doth, unaided by divine strength, God can never own. The mere fruits of the earth He casteth away; He will only reap that corn, the seed of which was sown from heaven, watered by grace, and ripened by the sun of divine love. God will empty out all that thou hast before He will put His own into thee; He will first clean out thy granaries before He will fill them with the finest of the wheat. The river of God is full of water; but not one drop of it flows from earthly springs. God will have no strength used in His battles but the strength which He Himself imparts. Are you mourning over your own weakness? Take courage, for there must be a consciousness of weakness before the Lord will give thee victory. Your emptiness is but the preparation for your being filled, and your casting down is but the making ready for your lifting up.” – Charles Spurgeon

D.L. Moody once said that “If you partner with God, Make your plans big!” I encourage you today to make God your partner. Whatever your burden is that caused you to search for strength, give it up to him now. Do not let another minute go by without completely surrendering your burdens to Him. God wants to be your strength. Surrender to Him in your weakness and let Him show Himself strong. Remember if God brings you to it, He will bring you through it!

Dear Eric,
I know at times it may seem like if you have one more thing put on your shoulder you will burst. I went through depression for several years and tried handling it by suicide. I did not die because God saved me. I still struggle this day with some of the similar problems I did then. But now I am a devoted christian and study Gosd word and do not trun to my old ways to settle my distress. God is working in your life every day and sometimes yes you wont realize it. But if it wasnt for God we would not be here at all. God lets us go thorugh things that bring us down to make us stronger in the end. “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” 1 Cor. 10:13. I will be in prayer for you and I do believe no matter what you go through as a christian you will find streanth in God to bear it. Good luck and God bless.

I’ve been struggling in my Christian walk for a little while now. These verses jve giving me comfort. God has put a desire in my heart since I was 15 to become a navy seal. I know they have gotten a lot of publicity since the death of bin laden but that’s not the reason I want to become one of them. I hVe taken the asvab a few times and haven’t been able to pass it yet. I have one more shot to pass or I can never join the navy branch. I started fasting today and started seriously praying and focusing on his word. I have been reading the verses on ur website and everytime I would have doubt or be thinking of a verse it would be the next verse read. Lol it’s confirmation again ad again. I know god only wants the best for his children and I deffingely plan continuing to fast and read more of his word over this week. I just would like to thank u for pitting these verses up they have reminded me that God is with me through thick and thin and to trust him whole heartedly. I started this afternoon sad and discouraged. But now I feel the holy spirit is right by my side and my heart is full of joy and my skin is full of goose bumps lol.

I am now entering my junior year at Marbury High School. The past summer I spent away from someone who was very important to me. This person was given to me by God as a test I do believe and I failed and took advadntage of this person. I took my eye off of God and laid it upon this person. He became my God and the real God who blessed me with this person was no longer in the picture. I let me become addicted to this guy by always and needed to talk to him daily and always be with him. We were together for almost 2 years and at first everything went good but then obsession came in. We both were living unhelathy. We were devoted christians but then we let eachother become more important to us. I was given so many chances with this guy to get right and each time I turnde my back even more on the One who truly loves me. I knew what I was doing but seemed to not really care. We became incloved too invloved and we made many mistakes and at church we acted like sonmeone we were not. We were headed down a very bad path. We did really care and love eachother but we let temptaion and wordly lust come in between us and God. Then at the beginning of this summer his mother stepped in and took us away from eachother. As the summer went by I became a strong christian girl. I started praying more and repenting my sins. I got back on tract with God and regained some friends I had lost. I felt really good. But then this guy game over to talk to me and he did the same this summer. He prayed for the answer and God gave it to him. We decided to be apart for now because it does feel like the best thing to do. We both believe that we were meant to be together for the time we did as a phase to get us stronger in the Lord. And we gave it all to God and gave up eachopther to live how God wants us too. This was not easy at all. But doing what is best and doing what we should to get right with God isnt always easy. Being a christian isnt always easy but I do believe with all my heart something good will come from this. And I do trust in God and I will continue to make scarifices in order to stay full in God. And my ex and I both agreed if we are meant to be give it some time and God will put us in eachothers life again in his own timing. But for now I will live day by day and face whatever trial and test comes my way with God on my side and a lot of streanth. I am God’s child so I will not stumble. Thank you for reading this hope you have a blessed day.

I’m not real sure what to say. I grew up with Christian parents, but haven’t really got what they have. I believe in the Lord and I pray to him. I’m thankful for each day given to me. I know the Lord has been thru ALOT with me. I have 2 wonderful children. My daughter is 21, lives with her boyfriend and they have a BEAUTIFUL daughter. I’m a proud Pap and proud of her. My son is 16 and has been plagued with constant let downs by people who are supposed to Love him the most, including me. His Mom left me in 03 but moved out on his 9th birthday. He continued to live with me but I ended up in a bad relationship for 3 and a half years and I was a very big disappointment to him during that time. Over this past year he has made mistakes and very bad choices with smoking pot that has now put him in the juvenile court system. I don’t want to lose him but it is most likely his next step if he don’t follow the rules. I’m at wits end and feel like I’m failing him. I pray for him to make better choices. I ask for your prayers as well. I Love my son and can use all the prayers and strength I/we can get. Thank you all and may our AWESOME God above bless you all.

I am needing strength from the Lord today in so many ways. Suffice it to say, it has been a rough few years, but somehow God has used it all for his glory. My battle is not yet won, but I have learned (the very hard way) to hand over the fear, have faith, and he will provide the strength – and even joy in the midst of trials – that I need. I am a cancer survivor with exploratory in two days to investigate some unknown growths. My prayer, more importantly, however – is for my teenage son who is very lost right now and turning away from his faith. Lord give me strength to be who I need to be for him.

I need strength. I find myself weak, desperate, frustrated, and unable to cope with my problems. I am a senior in high school and am trying to get admitted in to college next fall. Where my focus should be, it isn’t. I deal with my mother’s unemployment, my father’s imprisonment, my family’s quarrels, my own school work and stress. I find myself feeling lonely and helpless. I can’t bare to be around others that are happy, even as they are faultless. I pray daily but I loose strength everyday. My anxiety doesn’t let me sleep, I feel weak. I don’t know how to help myself, but I ask God for guidance. Please pray for me and my family.

Hello Maricaeads. I am thrilled that you want to become a Christian. It is not about what you do but about what you believe. I would suggest reading some of the Bible if you have not already done so like the gospel of John or Roman, or Ephesians. Anyway, a person becomes a Christian when the believe in Jesus Christ; that He was born of a virgin, He lived a perfect life without sin, He died for you and me to atone for our sins so that God would see that Jesus paid the penalty for our sins that we could never pay. And believe that He was crucified in His death for us and died, and was then resurrected to life since He lived a perfect life death could not hold Him. He is now sitting at the right hand of the Father.

If you read Acts chapter 16 this is what the jailer wanted to do. The jailer asks the question that you are asking here in and the answer to his question is found in Acts 16:30-31:

“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”

Acts 4:12 “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Romans 10:9 -13 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Let me say that the word “believe” means to fully trust in, to completely rely upon, to absolutely lean on, and place all a persons faith in. If you believe this then you are now a Christian. I suggest that you find a Bible believing church and one that preaches about Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Please let us know if you need to know more.

God bless you and if you have believed these things, then you are now a Christian. Congratulations if you have done so.

I’m going through tough times right now, and at times I question life. I feel like I put my all, 100% into my relationship with the mother of my child, yet I feel like I’m having a child, WITH a child. I am 18 and she is 17 and we both went into this with high hopes and now she is saying how she doesn’t want a relationship or to have the baby. she recently moved down to the lower 48′s to live with her family down there to be supported right, through the pregnancy and our plan was for me to come down a month or 2 after her and we would work our way up from there, although she tells me how she tries so hard to make me seem good to her family, when i can naturally do that on my own. I did what her grandmother asked me to which is get a job and save up money until i come down, in fact I start my first day in a few hours. but yet, she doesn’t see the effort I put in to being a great father and trying to get down there to reunite with her as soon as possible, and its to the point where I almost wanna give up, yet it’s not that easy because we are bringing another life in this world. I am torn and I need God close to my heart right now.. please pray for me and give me any word of advice you’ve got..

Thank you, God Bless

J.P., I am so sorry you are going thru so very much. Wow. This sounds extremely difficult for you. You can bank on our prayers my friend, for sure. Sometimes I have heard people say that “Well, the least I can do is pray for you” but the fact is that this is the very MOST we can do. Prayer of the saints and your prayers too are the most powerful active, changing agent that we have before an Almighty God and you can know for sure that He cares what you are going thru. I am going to my face, hands, and knees for you J.P. Please keep praying for your wife, your child, and your grandmother too. God can and often does change a persons heart. I am reminded of this powerful promise of God in Proverbs 21:1 “The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the LORD; he turns it wherever he pleases.”

Did you read that!? God can change the king’s heart so He can change ANYONE’s heart. Believe it. Claim it. Pray it. God just loves it when we pray back His promises back to Him. God is glorified when this happens. We are praying too J.P. Keep praying my friend and may God richly bless you and keep on working, trying to be a good father and I do believe your Heavenly Father will help you.

JP,

there is always sunshine after every storm,……Believe me, God does not give us what we cannot take or what we cannot bear……He knows that through your circumstances, you have a choice to give up and be a quitter most of the time, or tell your problem, bring it on……Our problems will allow us to draw our strength from God….our strength is from God, not from our work, our position, our family but from God…….your efforts are good, your intentions are good, but a question you have to ask yourself, where are you drawing your strength from, is it from your own self, thinking that you can do it by yourself,….or do you want to draw your strength from God…if your strength is from God, then you will have nothing to worry about….God does not promise us that there is not going to be any problems if we believe in Him…what He does promise is that He is going to be with you every step of the way……the devil will try and play with your mind, using your circumstances and say that it is too hard to bear…..but God is always there to guide you and help you go thru your circumstance…..Just yesterday, I shared with my 2 student cousins that verse from
- Ephesians 6:10 – Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

Try reading also the verse from – Psalm 18:2 – The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

We shud give thanks to our Lord in good times and in challenging times too…..in everything, continue to give thanks

Never lose faith and keep praying …..and wait patiently for God’s time…..

Hi. Just want to say thank u for the awesome scriptures on strength. I really needed some upliftment as I am going thru some really trying times. I have had major dissapointments over the past year and a half and am currently going thru a painful patch with my husband. I think the events of the past 1and a half years are getting to us and causing strain on our marriage. I ask you to please keep me/us in ur prayers and I thank our FATHER for HIS awesum word but sometimes I feel like just throwing in the towel… I believe that by his stripes I am healed and no weapon formed against us shall prosper. I pray and ask u to stand in agreement with me that satan will not get his filthy hands on my marriage. Satan u are under my feet. Thank u Jesus…. Amen

I’ve been dealing with some problems lately, it just seems like theres so much going on. I just got out of high school recently and i’ve never felt so much anxiety and depression, my parents never are happy they always argue about something. My mom is always crying, they talk very bad each other …. I’m just so confused about life I’m on a new ADD medication that makes me very moody, i dont know what to do with my life now whats the next step?, I also struggle with some addictions, I feel very alone often, like i have no one to talk too. I get so stressed that my hair starts to come out and i gain weight like crazy from eating to much when i feel down. A friend and I have been going to church together and talking about God a lot. We both want to make things better by having a better relationship with God. I feel like im always worried or sad about something. I pray to God for some strengh so i can be stronger.

Hello Brandi, I am so very sorry for all you are going through. It sounds so very difficult my friend. Thank you for visiting us so that we may pray for you to be strengthened and comforted. God is the God of all comfort and He is especially attentive to those who are widows and orphans. It sounds like you are a spiritual widow and with a baby coming soon. Please know that we care, we will pray for you and know that God is aware of your affliction my friend. The number one thing Jesus spoke about was not love, mercy, grace, heaven, or hell…but it was for us to not be afraid or to be worried, or to fear not, and this shows our utter dependence upon God. We will pray for you, your baby, and for God to open a door for you to find a job. We care and are with you, but God is with you even more and in a more perfect way.

Heb 13:5b, “God has said, “Never will I leave you;never will I forsake you.”

Brandi, that is so good that we can help hold each other up in prayer. That is what the Body of Christ is all about. We DO care for you as Jesus cares for you even more. We are commanded to pray for one another but I consider it a privilege to do so for many pray for me and please keep in touch and let us know how things are going, like with your job and your pregnancy and so on. Praying for that baby too. If you would like to have non-public or private prayer requests or to contact us in all confidentiality, we do not share prayer requests or updates but we do, here at the site, pray for you and we are praying God blesses you with a job soon, and keeps you both safely in His arms. That is our prayer for you.

I would like to talk about mourning. This is a natural level for Christians. Paul say’s “rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn”. Your christian abilities are hightened because you are not focusing on the trivial things of life. My mum recenty died so i think I can talk about these things. Mourning is a very important part of the christian experiance, as is rejoicing, the two must complement each other.

Dear Josh,

This article was wonderful. I was brought up Catholic and now in College I find I have been questioning everything. Sometimes I think I am really lost and others I feel God. It is extremely difficult time, but I know in the end this will make me stronger in my faith even if I question it right now. Tonight I was thinking about my grandma who has breast cancer, she has had cancer three times previous (all different kinds) and now she is being challenged again. I’m away at school and don’t get to go home much, but I was writing out a card and I wanted to look to God to give her words of comfort. In doing this I found you website and it seems in trying to give her strength I may have found some of my own. Thank you so much!

Sorry for the errors, it is late and I’ve been fighting the flu and a sinus infection this whole week. As an English major I know my post was not up to par.

Christina,

No need to apologize for any errors. I make them all the time! I was excited to read your comment and for you to share what you are going through. It is so good to share with others as it makes us all feel more connected as it seems many of us are feeling the same way. Keep leaning on God for your strength. I will pray for your grandma!
