Words of Jesus: 15 Amazing Bible Quotes

by David Peach · Print Print · Email Email

The first four books of the New Testament are full of quotes from Jesus. Many of these quotes stand on their own, but one should not forget to read them in context to get a full understanding of what the Lord was saying.

Most Often Quoted

One of the greatest, and most often quoted, verses in the Bible is actually a quote from Jesus.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Jesus Said that He Is

The Water of Life

John 4:13, 14 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

The Good Shepherd

John 10:10, 11 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

Eternal Life for His Sheep

John 10:27-30 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one.

The Way, The Truth and The Life

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Jesus Invites All to Follow Him

Seek the Kingdom of God First

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Ask, Seek, Find

Matthew 7:7,8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Jesus and the Children

Matthew 19:14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

Gain the Whole World

Mark 8:34-37 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

He Calls Sinners

Luke 5:31, 32 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

On What His Followers Should Do

Be a Light in the World

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Love Your Enemies

Matthew 5:43-44 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Do Unto Others

Matthew 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

The Greatest Commandment: Love God and Your Neighbour

Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Be a Servant to Others

Mark 10:45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

The Bible claim God created earth 6000 years ago but history records human life existed on earth few hundred thousand years ago. How does the evidence of life on earth millions of years ago equate with the Bible claim that God created life on earth recently by comparison? Starting with a deep commitment to the inerrancy of God’s Word, has calculated a span of just a few thousand years, most likely close to 6000 years, since creation. The age of the earth can be estimated by taking the first five days of creation (from earth’s creation to Adam), then following the genealogies from Adam to Abraham in Genesis 5 and 11, then adding in the time from Abraham to today. Adam was created on day 6, so there were five days before him. If we add up the dates from Adam to Abraham, we get about 2,000 years, using the Masoretic Hebrew text of Genesis 5 and 11.3 Whether Christian or secular, most scholars would agree that Abraham lived about 2,000 B.C. (4,000 years ago). Historians date Abraham’s biblical story around 2000 B.C., based on clues in Genesis Chapters 11 through 25. So a simple calculation is: 5 days + 2000 years + 4000 years = 6000 years.

Can suicide “victims” gain the Kingdom?

Hello Mr. Welling. Romans 8:38-39 should answer that sir.

rudy January 20, 2021 at 9:36 pm

excellent scripture references

CODY November 26, 2020 at 12:46 pm

Mr. Mui, the more you read the Bible the more it will make sense. You are referring to the first Earth age which took place prior the Bible. In Job 40, the it infallibly describes a real historical creature, called‘Behemoth’. If you draw it out you will see it is a dianasor. We are currently in the 2nd Earth Age and will end with the 3rd Earth Age. When studying the Bible it is suggested that you use a Strong’s Concordance. The Concordance will help decipher certain words and point you to there original meanings. You will soon find the story of Eve is not about an ‘apple’. Good Luck to you, and peace be with you <

priti June 27, 2013 at 2:47 am

whatever comes our way accept it as god’s will, he knows everything , he is doing the rightest thing for us, so accpt it gracefully, he will only give the strength to face as we r his own creations , we all bear tht power inside us

Suzzie Magic November 13, 2017 at 5:30 pm

The law of attraction is real too. Many things are. Look it up,! I’m just saying that you should all follow your excitement each moment to the best of your ability with no expectations for what the outcome might be. Do what you feel is right in your heart. Be authentic and always love yourself. You are all perfect. Not a sheep. This life is yours. Don’t waste it. Learn to love, open your mind and grow.
Love and peace to you all 🙂

Jack Wellman November 14, 2017 at 8:54 am

Hello Suzzie. In replying to M.R. Kumar, let me say that none of us are perfect…God alone is perfect. We are not good, none are, not even one (Rom 3:10-12) and yes, we are sheep…Jesus’ very own sheep. If we decide to “follow our excitement” and “do what we feel is right in our heart,” we can deceive ourselves. Trust in God. Obey God. And we will grow. Open minds can be open to spiritual attack.

Sue Lyn July 30, 2013 at 11:48 am

One of the finest books written on the life of Christ is “The Desire of Ages” written by Ellen G. White. Also “Steps To Christ” “Christ’s Object Lessons” (about the parables in the Bible) and a link for you http://text.egwwritings.org/publication.php?pubtype=Book&bookCode=CC&lang=en&pagenumber=56

William April 25, 2018 at 9:36 am

Among the best books about the Saviour is ‘Jesus the Christ’ by James E Talmage. It describes His premortal life as Jehovah, then as the God of Israel, His birth and mission, death and resurrection and continuing existence as the Son God of Heavenly Father.

Jack Wellman April 25, 2018 at 9:58 am

William, I would not recommend this book because it portrays a different Jesus than the biblical one. It is false in its premise and he takes texts out of context to create a false pretext and besides, this is from a cult, the church of Jesus Christ latter day saints, so stay far away from this book and I recommend others do the same. They have the wrong Jesus and without the right Jesus, you have the wrong Savior. Jesus was not created but has always existed.

felicia August 22, 2013 at 4:14 pm

Please visit repentandpreparetheway.org and any of the videos and the sermons. you will surely have the urge to know more about the Bible and Jesus, and what this name Jesus can do for you.

Jesus thank you for reveiling yourself to me,i love you lord.

paul August 9, 2013 at 5:53 am

Oh Jesus your truths are life, the words you said are life giving, Thank-you. You even gave us the Holy Sprit to obey
them and to become secure with them. How awesome is your
wisdom and grace, we kneel at your feet and stay till we hear
you say go and love one another, let your life be a living sac-erfice being one with me. Oh my JESUS to be mind full of
you is beyond all pleasure.

felicia August 22, 2013 at 4:17 pm

Indeed to be mindful of JESUS is truly beyond pleasure. God bless you.

naomi August 14, 2013 at 8:36 am

Please pray for me to be serious with the things of God,that my husband will get the job he has applied for in jesus name. Amen.

Jack Wellman August 14, 2013 at 11:02 am

If you want to get serious with God then talk to your pastor, see what he says. Also fast and pray and fall on your face, hands, and knees and plead with God for His intervention and praying in the Strong Name of Jesus Christ.

felicia August 22, 2013 at 4:27 pm

It is only through repentance and holiness shall we be serious with God. Whatever that you are facing, you must make it your goal to repent of anything that you know does not conform to the Word of God, and pray from your heart for God’s help for you to be strong in your faith. It takes only prayer and the Word of God that breakthrough comes. But know that people are praying with you as you set your heart to do your part. God bless you

Suganya August 16, 2013 at 1:02 am

plz pray for me my life is full of worries. I’m crying every day in front of lord you guys plz pray for me.

SHONICE August 20, 2013 at 2:18 am

dont worry it shows a lack of faith in God.

the bible says the following:

Matthew 6:27-29
Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.

The energy that we spend worrying can be put to much better use in prayer. Here’s a little formula to remember: Worry replaced by Prayer equals Trust.
Matthew 6:30
And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?

Matthew 6:25
That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life-whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? (NLT)
Matthew 6:31-33
So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need… you are blessed and highly favored 🙂

bill April 3, 2014 at 9:15 pm

i use 2 worry but god says do not worry trust god completely give it to god .If you worry you are thinking you have complete control over the matter and nobody does. You are to some extent making a god of yourself when you worry. If you give it completely to god you are trusting him for whatever the outcome is instead of trusting yourself
there by giving you gods complete peace about it.

warren smith June 20, 2015 at 3:53 pm

very well put bill

Christianholyland September 15, 2014 at 9:03 am

we should stop worry so much (easy to say but so hard to practice indeed) and put our faith and trust in god. there is a reason for every single thing that happens. good as bad.

Tim flemke October 25, 2014 at 12:53 am

I’m 16 right now and all of my life I have believed in God, but I’ve never been a very religious person. I’m at the age where I am beginning to question things and without a strong base I began questioning my faith and I was in limbo for days and felt sick and looking online and in books for scientific proof of the almighty. I didnt find anything conclusive until I began reading jesus’s words and I felt a presence in them as if they were living breathing things. Their messages bring tears to my eyes and a tingle in my spine. His words are more beautiful than any sunset the earth has ever known.

I,am a christian mother of two children. I feel lost for many reasons. I was going to church and something happened the pastor had an affair with someone. and he left the church. So then we the left our church searching for a new one. Also I have had a lot of angered feelings towards my biological father. I know I am suppose honor him and love him. My father remarried and treats me cold and distant as if I don’t exist almost as if I don’t matter anymore. No matter how old I am i still feel for my father wishing he could love me back or my brother he dis ownes because he down syndrome. should I pray and tell god my hurt and my pain. I have lost my faith because of life’s circumstances.

Jack Wellman August 31, 2015 at 2:02 am

Yes, tell God what you are feeling. Don’t let one pastor of disaster ruin your relationship with Christ. Every one of in this life will suffer. I can’t tell you how much I am right now suffering but God will always be near the broken hearted and contrite (or crushed) in spirit. I will pray for you my sister in Christ. I am so very sorry.

Betty November 6, 2016 at 12:13 am

Never lose hope. God your father is always with you. You are never alone. You have to reach that understanding through prayer that YOU do not need your earthly family to approve or disapprove of you. If they choose not to be a part of your life. Dust your feet off. Pray Pray Pray. You are a child of Almighty God. So stand tall be humble but don’t subject yourself to worldly judgments. Be happy for he’s coming soon for all his children. Trust in his word. Not mine nor anyone else. Stay in the Bible everyday, Study. He tells us all we need to know. I will be praying for you. God is on his throne and totally in control and his timing may not be yours but its perfect. God Bless.

lissette August 31, 2015 at 1:58 am

In may 2001 this my last trip after graduation. We went to Georgia and stayed in bunkers. I went to a little church and prayed. later that afternoon. A couple people said that they wanted to go to a free concert and food. We went and we then started putting flyers on the doors. We then walked down in the town and we saw a man a homeless man. he told him if he wanted to go the concert and eat with us. he declined our offer. He then said do you see that man across the street walking he is an empty man with no soul. the walking dead as he says.I didn’t know what he meant until he disappered we looked everywhere. he think we met an angel. he walked back and told others what we saw and heard.

Jorge Valencia September 22, 2015 at 1:06 pm

My wife has been living with BiPolar/Schizophrenia for the last 12 years, we have lost everything and had our kids living hundreds of miles away for a while, she is not eligible for disability benefits and I make too much (ha) to be eligible for any welfare, we sometimes eat leftovers for over 3 days just to make it, especially since we have 3 of our 4 kids living with us, we hurt and felt depressed most of the time for a long while, but once we all realized that Gods will be done and it is not our place to complain about his path for us, we learned to live within our love of Christ, I thank you Lord of Lords for giving me all I have, I need nothing and only require what you place before me, forgive me for questioning and being blind to the love you placed upon all of us and I do my best to make sure my children understand that the dirty sneakers they wore the first day of school is not to be looked down on, we should rejoice that there IS a pair of shoes on our feet, no matter how old or dirty, the car that I drive and breaks down all the time has never let us down when needed in an emergency and though my home is nothing to brag about, I have my wife and children with me and the house is filled with love consistently, I may be a failure to many eyes but the only eyes I care about are yours my God, thank you a million times for my life and may I stand as you want me to always…. AMEN

Allen April 15, 2018 at 2:02 am

God bless you and your family. I pray for you. Things will get better, you are right it does not matter how we dress or what’s on our feet.. it’s what we have in our heart’s
May God show you mercy and blessings as I write this to you in Jesus name Amen

Pkt March 4, 2021 at 6:57 pm

Is Jesus God’s only begotten son or is God Our Father, it can’t be both.

Jack Wellman March 4, 2021 at 7:10 pm

Hello Pkt. Jesus is God’s only begotten Son, yet fully divine and fully God and God is our Father, so it is not one or the other, but both. Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth … before Abraham was born, I am!” This is a reference back to Exodus 3:14 when God revealed Himself as the “I AM.” The Jews who heard this statement responded by taking up stones to kill Him for blasphemy, as the Mosaic Law commanded (Leviticus 24:16). Jesus is the Word and God and was both with God (the Father & the Spirit) and nothing was created that He did not create, so He must have always existed. Is that what you mean? Do you not believe in Jesus as God, the Son of God and the Father, as Father God, and the Spirit, as the Holy Spirit? You should for these are taught in Scripture (i.e. Matt 28:18-20). Maybe a good study Bible can help you Pkt.

Jack Wellman January 21, 2021 at 9:15 am

Thank you Rudy.
