The Promises of God: 10 Powerful Bible Verses

by Josh Wiley · Print Print · Email Email

The Bible is the word of God and is powerful and life changing. The promises of God start with 2 Timothy 3:16 when God tells us that all Scriptures in the Bible are inspired by God. With this promise of God in hand we can then be assured that what we learn in the Bible comes from Him!

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

Are you standing on the promises of God today? Is God your all in all?

my mind tends to wander ( did I feed the dog ? do I need to do this or that !) so to prevent that , I read the verses one at a time out loud.. then go back & read the 1st & 2nd, then the 3rd , then back to the 1st.. I find in doing it this way it really gets into my heart & I’m not just reading the words.

Please understand, these are not God’s promises, these are God’s Word. Somewhat like the differences in the usages of the verbs is and shall, God’s word shall be done.

Thank you Mr. Bailey. If these are not promises, then why does Peter write it is “by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire” (2 Pet 1:4) instead of God has granted to us his precious and very great “words”, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire? There are dozens of New and Old Testament Bible verses with the word “promises” in them like:

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:13
But in keeping with God’s promise, we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

What do you make of these “promises” then sir?

I counted 163 “promises” in all of the Bible.
