The Promises of God: 10 Powerful Bible Verses

by Josh Wiley on February 26, 2011 · Print Print · Email Email

The Bible is the word of God and is powerful and life changing. The promises of God start with 2 Timothy 3:16 when God tells us that all Scriptures in the Bible are inspired by God. With this promise of God in hand we can then be assured that what we learn in the Bible comes from Him!

Check out these lyrics from this song or click at the video on the right to see Alan Jackson sing this.

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

Are you standing on the promises of God today? Is God your all in all?

No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I was in a coma for 3 days over 1 year ago. I have daily struggles with headache, balance problems and no motivation. I have lost a lot of cognitive skills i.e. cooking and gardening as I have no energy for these. I have a lovely 17 year old daughter Iona who still needs me to be a mum to her and help her through life. I am trying to trust God’s promises but finding it very hard. Can anyone give me some encouragement as life is very hard. Thank you.

Hello Mrs. Dickson, please allow me to help encourage you by giving you some great Scriptures:Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Isaiah 41:10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

Lorraine, Jesus Himself loved and cared for His own Mother, Mary so much that His last act on the cross was to ensure her earthly well-being. Our Lord knew the strength and value of a Mother’s Love, and that it is one of the most precious treasures we can hold in our hearts. It is for this reason I thought to remind you that the Holy Mary is a Saint in Heaven also, and as a Mother, She will know your pain and needs, and you will find it a great Blessing to know that She is enfolding you and your daughter in her loving arms. The Almighty God chose Her to love and cherish His own Son, our Lord Jesus Christ! What a task She had set before Her! and She did not fail, and She will not fail you, Lorraine, nor your daughter. Kind regards.

The word states that God’s word will not come back void. If God said it his promises are true and it will do just what it is sent out to do.For there is no failure in God. As we trust God ask him to help your unbelief. May God bless you

Dear sister Lorraine,
By his stripes we are healed” in the Bible: Isaiah 53:4-5. Make the word of God, the standard for your life. There is no sickness that our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ cannot heal. I would advise you to fast and pray every Wednesday and Friday, while reading Psalm 51, verse 7 – 19. Each time you kneel down, read the said Psalm and continue praying thereafter. Avoid drinking nor eating anything during your fasting. Of paramount importance, say”Lord Jesus, I am a sinner, come into my heart, save my soul today, my healer, my saviour, my provider. I know that you died on the cross for me, and our Lord God resurrected you from the dead. Lord, if my sickness, challenges and all, is to complete your will, do not take it away, in Jesus Christ’s name, Amen!. This kind of fasting should be a permanent routine. Sin no more. May the Lord hear your prayers and be healed. Read Isaiah 58, it will teach you what to do while fasting. For your prayers to be heard by our Lord, make sure you have forgiven all who have transgressed against you, remain blessed!.

PUSH my sister: Pray Until Something Happens
our experiences are designed by God to strengthen our spiritual muscles so we can fight in the whole armour of God. God does not allow us to go through valleys because He gets pleasure from our suffering. All our experiences are designed by Him to make us stronger- Rise up in faith

Please read Luke 18″1-8 Jesus told the story/parable of the widow who kept going to the unjust judge to deliver her from her adversary. He commented that this analogy was used to encourage us to keep coming to God with our request in prayer and supplications
PUSH my sister PUSH
My prayers are with you and family

Before, when I was still a sinner. I am nearly contented with what I have. I already have everything I need and almost everything I want. By the time when I was saved, I felt complete at first but as time goes on, I started to fail at many things and thougt I was a failure. But I am still faithful to Him, but challenges keep on testing my faith, I am presently suffering from different diseases, problems, and failures. I keep on praying but still not seeing light in my life. But despite all of these I am still faithful. I pray for you my brothers and sisters to pray for me that I will overcome this tragedies and my suffering will not be in vain. I pray for strength and courage to continue my service in God.

It’s okay to express real human feelings/emotions. Expressing your pain to Jesus is authentic. I’ve been very ill for 6 years now. Many times I thought I’d never make it. Desperate moments. Despair moments. Anger moments. Fear moments. Just the other day I cried: Lord, if you love me, why don’t you do something? Immediately in my heart, I heard: “I already did. I’m sharing my Passion with you.” What shame! But then, I felt immensely blessed and began to praise and thank Him for this gift of suffering alongside Him. Prior to this, I felt as if I were being punished, tortured. Now, I just trust Him and know that He is carrying me to Calvary that I may share in His glory. It can’t get any better than that. Seek The Holy Face of thy Christ and He will comfort you in your pain and tribulation. God Bless.

Thanks for the article. Just one concern about one of the verses you quoted – Jeremiah 29:11 – might need explanation. This verse is probably the most misunderstood verses in the Bible concerning the promises of God. It is about the assurance that God gave to the exile for a specific reason. It is not as simple as giving someone a rosy promise that many have misused.

Thank you for your comment. I agree about the context of this verse and I understand that this was not written to Christians but to Israel who were being held captive by Babylon and made slave but weren’t all believers at one time held captive by their sins because Jesus said “everyone who sins is a slave to sin” (John 8:34). So even though this message was to Israel, God has plans for us too, even though we cannot see what they include in the future but we can trust in God that they are for our benefit (welfare) and not meant to do us harm (evil) and His plan is a great hope for us and when our hope is in Him, it is as good as done!

Hello Aiban. May I suggest you talk to your pastor right away. I know that there is real power in the Word of God, the Bible. How often have you been reading the Bible and praying? These two things, as well as talking to your pastor in counseling, are the greatest weapons in overcoming sin above all things. If you really wish to go back in time and want God back in your life, stay in the Bible at least two times a day. Request prayer from your church for the more you have praying for you the better, otherwise if you do not do any of these, you are going to forever be struggling.

Hi Aiban! :) I pray for you!!! :) Good words from God for us below…
John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

So keep looking to Him! :)

Isaiah 26:3
“You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You”

My wife of only 8 months, walked out in November 2013. She is a drug addict, bipolar represent, and moved right into the bed of her supplier. I’ve had to file divorce papers, but do not want this. I want her healed, our marriage restored, and a ministry for us. I pray the promises of the bible, agree with others, but it seems all hope is lost. I do believe The Lord can save a dead marriage, but I’m simply not getting anything right now in our relationship. I miss her so much. The Lord has blessed me financially, gotten out of debt, and able to give more. I cherish and praise Him for blessings, but so much want my wife back.

Reply

Jack Wellman July 26, 2014 at 8:16 pm

Wayne, I am so very sorry my friend. I can’t imagine how hard this must be but as I spoke to a dear friend yesterday who is going thru a severe trial in his marriage, we sometimes have to let God’s silence be allowed to be His room to work in a spouse’s life. I told him that we must allow room for the Holy Sprit to convict her and to let her go is to trust in God. By not contacting her and staying in contact with God is showing God that you trust Him to do what we cannot and what only He can do. Stay in the fight for this marriage my brother and so do on your knees, and perhaps Psalm 37 may give you some comfort.

Listen to the words used in reference to attaining the desires of our hearts, which are all found in Psalm 37. In God we are; to trust, to wait, to rest, to delight, to commit, to know, and to have patience. In these we receive; our delights, His peace, His safety, His stability, His provisions, His guidance, His protection, His deliverance, firm footing, a secure future, your refuge, no worry, no poverty, and He will give you the desires of your heart. This doesn’t mean a guarantee that all things will work out as we wish but we know that, ultimately, all things will work out for those who love God for our best (Rom 8:28).

Psalm 37 speaks about God granting the desires of our heart if we delight in Him but again, this is no guarantee that your marriage will be restored.

How do you delight in the Lord so that you may receive the desires of your heart (v. 4)? What is delight? Here is the definition and when you read it, just imagine that God is the focus and subject of your delight in. Delight: A great satisfaction and joy; something (or someone) that gives great pleasure; to satisfy greatly; to please. That’s the key to finding the desires of your heart. Take great pleasure in God’s goodness. Take joy in your salvation. Let Him satisfy your every need. Let Him please you in all that you do. Desires take time. This is where the words of Psalm 37 are clear; wait, rest, trust, and know. If you delight in the Lord, He will give you the desires of your heart. It is not a quid pro quo God, but a God Who Himself delights in giving us our desires; the desires of our hearts. Just delight in Him.

Sometimes, not always, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

I want to ask for prayers. I started loosing my hair a few months ago due to stress and lack of sleep. I’m on a healthy schedule now but my hair seems to fall out in clumps everyday and it’s getting harder to hide the big bald spots on my head. I know it’s selfish of me to care about hair. As a young woman it’s hard to deal with becoming bald so suddenly. GOD is showing me that I need to take care of myself a lot more especially because I have little ones. I trust our LORD every minute of my life. And I know he will heal me. Please pray for me

Hi. My fiance, a pastor left me days ago saying that he had consulted some Men of God on our relationship and they said that our relationship was a time bomb. He even said that he had received prophecies on the same. I was left confused because we have been together five years and would have married next year By God’s grace. Also, as a child, i had ‘visions of our being together as well as confirmations later on in life. I begged him to stay but he refused. I know God doesn’t contradict Himself. What should i do?

Heath August 7, 2014 at 9:57 pm

Hi carol, first of all I want to say that my heart goes out to you in the trial you are faced with.
I have been on both sides of the coin.
First of all, you are right, For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭14‬:‭33‬ KJV)
However, sometimes one can have a completely different impression of what God wants. My best advise is to not push, the “Gods will” thing, but to simply be there for him, if you love him, tell him. Be supportive of his breathing space, he’s probably feeling very closed in right now and his friend is probably sensing that. If it is Gods will he will bring you together in his time. When God puts something in someone’s heart they can’t get it out, believe me I know:)
Pray, pray, pray, this is your chance to grow close to Jesus, after all, he is our bridegroom:)

Jack Wellman August 8, 2014 at 10:28 am

Hello Carol. Let me first say that you are much better off not marrying this man. I see many problems with this man. These “men of God” are false prophets. For one thing, the gift of prophecy in the New Testament or church age today is that prophecy means “truth or “forth telling” not predicting the future. Him saying that he received prophecies ignores the Biblical truth that we already have all revelation from God we will ever need and that is found in the Bible. God has no record of using visions except for apostles and so your vision cannot be used for what is truthfully supposed to happen. We must rely on what the Bible says. Would you want to end up marrying this unstable man and then having him divorce you because he received more “prophecies?” Then, you wouldn’t have a chance to get married again. God blessed you here I believe in keeping you from a terrible divorce and unstable marriage. I would find another church too because it sounds like he is confused on what prophecies are and how God uses them in the church….as they are a gift of teaching and not predicting the future.

Thanks Jay. Good stuff. John 6:28-29 is one of my many, many memory verses in the Bible and John’s gospel is my favorite one!
