7 Bible Promises That Have Impacted My Life

by David Peach · Print Print · Email Email

There are so many wonderful promises in the Bible. Here are 7 Bible promises that impacted my life when I was a teenager seeking God’s will. As many of you know the teenage years can be difficult years emotionally and spiritually. I sought to serve the Lord with my life, but I didn’t always understand God’s guidance and the way He was leading. I trusted in these promises to help me when I didn’t always know what the next step would be.

Psalm 37:4, 5

“Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”

These two verses have the wonderful Bible promise that God will guide us and show us His will. By delighting in Him—that is, making Him the focus of our desires and pleasures—He promises to give us proper desires. When we desire what He desires for our life then He can give those things to us. When we commit our lives to Him and trust Him, then we will see a completion of the yearnings He places within us.

My Favorite Bible Promises

And the greatest Bible promise of them all is the promise that if we come to Him seeking salvation, He will grant it.

Isaiah 26:3

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

Many people talk about not having peace in their lives. This promise from the book of Isaiah says that we need to fix our mind on the Lord and we can have the peace we are seeking. It does not say we will have riches or fame, but we will have peace. Riches and fame accomplish nothing without the peace that God can give. A peace that passes all understanding.

Matthew 6:31-34

“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

God knows we have physical needs in this life. His promise is that if we seek Him and His pleasures then we can be assured that He will care for us. It is easy to take our mind off the Lord and focus on the needs around us. Either our own or the needs of others. That is called worry, and as Christians we don’t need to worry. We simply need to trust.

James 1:5

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

What teenager does not lack wisdom? For me this was a wonderful promise. I sometimes felt like I was a freshwater fish swimming in salt water. Everything seemed familiar but at times I was drowning for lack of understanding. I would like to say that only happened in my teenage years. But I have come back to this promise over and over in my life trusting the God who made the promise. I can ask Him for help through uncertain situations and know that He will come through for me. I have and He does.

Romans 8:18

“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

Overwhelmed? Unsure? Feeling hopeless? There are days like that for all of us. Some people live in a cloud of uncertainty and hopelessness more often than they can see a glimmer of hope in this world. This could be because of mental struggles of physical persecution. But, as Christians, we have the certainty that all will be made right and that the glory of Heaven will make everything we experience here on earth worth each moment of struggle.

Lamentations 3:23

“This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

The book of Lamentations does not offer much hope throughout its pages and verses. However, nestled in chapter 3 are about 10 of the most hope-filled verses in the Bible. We have the promise of God’s mercies being new each day. His mercy is fresh and abundant. He is a faithful God who desires to bless those who will live according to His plan.

John 1:12, 13

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

And the greatest Bible promise of them all is the promise that if we come to Him seeking salvation, He will grant it. He wants to forgive. If He wasn’t interested in you then He would not have sent His son to die for you. Don’t believe the lie that God cannot or will not forgive you because you have done some terrible thing. Trust in the promise of a loving, holy, wonderful God who says He will grant salvation to those who will receive His gift of eternal life.
