Have you chosen your life verse from the Bible? Some Christians, especially new Christians do not even know what a “life verse” is. Simply stated, a life verse is a verse from the Bible (or a small passage) that you choose to be your most favorite verse; it is the one that you commit to memory to share with others. When you spend lots of time in Christian circles you should expect that someone may ask you about your life verse. Now, considering that there are more than 31,000 verses in the Bible, it may be no easy task to choose just one. I have great news! Here are just 20 good choices for your life verse. Perhaps this will be helpful if you have not already chosen one.

John 1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness did not comprehend it
Amen Chris, thanks for sharing!
John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. This has been one of my favorite verses, since I started my walk with God, and this is the verse I dream, hope I can honestly say with all sincerety, confidence & courage someday…Php 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Luke 2:10-11. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord
Hi Tjanus, “goon news of great joy”, yes indeed! Thanks for stopping by and sharing your verse.
When I was a small child, the first scripture I remember memorizing was John 3:16. It was the verse I had to recite in the Christmas Play. I remember memorizing it and when it came my turn to say my verse in the play, I was so excited to say my verse, I knew it so well. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Hello Dolores, Perhaps the most popular memory verse of all time! How fun that you got to share it in a play. Thanks for dropping in and please visit again soon.
Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Heb 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Welcome Mattias Wemay, That is a good couple of verses to study out as well as to have a your life verse. I love how verse 3 explains verse explains verse 1 — letting the Bible teach you the Bible. Very good, thanks for leaving your comment here.
Thank you for posting it Pamela. Oft times it is tough being a believer in Indonesia, where the Moslems are getting more and more violent and discriminating of anything Christian. Verses like these keep me strong.
Hallelujah!
1 Thess 5:16-22
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good,reject every kind of evil.
– Amen!
Nice Brandi, thanks for adding to the collection. Come back and visit again soon!
Mine is;
24 “‘“The LORD bless you
and keep you;
25 the LORD make his face shine upon you
and be gracious to you;
26 the LORD turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’
Hello Albert Osae, when I graduated high school many, many years ago we sang those verses at the commencement ceremony. I found this for you to listen to — it is not us singing but it is a similar rendition: http://youtu.be/oHBeRutj76o
Psalm 62:1-2
Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
This is my favorite verse because it helps me get through all the struggles of my last year of high school. And moving to a new school. Thank you Jesus for verses like these that can pick me up off my feet!
My life verse chose me: Ezra 7:10 For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the Lord and to practice it, and to teach His statutes and ordinances in Israel. (NASB)
My life verse, given at my confirmation, is this:
Luke 11:9-10 “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. (NASB)
Matthew 11: 28-30
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and i will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for i am meed and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
these verses always uplift me in my time of need!
LUKE ch8 v11; She said,”No man LORD.” And Jesus said unto her,”Neither do I condemn you:go,and sin no more”
Matthew 6:27 “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?”
6:34 “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
I by nature am a worrier so when I start down that path this is what I turn to. Worry is a waste of time and energy. Time & energy God wants me to spend serving Him.
WOW! So many wonderful choices for a life verse. Thank you all for sharing and be sure to drop in again at WCWTK for more great articles. Blessings to you all!
Phillipians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. (Galatians 1:10, 12 NIV)
I’m 14, but I think this explains it 🙂 there was another verse I love, I can’t remember it exactly, but it went something along the lines on “you realize, don’t you? that you are the temple of god and he himself is in you?” I love that aswell 🙂
(MKJV) John 6:37 All that the Father gives Me shall come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will in no way cast out.
I have been bought with a price for 20 yrs. this month. I am now 55 and grew up church smart. I now have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus. From the very beginning of my salvation this verse tells us Gods love is open to all who come humble and with Godly repentance. I love you Jesus.
Job 12:10 “In his hand is the life of every living creature and the breath of all mankind.”
It is a great comfort to know that he holds me in his hand and always will. This verse also tells me that God is all powerful. In times of trouble or confusion, it comes to my mind and always brings a sense of peace and calm. What better place is there to be than in His hand!
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me
Philippians 4:13
Current Situation Verse :Matt 6:33
Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all other things will be added unto you.
All about correct priorities… since mine can continue to get mixed up…
Over all Life Verse:
2 Cor 12:9 My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness
Glory be to God!
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. (Philippians 4:6 NLT)
(KJV) “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13
Isaiah 60:20 (NIV)
Your sun will never set again,
and your moon will wane no more;
the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your days of sorrow will end.
I am a recently born-again Christian and when I read this verse for the first time, I immediately burst into tears. I shut God out of my life for almost a decade and during that time I felt so much emotional pain; it was suffocating me. I started to cautiously let God back in my life with the gentle encouragement of my wonderful boyfriend. One night I was really struggling with my emotional pain and he told me to read this verse; I am being totally honest when I say it changed my life. At that moment, with tears running down my face, I asked God for forgiveness and accepted Him with my whole heart and soul. I have never felt such a powerful sense of relief and I am so in awe of the power God has.
“I stretch out my hands to You; my soul thirsts for You like a parched land.” (Psalm 143:6)
Have you ever felt like this? Have you ever felt like a parched land, where you yearn for God’s touch so bad, that just one whisper in your ear from Him will fill your soul with overwhelming joy? When you are at rock bottom and cry out to God, He will take you in His Almighty arms and carry you through your heartache. Praise His Name today!
My life verse is Jeremiah 31:3: The LORD appeared to us in the past saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving kindness.
“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” -Deut. 6:5
Proverbs 3: 5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
This is a great verse for reminding me to “Keep it Simple”. Keep my eyes on the Lord and all else will fall into place.
Matthew 4:19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”
For He Will Command His Angels Concerning You To Guard You In All Your Ways. Psalm 91:11 NIV
James 4:14-15 “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14
My husband and I used this scripture in our “courting” to express out wonder in each other and God’s goodness towards us. We still use it often and in fact holds more meaning and intimacy then simply saying “I love you”.
*our* wonder
“The LORD Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deut 31:8 (NIV)
Amen Ed!
1 Timothy 4:12
(NLT) Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all beleivers in what you say, the way you live your life, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
Acts 20:24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.
PHILIPPIANS 1:21 (KJV) For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Isaiah 41:10-12
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
11 “All who rage against you
will surely be ashamed and disgraced;
those who oppose you
will be as nothing and perish.
12 Though you search for your enemies,
you will not find them.
Those who wage war against you
will be as nothing at all.
Proverbs 14:27
The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death.
I call these verses “Theory of Life”
Phillippians 4:4-7
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your forbearing spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Amen!
Psalm 61: 2 (KJV)
From the ends of the earth I will cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than.
Ephesians 3:8
“Although I am less than the least of all the Lord’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ.”
Matthew 19:26 (NIV)
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
My “life verse” is Romans 5: 8, “But G_d demonstrates His own LOVE for toward US, in that while WE were YET SINNERS, C_rist died for US . NASB Emphasis added . How many times do WE, including myself, feel, attempt, to put restrictions, rules on potential Christ followers, such as, “you shouldn’t wear that type of clothing to church, you STILL smoke and attend church, or you watched THAT tv program ? We, as real, authentic Christ followers, should be following the example of Romans 5:8, demonstrating our love for the LOST.
Perhaps this verse could go hand-in-hand with what you have chosen?
“As for the one who is weak in faith, (I also add “different” or “young”) welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions.”
Romans 14:1
A reminder of our purpose in fellowship – growth and brotherhood, not condemnation, bickering, or anything but what is born from love. 🙂
I was reading my devotional today and I finally realized that I need a life verse. I’ve always been lazy to memorize bible verse and thought that having a mobile bible means I don’t need to memorize these verse. What I didn’t know was that when temptations strike, I would be too weak to even open my bible. And then I finally understood how important a life verse is. Now I use Isaiah 40:31 to remind me of God’s promise to give me strength to run this race. “They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not grow weary. They shall and not be faint.”
Thanks for this list! I actually got mine from here.
James 1: 2-4
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
This was a hard one for me to understand for a long time, but now that I do, it gives me perfect peace in the toughest of times by knowing that God is taking this time to teach me to make me stronger in Him.
I like this verse as well, only instead of “patience” I learned it as “perseverance” – a small but significant difference! 🙂
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)
Who are we that Christ should dwell within us? Blessed beyond measure!
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans for Hope and a Future. – Jeremiah 28:11
And also: “Be Still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Psalms 27 4 one thing have I desired of the Lord that will I seek after that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple kjv
Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God.
