In addition to the verse I named first, Romans 15:13 NIV
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 12:12 ESV Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Karl January 2, 2015 at 5:45 pm

Romans 12: 12 ……..”faithful in prayer”ESV, “devoted to prayer” NASB . For many of the churches today, have pushed aside, the importance prayer of the church family. But yet here in Romans 12, and especially in Acts 1: 14 this is what the body of believers did back in the ACTUAL time of J-sus. My, how far the church “service” has come from the Biblical example left to believers today.

Jack Wellman January 2, 2015 at 7:47 pm

Karl, thank you sir. You say “how far the church “service” has come from the Biblical example left to believers today” so is this your experience in your church? Has it been for several churches you’ve been in? we devote at least 1/3 to 1/4th of our time in prayer in church. Last Sunday we used your whole Sunday school class (1 hour) for nothing but prayer so for some churches, yes it might be rare but not in all churches and in many they are devoted to prayer but how much time at home we spend in prayer is really important and Romans 12:12 is talking about the Christian’s walk in life, Paul is not talking about church services.

Karl January 2, 2015 at 8:03 pm

At the church I now attend at one time we ACTUALLY took prayer requests DURING the service. But now, members are ASKED to fill out a prayer request card and the request will be prayed for.

Jack Wellman January 2, 2015 at 8:09 pm

Great point Karl. Thanks for the clarification. I think they should pray right then and there. That’s what we do. We take prayer requests at the very beginning of church (after opening praise song) and pray right then and there. I see why you are concerned. I think we are putting aside what is really perhaps the most important thing we have at our access…the very power of God and that is prayer. Why not do it then and there! I agree. They’re making prayer a 2nd, 3rd or worse priority and then not having ALL the members pray together right there! That’s how Peter got freed from jail. Excellent point Karl. You are very right to be concerned my brother. Thank you for that!

Karl January 2, 2015 at 8:15 pm

Thank you brother Jack. I base my delight, concern for prayer as the disciples spent approximately three (3) years with our L-rd and S-vior, and the ONLY item I find in the Word of G-d the disciples asking J-sus to teach them, was HOW TO PRAY, Luke 11: 1-4.

Jack Wellman January 2, 2015 at 8:19 pm

Spot on my brother…the disciples didn’t ask Him “Lord, teach us how to preach, Lord teach us how to heal, Lord teach us how to multiply loaves and fish” but “Lord, teach us how to pray.” You’ve got the right priority…sadly, many other churches don’t and it is to their hurt! Wish I had you in my church brother. You would be a great member of the Body of Christ to any congregation.

Karl January 2, 2015 at 8:30 pm

Brother Jack,
Thank you for the compliment, but J-sus is the one who has blessed me with the thirst, desire to bring the prayer life to the front of believers life. As I am sure you already know, there are hundreds and hundreds of Biblically based Christian books on prayer. But just as reading an automobile repair manual does NOT make you an auto mechanic, the same with reading prayer books does NOT make you a prayer. One HAS to pray.

Jack Wellman January 2, 2015 at 9:21 pm

Amen Karl. Jesus said “WHEN you pray…” not “If you pray” and from that we conclude that we MUST pray. Good point friend.

I have no religion, but interestingly enough I -do- have what you could call a life verse.

Matthew 25:40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'”

Pst Ella March 26, 2015 at 6:36 am

O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup;
You maintain my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Yes, I have a good inheritance.

Ps 16: 5-6

I love this scripture. It assures me that all I dream and aspire is already secured in God!

My life verse is psalm 107:13-14
They cried to The Lord in their troubles and he rescued them. He led them out of darkness and the shadow of death and snapped their chains!

(Resued from substance abuse, prostitution, self mutilation and a ton of other things ) thank u Lord Jesus !

my life verse is matt 5:16
Let your light so shine before men that they may see your
good works and glorfiy your father which is in heaven.

Titus 2:11-15
For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

15 These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

my life verse is psalm 91:2 I will say of the lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom i will trust.

Valerie February 25, 2016 at 4:55 pm

So many wonderful verses. i guess my life verse would be Isaiah 26:3: You keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. (That’s probably a medly of versions!)

Isaiah 41:10
So fear not, for I am with you;
Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Somehow this verse is often exactly what I need to hear. My Mom always keeps a card with a Bible verse over the kitchen sink. For months she didn’t change it. Then exactly when I needed it she changed it to this verse.

Romans 12:1-2

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

My life verse is Colossians 3:23-24 = Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Has gotten me through many rough times.

Jack Wellman April 23, 2019 at 2:13 pm

Great selection Tina. Thank you for your comment.

I absolutely love – 2 Samuel 22:20 – 20 He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me.

God rescues us! Why because he delights in us!
This scripture just makes me smile!
