Bible Verses About Strength- 25 Encouraging Scripture Quotes

by Josh Wiley · Print Print · Email Email

Bible Verses about strength must start and end with God. It is the power and strength that comes from God that carries us on. As Christians we need to surrender to the strength that God provides and His strength is made perfect in our weakness. As you read through these scripture quotes about strength be encouraged in that it  is not your strength that is needed but the strength that God willingly supplies. Feel free to use this study for a devotional, topical Bible study or Sunday School lesson.

All Strength Comes From God

It is so refreshing to know that we can rest in the strength and comfort that God will provide when facing troubles of many kinds. Let Him have the glory and show himself strong. Listen to this Bible verse: 2Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.” God wants to show Himself strong on your behalf. Surrender to Him today and let the peace that He gives you take over. We cannot fully serve God without full surrender to his Strength.

Bible Verses About StrengthStrength Comes From God Bible Verses

Isaiah 40:28-31  Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God,   the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint,   and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;   they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary;   they shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 41:10  fear not, for I am with you;  be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you,  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

1 Chronicles 16:11  Seek the LORD and his strength;  seek his presence continually!

Exodus 15:2 The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Philippians 4:13  I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Psalm 18:32-34  the God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless. He made my feet like the feet of a deer  and set me secure on the heights. He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

1 Corinthians 10:13  No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Psalm 119:23  Even though princes sit plotting against me, your servant will meditate on your statutes.

Examples of Showing Strength in the Bible

The following Bible verses on being strong show us biblical examples of strength and the faith it takes to trust in God so completely that He is your strength. Imagine how much faith it took for Abraham to be willing to sacrifice his long awaited son Isaac.

  • David

1 Samuel 30:6  And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.

  • Paul

2 Timothy 4:17  But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth.

  • Peter

1 Peter 4:11  whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

  • Joshua

Joshua 1:9-11  Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”And Joshua commanded the officers of the people, “Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you are to pass over this Jordan to go in to take possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.'”

  • Abraham

Genesis 22:1-3  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here am I.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.

Bible Verses Showing Strength Comes From Faith Not From Fear

Are you struggling through a situation today and are grasping for answers? How should you respond? Respond with faith and not fear, knowing the promises of God and His mighty hand will hold you through any situation!

Psalm 27:1   The LORD is my light and my salvation;    whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life;  of whom shall I be afraid?

Matthew 17:20  He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Mark 10:52  And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.

Matthew 21:21  And Jesus answered them,  “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith anddo not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen.

Bible Scripture Quotes About Strength as Related to Courage

Jesus has truly overcome the world the day he gave His life for all on the cross. Take peace and be encouraged knowing it is Him who is mighty to save. He will not leave you or forsake you.

Deuteronomy 31:6  Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

John 16:33  I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Psalm 23:4  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,   I will fear no evil, for you are with me;   your rod and your staff,    they comfort me.

Strength Bible Verses- Because of the Hope and Love we have In Jesus Christ

Do not lose heart or become discouraged as we have the Hope of Jesus Christ and eternal life to carry us through. Stay in the Bible and pray continually seeking the face of God and He will be with you. I pray these Bible verses fill your heart with hope from the truth of God’s mighty word.

Zephaniah 3:17    The LORD your God is in your midst,   a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness;   he will quiet you by his love;  he will exult over you with loud singing.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18  So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,  as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

2 Timothy 1:7  for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Job 13:15  Though he slay me, I will hope in him;   yet I will argue my ways to his face.

Romans 5:5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Christian Quote About Strength

“Those who serve God must serve Him in His own way, and in His strength, or He will never accept their service. That which man doth, unaided by divine strength, God can never own. The mere fruits of the earth He casteth away; He will only reap that corn, the seed of which was sown from heaven, watered by grace, and ripened by the sun of divine love. God will empty out all that thou hast before He will put His own into thee; He will first clean out thy granaries before He will fill them with the finest of the wheat. The river of God is full of water; but not one drop of it flows from earthly springs. God will have no strength used in His battles but the strength which He Himself imparts. Are you mourning over your own weakness? Take courage, for there must be a consciousness of weakness before the Lord will give thee victory. Your emptiness is but the preparation for your being filled, and your casting down is but the making ready for your lifting up.” – Charles Spurgeon

D.L. Moody once said that “If you partner with God, Make your plans big!” I encourage you today to make God your partner. Whatever your burden is that caused you to search for strength, give it up to him now. Do not let another minute go by without completely surrendering your burdens to Him. God wants to be your strength. Surrender to Him in your weakness and let Him show Himself strong. Remember if God brings you to it, He will bring you through it!

I am always being tested by the devil. Last year I lost my right lung. I have cancer, and have been trying to quit smoking cigarettes since. Just recently I started reading passages to show me strength and I seen that to receive God’s. Strength. I have to surrender and let his will be done. Now believe with all my heart that when I put on the armor of God, he walks with me down the dark path of my life shining a bright light to lead the way he wants.

it was inly a year ago that my doctor had said that I had thyroid cancer and keep in mind that I was only 14 years old, and that I had to get surgery asap. my family and I were in tear not knowing what to expect and was in fear. It has been weeks and weeks that I have been praying to god to please be with me and to let everything be okay and that I was going to put everything in his hand… it was the day of the surgery a 7-8 hour surgery. before I had it I prayed one last time and at that time I felt his presents I said to god please help me don’t let anything bad happen to me , tell me that everything is going to be okay, and so on. at that time I felt him touching my hand and whispering that everything was going to be ok and to not worry about anything. I opened my eyes to see if it was my mom and it wasn’t. I suddenly felt this calmness inside me, like if nothing was going to happen to me. and here I am in perfect conditions. and there hasn’t been a single day that goes by that I don’t thank god.

SOPHIA October 28, 2015 at 1:11 am

I wish you the best. I am happy your surgery with well . you got thank God each and everyday God is good.

Actually to hit the nail on the head,Jesus Christ is the lord and Saviour of mankid .He is the ever present friend that never lives us no matter the problems that we are facing.Eventhough the earth shakes and the waves in the sea roars ,I have just one thing in me:letting Jesus to take over.May those who trust in the Lord never be put into shame forever and ever.He is the light to our feet ,the auther and finisher of our faith.Forever He reigns.

I’m a young lady who is struggling with my Faith I feel so far from God like his not with me and never hears my prayers. As a result I don’t pray regularly

Jack Wellman May 22, 2016 at 4:17 pm

Don’t give up friend. Don’t depend on feelings but on what God says in His Word and He will hear your prayers after you confess your sins. If you don’t pray, then you might be telling God that you don’t need Him or His help. I will pray for you!

I am going through difficulties with my place of employment. The shop owner and coworkers are feeling like enemies and i feel targeted.. I hope for strength and guidance from my lord and savor Jesus chrirst. It is only him that can take my hand to pull me through this. Lord I surrender to you. Please help me, i love you. AJ N.

Jack Wellman June 9, 2016 at 11:15 am

My friend, God will strengthen you when you trust in Him. He alone is worthy of our trust. Jesus said that we will be hated because if they persecuted Him, they will us, since they hated Him, they will hate us but it’s not us they really hate…it is the Person of Christ who we represent. Take heart. God will not forsake you, ever. Jesus tells us what to do; pray for those who hate you, do good to those who do bad to you, love those who persecute you and bless those who despise you. That is our calling.

A Johnson June 9, 2016 at 1:15 pm

I’m truly going through struggles at my work place. From the owner to my boss I feel like I’m being targeted and misunderstood. I kno that I can not fight this fight without the strength of my god. He always brings me through my tribulations, i just have to remember to surrender it to him and he will take over. I can’t go at these forces alone. Please god give me the strength and guidance I need to be who you’ve deemed me to be. I love you, stay with me.

Jack Wellman June 9, 2016 at 1:40 pm

Great prayer sir. I agree that you can get through this but only by God’s strength. Love the idea of surrender. Well said.

God hear and answers the prayers we pray (in faith). Mark 11:24. God is faithful and we have His promise to answer us but we need to believe He hears and answers us. This is how we believe and have confidence that we will see the answer to our prayer. Look at
1 John 5:14-15.

Susan July 29, 2016 at 8:37 pm

Please pray
For me and my family, the first s so hard,

I love God so much and I believe He is the only reason why I’m alive today. There is a lot happening in my life right now. I feel oppressed at work and no one wants to work with me,I’m in a really bad financial situation n it’s because of my wrong choices. I feel that I’m drifting away from my faith n hope in God. For the past 16 months I have never been to church, most of the time I’m drinking alcohol with friends I even borrow money to buy it. I feel really bad afterwards sometimes I can’t even sleep at I’m filled with regrets always complaining. What makes matter worse I’m a single mother of two lovely boys n I’m afraid because of them seeing me drunk. I seriously need God and prayers in my life right now. How do I surrender to him

Jack Wellman September 5, 2016 at 4:36 pm

Why would you not be in a church. the church can help you because they can pray for you and sometimes, they have programs like Celebrate Recovery, which helps people break their additions. Call your pastor. Join the church. Ask them to pray for you, even if it’s for an “Unspoken need.” You must surrender but you must also seek the body of Christ to come along side of you in prayer, an accountability partner, and in all things. Being a Christian is not a solo act.

Athi November 2, 2016 at 4:21 am

God is just amazing…here is my story… i grew up feeling regected by my mom,she was a single parent and only had me when she was 16,my grandmother raised me so i ddnt stay with my mom,she would only come home now and then because she was studying and a child i was always lonely and felt unloved which led me to liking men because that was the only time i would hear someone telling me he loves me, when i was 16 i was raped by this older guy and he broke my virginity, from there i gave my self up to any man because i ddnt want to be forced,,i had no one to talk to,when i was 18 i fell pregnant and the father ddnt support me in anyway so i dated guys with money to survive with my daughter…time went on, i was drinking, smoking and also taking ecstasy,, i reached a point where i couldnt continue living the life i was living, i would ask God to help me but i felt like he wasnt there or listening to me so id go back to my old ways,,,until one time i decided this is enough i need to stop this, then that same day i was praying to God something weird happened to me, it felt like my soul was running away from my body,i started hearing voices i could sleep, i heard people saying they want to go with me i dont know where, they keot shouting my name to go with them to babysit i dont know what…at that point i wasnt close with God but i called on him i preyed and kept praying, i would tell these people to leave me alone because i am a child of God and i do not want to go anywhere with them, they would keep remindi me of the thjings i was doing, still i kept my eyes on the Lord asking and seeking his strengeth.. that was the most difficult thing in my life,i felt like a dead person,i was confused i was scared i was seeing thing it was just terrible, i was taken to church and prayed for,it got worse and worse but i just kept calling on God.. This went on for months and months, but still i ddnt give up on the Lord, for some reason i just ddnt give up,the evil spirit was just following me but kept my faith on the Lord,,, But today im happy to say that the Lord saved me from an attack any person can belive.. God is awsome, im not perfect but i try to walk on the right path, the love of god keeps me going..,. so whatever you are going thru, no situation is permanent if u trust in the Lord,,just be patient and take one step at a time keep ur eyes on him.he is a faithful God he will never fail,,,

Carlos February 10, 2019 at 4:41 am

It’s 3:30 in the morning and I am awake again with all this stress and trials I am going through and I found this website. It just humbled me and reminded that I am not alone. That I can rest in knowing that God is with me, if only I can let faith be my stronghold. Thank you for God’s word so that I can find peace.

Dennon February 22, 2017 at 2:36 am

I was born a christian and baptised as one (while I was a baby). Last time I went to church was when I was 9, cannot remember the last time I opened the bible, cannot recall ever reading it… I’ve always had an image that religious poeple are the biggest hypocrites that live among us. I have been reading verses such as these for the past week now, all I can say is that my view on life and people is starting to change (for the good that is)….

Jack Wellman February 22, 2017 at 9:37 am

Hello Dennon. Actually, no one is born a Christian. They are born again, from above by God Himself (John 3:3-8), and being baptized as a baby means nothing. That doesn’t save anyone. If you are not opening up your Bible, talk to your pastor today. Give him a call. Join a Weds night, Sunday night Bible studies and Sunday school and you can grow in His grace. We are actually born into sin (Psalm 51) and not born as a Christian. Who told you this? Anyway, I am so glad you’ve started reading the Bible and, hopefully, are in the body of Christ, the church.
