Thanks for the article It is very timely, I was just speaking to my wife yesterday on whether the word believe in the bible is the same as I use it…I know that I have some way to go, but I thank the lord I am on the path

I am most grateful for your comments David. Believe me, I had to do some research on this and did not rely on my tiny, “pea brain” but pray that the Holy Spirit continues to reveal more and more of God and His awesome attributes sir. I too have a long way to go…to far to describe really so I am with you too…a student of the Master.

Thanks Jack,
Your article reminds us how important it is to keep in mind the situation in which the Words of the Bible were written. In other words, just like you said, context is very important. Thanks for a great article…now I won’t have to say, “Herman, who?”
Yours in Christ,
Robert

Funny joke Robert. I believe you are being more humble here for knowing your biblical education I know that you know a lot more that you are letting in on here. Herman who? Loved it. I agree because I can take your own words out of context too, as with anyone else, and make them say things they never intended. I won’t go there with this about you…I will let the liberal media handle that one! LOL Thanks brother.

Well Jack,

You up and did it again, not like Britney Spears, what an enlightening article. I never realized it before but there are so many passages in the Bible that I knew were being interpeted incorrectly, but people would just say, “see, it’s right here!”, how do you contest that? For the longest time I had no idea how to properly ascertain the correct meaning, now I have an even better tool! I have been thinking of getting a Key Word study Bible, but I really couldn’t justify it, I really did not understand it. Well, you certainly cleared that up for me, first stop on the way home, I am going to pick up the NASB version of the Key Word study Bible, and dig into it.
Jack, for the past six months or so I literally get excited and so look forward to studying the Bible, my wife thinks I have lost it, I think different! Because of this thirst my tv gets turned on very little, I get my tasks done that I have to do and spend the night studying. I just started studying Hosea, boy when God makes a point, he doesn’t go halfway! I told my wife what it was about and she could not believe it, I had to show her and she was amazed. Thank you again Jack for yet another in a series of eye opening articles!

Yearning for Learning,
Yours in Christ,
Chris Martel

Hi Chris,
I just had to say how your comment encourages me. It just makes my heart glad when I hear of someone’s love for God’s Word. That only comes out of a love for God Himself. And it only gets better. God bless you, Chris.
Yours in Christ,
Robert

Chris, as usual, your are more kind to me than I deserve for truly, what do I have or what have I learned that I did not receive from above. I love the fact that your wife thinks you lost it….hey, I hope you never find it for truly, few have such a hunger and thirst for the Word of God than you do my friend. For one thing, the more I learn about the Bible, the more I realize just how much there is in it and in a thousand lifetimes, I could never stop learning. I also realize just how ignorant I am still in many areas.

I still think your related to Barnabas…such an encourager. God bless you my friend and thank you. When I hear at home, “Well, you’ve done it again” its usually not good! LOL.

This was a great explanation on this topic. I learned about hermeneutics in Bible College, but I never really attempted to apply it. Thank you for helping me understand it better. I can say that hermeneutics is a great tool to use. One example that comes to mind is when Jesus asks Peter in John 21:15-17 “Do you love me?” three times. He uses “agape” the first 2 times and “phileo” the last time to drive His point home. “Peter, do you even love me as a brother?” That is why Peter was so grieved the last time. Jesus wanted to bring this kind of emotion out of Peter so he would understand the importance of Jesus’ next words in verses 18-19 about how Peter would be martyred. I have a long way to go too on this journey. Thank you for another educational article Jack! God Bless you brother.

In His Name Always,
Derek

Thanks Derek. That example of Jesus and Peter is a superb example and one that I wished I had thought of. Excellent. Thanks brother for your kind words and all you do.
