Easter Bible Verses – 20 Awesome Scripture Quotes

by Pamela Rose Williams · Print Print · Email Email

In the spring of each year we celebrate Easter. Easter is a time to think about the “new life” that we have in Jesus.  Surprisingly, the word “Easter” only appears in the KJV Bible one time in the verse Acts 12:4. A better translation of the Greek word “Pascha” used in Acts 12:4 is Passover. Although Passover was celebrated by the early Christian Church, today it remains a holy day celebrated by the Jewish people. Christians, of course, celebrate Easter and many call it Resurrection Sunday.  Without a doubt, the resurrection of Jesus the Messiah is of great importance to the history of mankind. Let’s look at these 20 awesome Bible quotes about Easter and see how the Bible shows us that Jesus truly did rise from the dead.

There Were Eye Witnesses to the Risen Jesus (possibly in this order)

Mark 16:9 KJV (Mary Magdalene) Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

Matthew 28:8-10 (the other women) So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.  And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

Luke 24:34 (Simon Peter) saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!”

Mark 16:12 (the two men on the road to Emmaus) After these things he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country.

John 20:19-24 (eleven of the Apostles) On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”  When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”  Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came.

John 20:25-26 (all twelve Apostles 8 days later) So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”  Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

John 21:1 (seven by the Sea of Tiberias) After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way.

1 Corinthians 15:6 (more than 500; dead and alive) Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.

Easter is a time to think about the "new life" that we have in Jesus.

1 Corinthians 15:7 (James) Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.

Acts 1:3, 9 (the twelve at the ascension) He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God … And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.

Other Testimonies of the Resurrection of Jesus

The Original Apostles Gave Testimony

John 21:24-25 This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true. Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.

1 John 5:13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.

Acts 2:29-32 “Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.  Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.  This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses.

Acts 4:32-34 Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common.  And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold

The Apostle Paul Testified

Acts 26:25-26 But Paul said, “I am not out of my mind, most excellent Festus, but I am speaking true and rational words. For the king knows about these things, and to him I speak boldly. For I am persuaded that none of these things has escaped his notice, for this has not been done in a corner…”

1 Corinthians 15:14-20 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised.  And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.  Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.  If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.

For Those Who Believe in the Resurrection

John 6:40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.

John 11:25-26
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

Romans 10:8-9 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

1 Peter 1:3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time
