Biblical Signs of the Second Coming Of Jesus Christ

by Jack Wellman · Print Print · Email Email

When Jesus Christ’s disciples asked Him about His return and the “end of the world” their focus was not on the physical end of the earth and its civilization per se. They had in mind the end of the age of man’s rule (the Greek word translated “world” is aion, meaning “age”) and the commencement of a different age ruled by Jesus Christ as king, a reign identified elsewhere in Scripture as the kingdom of God.

In His reply, Christ described the many and varied conditions that would precede His return. They included such things as deception, wars, famines, disease epidemics, earthquakes and religious persecution, all culminating in an unprecedented time of worldwide calamity. We have already experienced in the disastrous 20th and 21st centuries many harbingers of just such a calamity. The earthquake in Japan and ensuing tsunami is a good example. But if we are to believe the prophecies of Scripture, there are many worse events yet to come. (Matt. 24: 3-29)

Just before Jesus’ return He continued by say, ‘Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. And there shall be signs in the sun and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.’” (Luke 21 v.10-11, 25-26)

The Apostle Paul Addresses Signs of Jesus’ Return

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,  Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (2 Timothy 3:1-7)  According to this, a communication gap is not the problem. The cause of increasing immorality is simply an increase in pride and sinfulness; a decrease in desire for true godliness.

The Apostle Paul accurately predicted, “The time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths” (2 Tim. 4:3, 4). It is understood, the “desires” which some will try to “suit” are sinful! Could it be that doctrinal mythology is the result of people with “itching ears” turning to “a great number of teachers” who will say what itching ears with sinful desires want to hear?

Without Natural Affection – One of the most basic Judeo Christian principles has been the natural and beautiful attraction between the sexes. The love of a mother and father for their children, the love of the extended family for each other, and the love of one’s country were similarly considered “natural.” Today we are living in a depraved Romans chapter one world that many fear God has given or will give up to “vile passions” that reverse the normal order of things. (Roman 1 v.26-27)

The Apostle Peter Addresses Signs Of Jesus’ Second Coming

It is fascinating to note that almost 2000 years ago the apostle Peter, an untrained Galilean fisherman, predicted the exact thinking patterns that would characterize these scoffers. He prophesied that … “Scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which now exist are kept in store by the same word, reserved for fire until the Day of Judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” (2 Peter 3 v.3-7)

Why does Peter say that the scoffers are so blind?  He provides us with 2 reasons why: The first is found in 2 Peter 3 v5, “For this they willfully forget.” The unregenerate minds of unbelievers resist the idea of the intervention of God in human affairs. Their problem is spiritual, a matter of the will, and the unbeliever remains deliberately ignorant of the truth. Peter mentions a second reason for the scoffer’s intellectual blindness in verse 3.  He was told that “the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.”

The King is coming, enjoy this video as you continue to read on:

The Prophet Daniel On The Final Days When Jesus Comes Again

“Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly” But Daniel was told that the remaining prophecies are sealed until the last days and that “the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.” (Dan. 12 v.9)

The Top 7 Signs of the Tribulation

Rev. 9: 20 lists the top 7 signs of the Tribulation:

  •  Rebellion against God (“They did not repent”).
  •  Worship of Demons
  •  Idolatry
  •  Murders
  •  Sorceries (“Phar-mak-voos”, from pharmaco for drugs)
  •  Sexual Immorality
  •  Thefts

Why not accept the Lord as Savior today and cleanse all sin from your life and your entry into heaven is secure.  Jesus sacrifice renders you blameless before God in the Great Day of Judgment (Rev. 20:12).  You can be in front of two different Judgment Seats. The Beam Seat of Christ, where the saved are given their eternal rewards, and with it, eternal life or at the Great White Throne Judgment, where the only judgment is to be separated from Jesus Christ for eternity. No one knows the day Christ will return. The end your chance to be saved can come anytime because no one has any guarantee that they will live beyond tomorrow. Die without Christ and the end is now. Here’s how to make certain you are ready at any time:

How to Receive & Know you Have Eternal Life

Admit – that you are a sinner and in need of a Savior (Rom 6:23)

Abandon – self-effort and realize that you can not be saved by your works or your own efforts (Acts 16:31)

Accept freely Christ’s payment for your sins, required of the Father (John 3:16)

Acknowledge Jesus Christ as your personal lord and Savior (Acts 4:12)

Repent of your sins which means forsake them and turn away from them (Mark 1:15).

Finally, put your trust in Christ to save you and believe in Him and you have eternal life (John 3:16-17).

Now you are secure in God’s hands (John 10:28-29).  As I said, no one has any guarantee that they will live beyond tomorrow and if you die without Christ, for you, the end is now; and for all eternity. Make the decision today, right now. His return has never been closer than it is today. No one knows exactly when Jesus returns but Hebrews 3:7-15 and II Corinthians 6:2 say that, Today is the accepted day of salvation, and now is the day of salvation. Tomorrow may never come. I beg you to come today, while it is still called today.

you are delirious. all the signs of the so called coming of christ have been present since we became human.

Jack Wellman February 19, 2017 at 8:52 am

Thank you Mr. Harrington. All believers have lived for the last 2,000 years as if the Lord is coming soon, and that’s the way God intended as Jesus said we don’t know the day and hour so always be ready, but to say I am delirious? Really? This word means “not able to think or speak clearly especially because of fever or other illness” so you think I am delirious? Wow. Please be careful about name-calling (see Matt 5).

P. Scott Parker January 24, 2019 at 3:41 am

So sorry to see how delusional that you are. Listen, we ALL make choices. You have chosen to believe in absolute ridiculousness. That the universe just “happened” just occurred (i.e., like straight out of your butt via a fart). Whaaaaaatever, dude. Hope that you like your choice. I suspect that you will not. You are, IMO, choosing absurdity, illogic, and ahistorical precedent over actual historical occurences. Read: The Case for Christ, and then get back to me……………

CK September 21, 2019 at 4:50 pm

Well I guess Strobel agreed and found Christ. He became a pastor in 1987, produced and hosted a Christian television program, and has written several more books, including The Case For Christianity. There is never any reason to degrade anyone, even if you don’t agree with their position. I pray the Lord Jesus touch and bless you and your family.

Jack Wellman September 21, 2019 at 5:47 pm

Well said my friend. I so agree. We need to be building up the Body of Christ and not tearing down one another. Your comments were a blessing so thank you.

Joe Whitelaw September 22, 2019 at 4:44 am

Wow! Exactly what the Bible says you would say. Thanks for clarifying that.

Very informative. Really makes me think and want to know more! Thank you

LM December 25, 2017 at 11:56 pm

The 2nd coming of Jesus Christ has already occurred on 1st August, 2017. But after a few months on 1st October, 2017 he was captured & his final death occurred on 25th October, 2017

Jack Wellman December 26, 2017 at 9:12 am

Hello LM. If Jesus had come back, no one could capture Him and kill Him. He is God. If He has returned, then why haven’t they beaten their weapons of war into plowshares. Jesus has not come back again. There is zero evidence for that. Where did you get your information LM?

Deb September 23, 2019 at 3:10 pm

The Bible teaches that when Jesus comes again EVERY EYE SHALL SEE HIM, the dead in Christ shall rise and those who are alive shall be caught up with them in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Ist Thesselionians. Also we are told that Jesuscwill destroy this earth and even the heavens for He says, I will make a new heaven and a new earth. … The dead are still sleeping waiting to hear the Masters voice to come forth. This earth is still the same and wickedness still abounds as well as desth hearache etc. Therefore Jesus has NOT COME yet. Hope this helps.

Jack Wellman September 23, 2019 at 3:20 pm

Amen Deb. Jesus has not come or we would all see Him as you said, “Every eye shall see Him.” As for the dead, their bodies will be joined with their spirit, because Jesus said, God is not the dead but of the living, and to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord,” said Paul.

Jack Wellman September 24, 2019 at 2:45 am

This helps very, very much Deb. How encouraging you are. What joy to read suc comments. To Him belongs veageance (Rom 12:12-19).

Peter November 6, 2019 at 5:06 pm

Trust me (or not but you will see) as Deb says, when Jesus returns ALL will know. I have seen, in a vision, what will happen to those who refuse to repent and it makes me sad. ALL will know when He returns. There will be no mistaking. I can only continue to intercede for those who taunt that they will see and repent. Love to all.

Jack Wellman November 6, 2019 at 6:03 pm

Thank you Peter. Excellent advice sir.

Chloe Martin January 8, 2018 at 8:05 pm

I’m so exited for this moment!Thank you!(sorry if i spelled it wrong)

Jack Wellman September 24, 2019 at 10:27 am

I am with you on this Choloe. The end of all suffering, pain, and even death is coming!!! (Rev 21:4).

Christopher August 10, 2018 at 10:05 pm

I’m struggling with repentance, they say I am bi polar, I take medicine every day, I have been a drunken fool for many years. A criminal, a thief. Infidel. I feel disgust when I look back at my horrible sin nature. I believe Jesus to be real and I believe he speaks to me. I struggle with being judgemental…not loving myself or my neighbors. I am ahbresive with my loved ones. Jesus gave me rest after I had asked for it in jail, on the 13th day. After this a fire was ignited within me. I read the word as if my life depended on it. Oh Lord I beg of your forgiveness, I have accepted you but I still have impure thoughts…immoral acts. I know Christ to be real, I don’t want to be afraid anymore. It says that our good deeds are worthless. I have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my saviour……. does this make my sin diminish? Oh Lord help me with my repentance. I don’t want the medicine anymore, I don’t want the lust anymore, I don’t want the anger, the blame, the utter shame. Please carry my weight Lord. Please allow me to be of use on this Earth.

Robert Driskell September 24, 2019 at 9:57 am

Just know that Jesus is bigger than any problem, temptation, or struggle that you will ever encounter. Trust Him with every part of your life and He will carry you through. That doesn’t mean you won’t have struggles, it means that Jesus will supply the means to get you through them. And, by the way, we ALL still struggle.
Yours in Christ,

Jack Wellman September 24, 2019 at 10:26 am

Great point Robert. You are so right my brother. It is good to hear from you again my friend. I too struggle mightily, so no one is immune and as it says, All who live godly will suffer…”

Tracy May 13, 2019 at 4:55 pm

God said it, I believe it, that’s it!

Jack Wellman September 24, 2019 at 10:28 am

THis is so true Tracy. If it is in His Word, it is true, no matter what others say or whatever we “feel.” Thank you for this encouraging comment about God and His Word.

Jan Pendergast September 21, 2019 at 8:02 pm

Great article, but I do have one concern. You said if you don’t come to know Jesus as Personal Savior, the end is now. Are you saying there is NO Hell and that is not where they will be going. If that was the case, it wouldn’t be so bad. However, that is NOt wat the Bible says. Mat.10:28 -“And do not fear those who killl the body but cannot kill the soul. But, rather fear HIM Whois able to destroy both soul and body in HELL.”

Jack Wellman September 22, 2019 at 7:33 am

Hello Jan. No, I am not saying there is no hell as Jesus taught more about hell than heaven. I did not say that in this article and not sure how you came up with me saying that. I do believe in hell. What I meant is that if you reject Christ and do not believer, you are already condemned. read John 3:18, 3:36. I apologize. Perhaps the way I said it was confusing, so if I did, I am sorry. Thank you for your comment.

Roland September 21, 2019 at 9:12 pm

I don’t know exactly when Christ will return but I do know we are one day closer than yesterday

Betty Jackson September 23, 2019 at 9:31 am

Very well written,we are living in the last days,Thank you and God Bless.

Jack Wellman September 24, 2019 at 10:30 am

Thank you Betty. God bless you for such encouraging words.

Stephen Aki Braimah September 23, 2019 at 4:36 pm

Great exposition on this important topic. Thanks, Pastor Wellman. It is didactic and beneficial to BELIEVERS. I have read a few dissenting comments. Thanks for your response to those people. “YOU CAN DRAG A HORSE TO THE POND BUT YOU CANNOT FORCE THE HORSE TO HAVE A DRINK.” Those who refuse to drink from the well of God’s goodness are like that horse. Father God thank you for copious biblical evidence about the second coming of Jesus Christ. In His Name, Amen.

Jack Wellman September 24, 2019 at 2:43 am

You are so very encouraging sir. Thank you for that. You are so right…you cannot force someone against there will. I pray other men of God like you will have this same passion for the lost. God bless you so very much. You made my day sir.

Mary Ann September 23, 2019 at 8:32 pm

Amen! All of those end time signs are already happening and we must be strong in our walk with GOD. Stay close to GOD so that we will be spared from the calamaities that is happening in the different countries. We must strive to living to please GOD in our thoughts, words and actions.

Jack Wellman September 23, 2019 at 9:05 pm

Spot on Mary Ann. Thank you. So true.

Tim Franz December 5, 2020 at 3:20 pm

Wish I knew which Bible is the correct one. There’s so many. They all can’t be correct. Why is that? Is the LDS version of events more correct than the Roman Catholic version?

If the Bible is the inerrant word of god, then why have MEN so interpreted it so differently? Why spend so much time worrying about the end instead of living good lives here and now.

Certain Christian groups seem to be obsessed with sin and worry excessively about the end.

I remember when Oral Roberts asked for money to finish his hospital. He said the lord was going to take him to heaven soon if the hospital wasn’t finished. SEEMS TO ME, HE’D BE HAPPY TO LET IT GO UNFINISHED! Alas, it was finished and eventually he did die. I would have said, it ain’t gonna be so take me now.

Jack Wellman December 5, 2020 at 4:26 pm

The most accurate translations are the ESV and NASB. The only errors are of grammatical nature and never do the translations negatively affect or conceal the main message of the Word of God (John 3:16; Eph 2:8-9, etc). You cannot judge the Bible by the errors of others (like the late Oral Roberts). If you judge all churches by one man, then it would be fair to judge all unbelievers by Stalin, a mass murderer extraordinaire…but I won’t do that. I have people I know who are nice people who do not believe, so your standard of judgment (using one man, Oral Roberts) is unjust and you throw out the baby with the bath water, assuming there is no good translation, which of course is wrong. I suggest the ESV or NASB.

Norm October 16, 2021 at 4:44 am

I enjoyed your sermon but I am a kjv bible only
In my opinion there is only one true translation and that is the kjv I do have other translation in my study but I stay with the kjv. If you haven’t yet do research on the kjv and what took to come to be. Please don’t take this as a bad review brother just a brother to brother communication with love of Jesus on out minds and thoughts
Brother in Christ Norm

Jack Wellman October 16, 2021 at 10:25 am

Hello Norm. You should know that the King James Version has many errors in it but it is still a good translation.
