Bible Verses for Soldiers: 20 Great Scripture Quotes

by Pamela Rose Williams · Print Print · Email Email

I praise God that I live in a nation that is protected by soldiers, both men and women, who wake up every morning with just one goal in mind: to fight for freedom. Because of what they do the United States of America remains free. Soldiers spend many days, weeks, months and even years away from their loved ones to meet this goal.  The love that they have is unfailing, and it is displayed by their bravery and dedication. Our heavenly Father is the author of unfailing love — steadfast love. The psalmist in the Bible says “Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” (Psalm 143:8). If you are a soldier or a loved one of a soldier, you can also find some great verses that talk about how you can trust, hope, receive peace and rely upon the Lord for the strength that you need to sustain you from day to day.  I’ve narrowed it down to just twenty great Bible verses for soldiers. I pray that you are uplifted and encouraged by these few but powerful quotes.

Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Strength: Prayers and Promises

Psalms 18:31-36 For who is God, but the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?—the God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless. He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on the heights. He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand supported me, and your gentleness made me great. You gave a wide place for my steps under me, and my feet did not slip.

Bible Verses for Soldiers
It is the LORD who goes before you

Psalms 29:11 May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!

Psalms 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalms 73:26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Trust in the Lord, He is with You

Deuteronomy 31:8 It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

Isaiah 41:10 “… fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Psalms 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Isaiah 43:1-2 But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.

Steadfast in Love; Abounding in Hope

Psalms 33:20-22 Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you.

Psalms 130:5 I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.

Romans 5:2-5 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces enduranceand endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Hebrews 6:11, 19 (KJV) And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end … Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil

Jesus Is Peace To All Mankind

Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Luke 2:12-14 (KJV) And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. (words of Jesus)

Romans 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 2:13-14,17 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility … And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.

Christian Quotes About Soldiers

“Our Lord has many weak children in his family, many dull pupils in his school, many raw soldiers in his army, many lame sheep in his flock. Yet he bears with them all, and casts none away. Happy is that Christian who has learned to do likewise with his brethren.”  ~ J. C. Ryle

“Christians, like slaves and soldiers, ask no questions.”  ~ Jerry Falwell

“Now the true soldiers of Christ must always be prepared to do battle for the truth, and must never, so far as lies with them, allow false convictions to creep in.”  ~ Origen Adamantius

Hello Adam,
I am so thankful that you were encouraged by this article. I love your brother even though I never met him! Please will you tell him thank you for me? We are free because of him and the countless others on the front lines and even in support roles — I believe this from the bottom of my heart. It is my pleasure to provide this encouraging reading for you. Blessing to you and to you brother!

Thank you so much for posting this article! I attend a very small rural church and we have several young people currently serving our country. I try to send them a postcard or short note each month and include an encouraging Scripture. These Scriptures you have posted in this article will definitely be “uplifters” for them. 🙂

Hi Skye, I am so happy that you will find this helpful. I pray for the soldiers regularly and your note just makes them a little more real as I have no close family or friends that serve right now. My husband is a veteran as was my Daddy. Daddy served in WWII and has since gone to Heaven. I am so thankful for these special men and women! Thanks for taking time to comment here at WCWTK.

Hi BathSheba, I am so happy that the Word of God has been helpful to you. It is my great pleasure to publish it for all to read. The Word of God is free — just like the gift of eternal life. Have you come to Jesus? Here is a great, quick article of what that means:

I will pray that your father is safe and comes home soon.

Thanks for this article. It must have taken you a lot of time to think about what you were putting up, and I thank you SO much for that. My boyfriend is at Boot Camp this Summer, and I’m just now able to write to him. Every letter I send him, I send him a Bible verse. What surprised me was that I needed the verses as much as he did.

Susan November 12, 2012 at 2:32 pm

Pamela, you should,if you haven`t already read and comment on a very good book called “Psalms 91, God`s Shield Of Protection.” I believe it gives strength to not only soldiers, but to parents and kinfolk alike. Peggy Joyce Ruth and Angelia Ruth Schum. A lot of real life stories. Wonderful book.

Today is April 15th .The unfathomable has happened in Boston. Innocent people have been killed, maimed, and traumatized by the bombing. My heart feels broken for all those affected. When terrible things happen the first thing I want to do is pray and go to the Truth and let God speak through His word in the Bible.
My son is currently at Fort Hood and will leave for Kuwait in May. He is a crew chief on a black hawk helicopter. I know with the news today it brings home the reason he is a soldier. Thank you for your compilation of these Bible verses that will serve my son well.

I was writting him a letter and just didnt know what verse to send him that will help him keep his focus on God. I think I found it through this page! Thank you again and please keep my brother in your prayers and my other brother that has enlisted as well:)

Blessed be The Lord my rock
Who trains my hands for war
And my fingers for battle

Psalm 68
King James Version (KJV)
68 Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him.

2 As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

3 But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice.

What does the Bible say about war as far as ethics are concerned? I see killing is bad and then verses that seem to say “well not all the time.” Like David and the goliath. I enlist soon but I’m still full of questions. Is it okay to kill? Even if my main goal is to save lives as a combat medic, can my actions be justified? is the commandment “thou shall not kill” absolute? Because I feel responsible death if I’m not stopping it.

Jack Wellman December 6, 2016 at 8:21 am

Thank you Dustin. Here is an article that I believe will answer your question sir at this link:

I served 16 years in the army. In 2003 I was deployed to Iraq and returned in 2004. Subsequently I was medically discharged for a lower back injury, and chronic PTSD. I have been very concerned about my soul, since returning home. I have attempted suicide 3 times in the past but my wife seems to always be around, perhaps by Gods design. My psychologist tells me I have done no wrong. This article was very helpful to me, however I still occasionally feel lost.

Sadly now at the end times the commonest have taken over
our Federal Gov.
Forcing good people out in favor of LGBT creeps.
I do hope loyal Oath keepers will protect our nation before it
is too late.
