Good conviction Daryl. Thank you for reminding us to keep our priorities straight.

I just finished C.S. Lewis’ Miracles in which he said we are caught in a paradox between our human and spiritual natures. In our human nature we want this life to last forever as evidenced by our fear of death and seeing it as this great evil to be avoided at all costs. We want the best this life has to offer because, humanly, it is all there is.

OTOH, man’s prior nature(the way we were before the Fall), still lingers as a distant memory of the way things “ought” to be and the way they once were, and we therefore embrace death, as Christians, to have restored that which once was.

This human nature, with greed for accumulation as you mentioned, strife, hatred and all of the baser things(sin) was alien to us at one time but we inherited it as a consequence of the Fall.

So, we struggle, on the one hand not wanting to die and trying to postpone the inevitable at all costs(often literally), while wanting in our spirits to be at home with the lord.

God, we pray for Your help in our helplessness. Lord move in and through Your people by Your Spirit. Give us strength until this mortal finally puts on immortality.(1 Cor 15:53)
