Being a single mom is one of the toughest jobs for a woman no matter the continent nor culture. Some women are single moms by widowhood or by choice in adopting orphans or foster children. Some women found themselves abandoned by the fathers and forced to figure it all out on their own. No matter the reason, the Lord is close to single moms and willing to help them raise their children in the best way possible. Review the 7 encouraging Bible verses for the single mom:

God is your Husband

“For your Maker is your husband—the Lord Almighty is his name—the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth” (Isaiah 54:5).

Just as an earthly husband helps raise children, so does the heavenly Husband help raise the children. Because a single Christian mom is concerned about the Lord’s affairs rather than an earthly husband—she is completely devoted to Him. As a result, an intimate spiritual relationship is birthed where the single mother leans on the Lord to meet her every need according to His riches and glory.

God is your Provider

“Abraham answered, ‘God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.’ And the two of them went on together” (Genesis 22:8).

In any place in the world—single mothers dominate the largest group of people in poverty. Jehovah Jireh (the Lord provides) knows that she has needs and He is more than able to provide everything that is necessary for the family survival. A single mom who keeps her attention on the Lord through prayer, fasting, and Bible study will find how the Lord is able to take care of her and the children above and beyond what she can ask or expect.

The Lord embraces the Christian single mother with His incredible and gracious love.

God is your Protector

“For the Lord your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy, so that he will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you” (Deuteronomy 23:14).

A single mom raising children can find herself in a vulnerable place. Many evil men and women will attempt to break down the family through lies and deceit. It’s important for her to every day entrust her children’s care to the Lord especially if she must leave them alone for long hours day or night to work. God has angels to dispatch in her defense for protection against dangerous people and situations.

God is your Father

“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling” (Psalm 68:5).

With God as her Father, the single mom knows she can trust in Him to keep His promises and encourage her when she is feeling low. Through the Holy Spirit, she will hear words of truth from the Bible to help her to keep pushing ahead. Her Father is also the Father of her children and He will lovingly keep an eye on them to accomplish great things for the kingdom of God.

God is your Helper

“So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?’” (Hebrews 13:6).

One of the greatest struggles of single motherhood is the desire to have help with the children. There is much running around, preparing food, praying and teaching them. The Lord is a Helper to give wisdom and insight on ministering to the children as well as leading her to the right people who want to help out. Having a discerning heart to hear from God is vital for the single mother who needs help.

God is your Peace

“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23).

When a single mom is at peace, so is her household. She can find peace that goes beyond her own understanding to keep her heart and mind through Jesus Christ. There will be stormy days of confusion and unrest, yet because she’s praying and trusting in the Lord—there is great calm within her that seeps out touching her family members.

God is your Future

“Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the Lord your God gives you for all time” (Deuteronomy 4:40).

The statistics aren’t great for the children of single moms and this can be a very discouraging fact of life. However, for the single mom who loves and serves the Lord—she has hope for their future. God has a purpose and plan for every single mother’s child. If she trains them in the ways of the Lord, they will know the truth and be able to overcome all adversity that comes their direction.

Lord, bless the single mothers…

While raising children alone can be a struggle at times, there’s great joy in witnessing the hand of God in many miraculous ways and wonders. He’s available all the time to hear her prayers and act on her behalf. The Lord embraces the Christian single mother with His incredible and gracious love. She and her children will make it through this life and enter eternity with much joy and strength.
