Bible Verses About Overcoming: 21 Motivational Quotes

by Daryl Evans · Print Print · Email Email

Whenever I think of the word, motivation, I think of the sports world.  I have been a sports fan for my entire life.  Motivation is often a big part of which team wins or looses a game.  Coaches will often credit “motivation” when they win and likewise will say there was a “lack of motivation” when they loose.  Motivation is not something that can be measured but each of us knows exactly what it is.  Sometimes we may be motivated to do things in our life and we follow through on a commitment or promise.  Other times we can also feel the “lack of motivation” in our own lives.  The Bible is filled with words that not only challenge us but give us motivation to overcome obstacles in our lives.  I have broken down these motivational verses into three categories below.

Isaiah 41:13 For I, the LORD your God,  hold your right hand;   it is I who say to you, “Fear not,  I am the one who helps you.”

Bible Verses Overcoming Fear

Psalms 27:1 The LORD is my  light and my  salvation;  whom shall I fear?  The LORD is the stronghold of my life;  of whom shall I be afraid?

Isaiah 54:4 “Fear not, for you will not be ashamed;  be not confounded, for you will not be disgraced;  for you will forget the shame of your youth,   and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more.

Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

1 Peter 3:13-14 Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good?  But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed.  Have no fear of them, nor be troubled,

Bible Verses Overcoming Temptation

Often times, we need to figure out what is holding us back and then we can move forward.

Luke 22:40  And when he came to  the place, he said to them,  “Pray that you may not  enter into temptation.”

1 Corinthians 6: 18-20 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.  Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?  You are not your own, For you were bought with a price.  So glorify God in your body.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man.  God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Galatians 5:16  But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Hebrews 2:18 For because he himself has suffered  when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

James 1:14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

James 4:17  So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

1 John 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is  faithful and just to forgive us our sins and  to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Bible Verses Overcoming Anger

Psalms 37:8 Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath!  Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.

Psalms 149:8-9  to bind their kings with  chains and their nobles with fetters of iron, to execute on them the judgment  written!  This is honor for all his godly ones.   Praise the LORD!

Proverbs 14:29  Whoever is  slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.

Proverbs 17:27  Whoever  restrains his words has knowledge,  and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.

Ecclesiastes 7:9  Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the heart  of fools.

2 Timothy 2:23-24 Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but  kind to everyone,  able to teach, patiently enduring evil,

James 1:19-21 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear,  slow to speak,  slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

I don’t know what has drawn you to read this article today.  If you read this far, you probably have not been feeling very good about your life in one particular area.  Often times, we need to figure out what is holding us back and then we can move forward.  My prayer this day is that you find a verse or two that you can memorize that will give you strength to overcome whatever sin or obstacle that is holding you back from living a victorious life in Christ.
