15 Christian Quotes About Atheism Or Atheists

by Pamela Rose Williams · Print Print · Email Email

Atheism, according to one source is “a) a disbelief in the existence of deity; b) the doctrine that there is no deity”[1]. So then, it is true that a person who professes to be an Atheist does not believe in the one true God or any gods at all. Atheists, just as Christians, often discuss theology and other topics of religion and so it is something that receives a lot of attention. Take a look at these fifteen Christian quotes about atheism or atheists.  Feel free to share any more in the comments below.

Atheism – Simple and Strong

Atheism turns out to be too simple. If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning. ~ C.S. Lewis

Atheism shows strength of mind, but only to a certain degree. ~ Blaise Pascal

Atheism, I began to realize, rested on a less-than-satisfactory evidential basis. The arguments that had once seemed bold, decisive, and conclusive increasingly turned out to be circular, tentative, and uncertain. ~Allister McGrath

Atheism cheapens everything it touches-look at the results of communism, the most powerful form of atheism on earth. ~ Peter Kreeft

15 Christian Quotes About Atheism Or Atheists

Evidence, Philosophy and Superstition

A little philosophy inclineth man’s mind to atheism, but depth in philosophy bringeth men’s minds about to religion. ~Francis Bacon

The devil divides the world between atheism and superstition. ~ George Herbert

It was the evidence from science and history that prompted me to abandon my atheism and become a Christian. ~ Lee Strobel

Human Reality & Foolishness

The use or abuse of Christianity in contradiction to the very message of the gospel reveals not the gospel for what it is, but the heart of man. That is why atheism is so bankrupt as a view of life, for it miserably fails to deal with the human condition as it really is. ~ Ravi Zacharias

Many an atheist is a believer without knowing it just as many a believer is an atheist without knowing it. You can sincerely believe there is no God and live as though there is. You can sincerely believe there is a God and live as though there isn’t. ~ Frederick Buechner

In agony or danger, no nature is atheist. The mind that knows not what to fly to, flies to God. ~ Hannah More

I was being foolish. An atheist can’t stand behind their assertion that God doesn’t exist. The stupidest thing I ever could have done was to reject His Truth. ~Kirk Cameron

Darwinism’s atheism prevents science from knowing why things are as they are. Without God there is no answer to the why for anything. ~David Hunt

In the Bible

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. ~Psalm 14:1

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed [it] unto them.  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse ~ Romans 1:18-20

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. ~ Colossians 2:10

Final Thoughts

The Atheist (one who subscribes to the beliefs of Atheism), though they claim not to be religious truly are. After all, the simplest definition of religion is “an interest, a belief or an activity that is very important to a person or a group” [2] and for the Atheist that belief is that there is no God.

I loved it Pamela,

I have discussed Christ with proclaimed atheists for years. The greatest success I have seen has been to present to the atheist God’s Law(10 Commandments), and let it “sit” a while. Humbly telling them everyone including myself has broken some or many of these Laws and are guilty before a just God.

Yes, I have been derided and laughed to scorn many times but at other times a miracle happens. The Scripture says, “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.”(Rom 3:19)

It is a miracle but I have witnessed the vilest mouths struck dumb(stopped) when God’s Law is simply stated, maybe like this, “Steve, do you know that God’s Law, the 10 Commandments say that we must not steal or lie. We are not to look on a woman to lust after her and we are not to say God’s Name in vain(blasphemy)?”

I confess that I have often looked at their eyes expecting them to have a vile reply but they are mute. I hurry to then explain the wonderful solution to these offenses against God through belief in Jesus, the One who paid our penalty.

I mention this to simply say to your readership to take God at His Word and to try this. It might seem foolish to state God’s Law to people who say they do not believe in God, but remember that God’s Law is written on everyone’s heart(whether they believe that or not, Rom 2:15, Heb 10:16) and we all know right from wrong because our first parents ate from that tree. Miracles still happen.

Again thank you for a great article,

Hi Doc, That is a great way to present the truth, especially admitting that we, ourselves are just as guilty an any Atheist. This approach was of course made famous by Ray Comfort and it is a tried and true approach. Thanks for sharing! Blessing to you brother.
