15 Motivational Bible Verses For Missions

by David Peach · Print Print · Email Email

The concept of crossing geographical or cultural boundaries to carry the teachings of God goes all the way back to the Old Testament. Missions didn’t start with the Great Commission, but has been a part of God’s plan since the beginning.  Take a look at what the Bible says in these 15 verses for missions.

Isaiah 6:8 “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

Kings Encouraged People to Declare the Glory of the Lord

2 Kings 17:27, 28 “Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land. Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.”

1 Chronicles 16:23, 24 Sing unto the LORD, all the earth; shew forth from day to day his salvation. Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations.”

Psalm 18:49Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.”

Psalm 96:3Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.”

Prophets Proclaimed His Name

Isaiah 43:6, 7 “I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.”

Jonah 3:1, 2And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying, Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.”

Jesus Encouraged His Disciples to Go Tell It

And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world ...

Matthew 24:14 “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”

Matthew 28:19, 20 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Mark 16:15 “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”

Acts 1:8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

The Lord Sent Paul (Saul) and Barnabas to Preach to the Gentiles

Acts 13:2, 3As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.”

Acts 13:47For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.”

Acts 20:24 “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.”

God wants His Word taken to every region of the world. We can follow Isaiah’s example in Isaiah 6:8 and volunteer for the position God is looking to fill.

Superb scriptures again to reinforce our motivation my friend. I just needed this today since we have been going out into our own mission field in our community, going door-to-door. May the Holy Spirit go before us, with us, and work after we are gone that those who have heard the gospel will have the stony heart pierced by the light of the glorious love of God in Jesus Christ.

These verses seemed very old and out of date in the KJV. Can you quote them in a more modern language too?

David Peach July 15, 2012 at 9:05 pm

Ross, thank you for your comment. What modern language would you like me to quote these in? Esperanto? 🙂

But seriously, I found a great tool for looking at verses in many translations at one time. Go to Bible.cc and put in the verse reference. You can see the verse in nearly 20 different translations at one time.

I hope that helps!

I loved this! My favorite verse “… Here I am; send me.” Isaiah 6:8
I am going on my second mission trip in June, to Guatemala! The last several months my heart hadn’t been in the right place but I am back in church regularly, using my talents/gifts for God and have turned my life back to the Lord, but wanted some tips on how to further prepare my heart for this trip. I have now ordered a journaling bible, will be beginning with some of these beautiful verses, and will then be at least be studying john, proverbs, job, and isaiah before my trip. Prayers appreciated!
