I would be hardpressed to find better Scriptures my good friend. Its interesting that this article soon followed the one on Praying for the Dying. Ironic, isn’t it…or is it? God is sovereign and the Holy Spirit works in mysterious ways.

Pam Williams October 11, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Yes I noticed that. Continuity and harmony of the Scriptures. I love it when that happens!

We just lost a close family friend this morning to a brain tumor. She was the most Christ like lady I knew. She was only 47 years old. She has been struggling with this battle for a while. She had been sleeping a lot at the end of her battle. She was reaching up and her husband asked her what she was doing. She replyed reaching for Jesus. He replied, Go to him. There was two other things like this that happened this past week. Our hearts are broken but we know she is in a better place. These verses have lifted my spirits a little bit. Thank you for sharing.

Linda September 9, 2012 at 7:47 pm

I myself went through the same. I had a brain tumor slept a lot, then slipped into a coma 35 years ago. I was not saved, it was not my time to go yet. Recently, I have been blessed and am ready to go. Since she is Christ-like, believe me she is embracing a new place. Do not be sad. Pray that you receive the grace of God as well.

I found your website via Google for Scriptures related to the loss of a loved one.

Well, I found so much more. I have now liked your FaceBook page, and will keep up to date.

May God be an encouragement to you as you serve Him; just in the way that your material encouraged and blessed me today.

I have recently lost a dear friend of my own. We had just discussed our plans for attending the fair this year and had just counted down the number of days until it would come. She passed the next day at her home. I was looking for scriptures of comfort when I found your website it has been very helpful to me because I was feeling very depressed. Thank for the scriptures of God’s Word for us during a time of sorrow. Thank you

Mark Hatley August 15, 2013 at 4:28 pm

My father is fighting cancer in his lungs, brain, liver and spine. The cancer has taken a load on him as I write this. It is very aggressive. I’m a Christian, and I talk to our Lord everyday. I’ve been trying to write a few pages about my Father, to prepare for his victory. Any suggestions you can give, would be appreciated. Ty and God Bless You!

Jack Wellman August 15, 2013 at 6:52 pm

Thank you Mr. Hatley for your comment. As for any suggestions, let me first say that not everyone is healed and God never promises to heal everyone. God alone is sovereign and His will is more important than ours. Why claim victory when we don’t know His will for your father? Let me say that you should read Psalm 37 which says we are to wait upon, trust in, rely on, rest in, and let God be God and His will be done, for His will is always best over what we think or what we want. What if you claim victory in front of others and your father and he dies? Could not this damage or undermine some people’s faith?

Paul prayed 3 times to be healed and never was, Timothy had stomach issues, one of Paul’s friends nearly died, etc. Pray for God’s will over our own and then trust God with the results and let God be God.

Shanice March 24, 2015 at 1:00 am

Greetings, Mr.Hatley may the good God that sit high and look low be with you . Let God, trust, ask him for strength. The Bible claims those that wait upon the Lord ,he shall renew their strength. Honestly, this God fearing man gave you the best suggestions ever.

Don’t know the condition of your father but I have lost my father to cancer tyhis year January .It has left an empty space in my heart what I do is remember the memories the times we spent together. Our plans are not his plans all we can do is trust him will like to hear more from you. my dad died from 4 stage colon cancer

I thank you all for the scriptures and comments. My brothers and I just lost our mom on Dec 19th. Needless to say the holidays were tough. We know she’s resting with the LORD. We’ll miss her dearly. We’re all grown but that is our mama. I was the only girl with five brothers. My mom was my friend. We talked everyday. Please say a prayer for us.

Whenu Grandmother passed away 2 years ago this month the verse from Revelations for me through the one about His being withbhisnpeople and them with God that there will be no more sorrow crying pain bevausebrhe old order of things are gone I know reuse aren’t the words and I am working on memorizing it because oit is a favorite of mine it comforted me. I remember looking into her eyes and seeing the pain she was relying to hide and the week before she died which was unexpected she told us she was tired of course we said get some sleep Gram and she said no I’m tired she flew down hill after that she used to say she wouldn’t go until she knew we would be OK she was o. Hospice for twenty years she had a cancer that ate at her organs and eventually went to her brain the night of her death I had to say goodbye 5 times because it never dealt right after reading that verse I told here it was OK she could to and it bothered me when others were begging her to hold on I wanted her to led go not because I wanted her gone if I could have my gram I would be thrilled but because I wanted here to be with the God she lived so much to be happy and healthy and ground and to be waiting for all of us I know I will see her again. My brother is 34 he’s blind and has the kind of a 4 year old when she was taking her last breaths he started laughing and said Gram go with the angels they’re waiting for you my Gram looked up and my Mom and sister said she smiled and passed right then I had to leave before she passed I wouldn’t have been able to handle seeing that but I know it was God yelling me to make sure I said goodbye that’s why I had to go back 5 timed I had to say everything I needed to because I could feel it would be my last chance I wish I would have seen this site then though that 1 verse helped me so much I feel even more comforted with all these added Imiss her everyday and I wish I would have known these things when I lost my Palo and then my best friend 2 years later he was only 20 he had leukemia I took those deaths extremely hard and when my uncle passed unexpectedly in his sleep a year ago leaving 5 young children and a wife I handled it better and could comfort my fsmily my uncle knew God was calling him he had marked verses in his bible that were about that very thing those were all that were marked so I believe God was telling him he was laid off from work so his last 6 months if life were spent as a stay at home Dad so God gave him that time I can’t wait to see them all again

I am writing a play currently that requires scripture for a funeral scene. This article was very helpful. Maybe you could add Psalm 23 to your article! Thanks again!

Shanice March 24, 2015 at 12:54 am

Can I act out a character that sing in your play when your finish.

Rene' March 24, 2015 at 10:46 pm

I was asked to read a scripture at a loved one’s funeral and stumbled upon this site. This was very helpful and meets my needs. Thank you.

Martha Ellen April 1, 2015 at 9:34 am

How does one comfort someone who has lost an unborn baby? The scriptures on your site have helped me to find a few words to write to a young wife who just miscarried. We can say that the baby was ‘born into Heaven.’ Do you know of a book that might give this young couple comfort in knowing that their preborn baby waits for them in Heaven? They are devout Christians. Thank you again for this site.

Jack Wellman April 1, 2015 at 10:34 am

Thank you Mrs. Ellen for your kind-hearted desire to help such grieving parents. Here is a small, inexpensive book called “Do Babies Go to Heaven?” at this link: http://www.amazon.com/Do-Babies-Go-Heaven-Suffering/dp/1449947522

Chris October 23, 2015 at 9:14 am

Chester August 27, 2017 at 4:27 pm

I would like to know whether women are allowed to preach the word of God.

Jack Wellman August 27, 2017 at 5:39 pm

Hello Chester. Please read this to find your answer but it’s also found in 1 Tim 3 and Titus 1. https://www.whatchristianswanttoknow.com/should-women-be-pastors-or-elders-of-a-church-a-bible-study/

Denver March 5, 2019 at 2:01 pm

1 tim 3 is talking about qualities that must be found in church leaders eg bishops ,elders ,deacons etc its not inline with the preaching of women

Jack Wellman March 5, 2019 at 2:27 pm

Hello Denver and thank you for your comment. It is “not inline with the preaching of women” because it the Bible does not allow a woman to preach. Only a deaconess is an office for a woman in the church, although we know that the older women are told to teach the younger women. First Tim 3 is specific about why women are not to preach, so it is inline with Scriptures over church leaders.
