Two little eyes to look to God,
Two little ears to hear His word
Two little feet to walk His way
Hands to serve Him all my days

One little tongue to speak His truth
one little heart for Him in youth
Take them Oh, Jesus let them be
always willing. true to Thee

Thank you for these lyrics. 50 years ago, my mother and aunt were choir directors for the children’s ministry at our church. We sang so many wonderful songs, some of them mentioned above. She now is 88 and in a nursing home with dementia and is unable to remember many things. We’ve been singing all these children songs together and she remembers many of them and can sing along, what a blessing. Simple songs with deep truth an bringing blessings to those who are young and old.

Are these songs public domain?

Jack Wellman March 26, 2019 at 12:29 pm

Hello Linda. Here is a complete list of songs on public domain, many of which are “author unknown” at: http://www.hymnsuntogod.org/Hymns-PD/ZZ-CompletePDHymnList.html

Is there sheet music or video examples of some of these songs?
I am familiar with most of the songs, but there are several that I do not know. It would be helpful to have access to some for of sheet music for our church. Thank you.

Thanks for these, saved me retyping all those lyrics for VBS, and jogged my memory for a couple of favorites!

I believe “Michael” in “Michael, row the boat ashore” is Michael the Archangel.

Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.
Greater than lions & tigers & bears or anything satan can throw….
Can you help me please?
Thank you & God Bless!!

Jack Wellman September 22, 2019 at 12:19 pm

Greater is He that is in me

Greater is He that is in me
F7 Gm/Bb
Greater is He that is in me

Than He that is in the world
Verse 1:
Bb C7 F
Satan’s like a roaring lion roaming too and fro
Bb C7 F
Seeking whom he may devour, the Bible tells me so
F7 Gm C7 F
Many souls have been his prey to fall in some weak hour
F7 Gm C7 F
But God has promised us today, His overcoming power
F Bb
Greater is He that is in me
C7 F
Greater is He that is in me
F7 Gm/Bb
Greater is He that is in me
C7 F
Than He that is in the world
Verse 2:
Bb C7 F
On the day of Pentecost, a rushing mighty wind
Bb C7 F
Blew into the upper room and baptized all of them
F7 Gm C7 F
With a power greater than, any earthly foe
F7 Gm C7 F
And I’m so glad I’ve got it too, I’ll let the whole world know

Just in time! The Youth Choir Director wants me to do a teaching in music. The children will begin by singing “Tell Me The Stories of Jesus” And I am planning to respond with a story of Jesus in song. Some of these songs I sang in the Children’s home on Summit Ave in Fort Worth. But I had forgotten some of the names. This is a great column here and I appreciate it very much

During this COVID season, we are teaching our preschoolers by making our own you tube video lessons. We would like to sing music but can only use songs which are in the public domain (before 1925) unless I can get permission from the original writer/composer. I would love to have some current simple songs for little ones without having to make them up by using the tunes of Mary had a little lamb etc. To date, God has not given me the gift of writing children’s music to provide for free, which I would love to do! Any suggestions for finding such songs? Thank you in advance.

Stephen Wickline July 6, 2021 at 9:30 am

Trying to find lyrics to a children’s song I heard years ago. I remember “Can it be, can it be, Gods own son who died for me” or something close to that.I would appreciate any information. Thank you

Jack Wellman July 6, 2021 at 10:44 am

Hello Mr. Wickline. I believe it is called “And Can it Be” written by Charles Wesley at: https://pastorhistorian.com/2010/10/07/and-can-it-be-a-theological-and-devotional-analysis/

Barbara Berwick September 9, 2021 at 8:09 pm

thank you. I know many of the actions songs for the younger children, but was looking for some for high school age children and you gave me a few ideas. Another one that is good for that age is Hallelu, Hallelu, Hallelu, Hallelujah,Praise ye the Lord, making them stand when they sing and dividing the group into two parts, one singing the hallelu and the other singing the Praise ye the Lord part
