I always enjoy the song lists you put together Pam and this is another great one! I really enjoyed listening to the Revelation Song in the video above.

Pamela Rose Williams June 20, 2012 at 9:06 am

So happy you enjoyed. That is one of my favorite artists, introduced to me by my Candi. I often listen to Kari’s Pandora’s channel.

Kim January 12, 2019 at 11:43 am

Jenny Riddle write Revelation Song not Kari Jobe.

Jack Wellman January 12, 2019 at 11:47 am

I love the song “When we all get to heaven”

Sing the wondrous love of Jesus,
Sing His mercy and His grace;
In the mansions bright and blessed
He’ll prepare for us a place.
Refrain:
When we all get to heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!
While we walk the pilgrim pathway,
Clouds will overspread the sky;
But when trav’ling days are over,
Not a shadow, not a sigh.
Let us then be true and faithful,
Trusting, serving every day;
Just one glimpse of Him in glory
Will the toils of life repay.
Onward to the prize before us!
Soon His beauty we’ll behold;
Soon the pearly gates will open;
We shall tread the streets of gold.

And I always will love What A Beautiful Day by the Happy Goodmans

Save a Place for me, by Matthew West. This song is one I stumbled upon this past Friday, the day my grandma passed away. It was so fitting, my mom & aunts decided it would be a perfect fit during the funeral. Thanks for your posts!

Pamela Rose Williams June 20, 2012 at 9:07 am

Dan Baker July 29, 2013 at 6:12 am

One of my favorite songs about heaven is the song
What a Day That Will Be

Here are the lyrics as I learned them

There is coming a day, where no heartaches shall rise
No more clouds in the sky, no more tears to dim the eye.
All is peace forevermore, on that happy golden shore,
What a day, glorious day, that will be!

Chorus
What a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see
When I look upon His face, the One who saved me by His grace,
When He takes me by the hand, and leads me through the promised land,
what a day, glorious day, that will be!

There’ll be no sorrow there, no more burdens to bear
No more sickness, no pain, no more parting over there
And forever I will be with the One who died for me,
What a day, glorious day, that will be!

Chorus

Lori April 1, 2017 at 11:36 pm

Thank you so much for posting that song. Beautiful and so full of hope.

Steve October 21, 2014 at 11:32 pm

Wow, this was a blessing to me – your list and thoughts and also the comments and the additional songs mentioned by those commenting. I have been crying literal tears of joy and hope as I have been reminded of and have been singing in my heart and mind many of these songs I had not heard or even thought of in so many years. Thank you.

Allow me to add: “This World is Not My Home” and “Across the Bridge,” two very old southern gospel standards with powerful messages of hope and truth.

I’m ready! And I wouldn’t mind having every last one of these songs sung at my funeral. And if my children in God’s mercy can find these truths not only in their minds but in their hearts, I will leave this earth a truly happy man.

JP January 30, 2015 at 9:57 am

My list is short but will grow…This is a list that’s more geared towards looking forward to heaven.

Newsboys – I would Give Everything
Switchfoot – Where I Belong
U2 – Where the Streets Have No Name
Lifehouse – Flight

When I get Home

Jojo August 5, 2015 at 4:48 pm

Hello. My favourite worship song is this one by Phatfish, a UK group. It’s very upbeat and the lyrics are sound biblical truths

There is a day
That all creation’s waiting for,
A day of freedom and liberation for the earth.
And on that day
The Lord will come to meet His bride,
And when we see Him
In an instant we’ll be changed

The trumpet sounds
And the dead will then be raised
By His power,
Never to perish again.
Once only flesh,
Now clothed with immortality,
Death has now been
Swallowed up in victory

We will meet Him in the air
And then we will be like Him
For we will see Him, as He is
Oh yeah!
Then all hurt and pain will cease
And we’lll be with Him forever
And in His glory we will live
Oh yeah! Oh yeah!

So lift your eyes
To the things as yet unseen,
That will remain now
For all eternity.
Though trouble’s hard,
It’s only momentary
And it’s acheiving
Our future glory

Pamela Rose Williams August 5, 2015 at 6:13 pm

Nice one Jojo… My favorite verse is the last:
“So lift your eyes
To the things as yet unseen,
That will remain now
For all eternity.
Though trouble’s hard,
It’s only momentary
And it’s acheiving
Our future glory”

Thanks for sharing!

Lyrics for the song – Oh Sing Me a Song of Heaven

shadley January 4, 2016 at 12:37 am

Hi all

I am looking for the song
Heaven is my destiny, a place I wanna be…..
Could anyone help please?

Gillian April 8, 2016 at 4:32 pm

Todd Agnew – Martyr’s song!

I’ve been waiting to dance with you
In fields full of colors you’ve never seen
And I’ve been waiting to show you beauty
You’d never dreamed that’s always been in you

I’ve been waiting to see you tremble as you’re embraced
By a world saturated with my love
I’ve been waiting for the day when at last I get to say
My child you are finally home

Sing, O son of Zion
Shout, O child of mine
Rejoice with all your heart and soul and mind
For you are finally home

Nick Embaye March 26, 2017 at 12:00 pm

This is from the early days of contemporary christian music. when I say early I mean the early 70s to 1980s. I don’t remember the artist. At least part of it is from Psalms 119 and it’s kind of a lullaby:

His word is a lamp unto my feet, a light upon my way
and I do well to pay it heed until the final day
until the day dawns and the morning star
rises in your heart
Take this lamp and light your way
To your eternal home.

Lori April 1, 2017 at 11:33 pm

Kari Jobe did not write Revelation Song, a gal named Jamie Lee Riddle. Here’s a wonderful interview where she talks about how she came to write it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMjre5yE9nY

She and Kari Jobe are friends. Kari Jobe really put it on the map and our hearts when she began to sing it. Love this article. God’s glory surely shines in hymns and songs about Himself.

Mike Moore October 13, 2017 at 12:34 pm

Great selection of “Heavenly Hymns”! And tremendous explanation of their placing! I must agree with their placing, even though traditional hymns and southern gospel are my best preferences for gospel songs. Great work, sister in the Lord!

Deb December 15, 2017 at 3:09 pm

I don’t see “Home Where I Belong”, sung by B.J. Thomas. One of my favorites.

Jason February 5, 2018 at 10:17 am

We Will Dance, We’re Marching to Zion and Shall We Gather at the River are some of my favorites. Also On the Other Side is a nice song about Heaven even though it not congregation friendly to sing.

Pamela Rose Williams February 6, 2018 at 11:56 am

Thanks for sharing Jason — I love Shall We Gather at the River.

Lynette March 19, 2018 at 1:35 pm

I would like to add the song “How Beautiful Heaven Must Be”.
It has a lovely melody, easy to sing and full of hope.

Luxolo Mnja December 24, 2018 at 6:26 pm

I also love the song ‘ Heaven’s sounding sweeter all the time’ by The Deweys
And also the following
‘Set another place at the table’
‘I’ve never been this homesick before’

Sherry January 19, 2019 at 11:27 am

I’ll Fly Away
Some glad morning when this life is over,
I’ll fly away.
To a home on God’s celestial shore,
I’ll fly away.I’ll fly away, O Glory,
I’ll fly away. (In the morning)
When I die, Hallelujah, bye and bye,
I’ll fly away. When the shadows of this life are gone,
I’ll fly away.
Like a bird from prison bars has flown
I’ll fly away.

Linda C Wood February 26, 2019 at 7:16 am

I have been searching for a beautiful song, but cannot find it anywhere. I don’t know the name but it had a chorus of I’m just crossing Jordan, I’m just going home. If you know this song, please let me know. Thank you and God bless.

Jack Wellman February 26, 2019 at 9:44 am

Hello Linda. Could this song be “Im Gonna Cross the River Jordan?” Otherwise, I tried but could not help you.

Hannah August 10, 2019 at 7:03 pm

Could you mean “I am Bound for the Promised land”?

It starts:
On Jordan’s stormy banks I stand
And cast a wishful eye
At Canaans fair and happy land
Where my possessions lie

Chorus:
I am bound
I am bound
I am bound for the promised land

Madison Hall March 3, 2019 at 11:57 am

I love all these songs because I 1,000,000% believe in God.

There is a song on christian radio 88.7. Has lyrics where he sings your in heaven but I have your heart. What is the name of the song and who sings it.?

Anita August 24, 2020 at 12:48 am

Thank you for this list!! I am planning a theme about heaven being our real home for my classroom this year – this is very helpful in trying to choose a theme song. It’s a hard task because there are so many “best” songs!!
