What Makes Jesus So Different From Other Religious Leaders?

What makes Jesus so different from all the other religious leaders in history? Where you spend eternity depends on you knowing the difference.

His Resurrection

Is there really any evidence for Jesus Christ’s resurrection? Paul says the gospel is “of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep” (1 Cor 15:3-6). Paul saw that with no resurrection, there is no hope for us and there is no gospel, but we know indeed, He was raised! Josephus was a Jewish historian, not a Christian, but he recorded the fact that in the whole of Judea and Samaria, there were several hundred eye witnesses who saw Jesus before and after His crucifixion, death, and resurrection. Josephus wrote, “At this time there was a wise man who was called Jesus. And his conduct was good, and he was known to be virtuous. And many people from among the Jews and the other nations became his disciples. Pilate condemned him to be crucified and to die. And those who had become his disciples did not abandon his discipleship. They reported that he had appeared to them after his crucifixion and that he was alive; accordingly, he was perhaps the Messiah concerning whom the prophets have recounted wonders.” [1]

Most people would live for a lie, but few would die for one, so the death of the apostles by being martyred for their faith is evidence that they believed in Jesus’ resurrection. If they knew it was a lie, then why would they suffer and die for it? It doesn’t make sense. The apostles were crucified, beheaded, tortured, stoned to death, some hacked to death, so we ask again, would people live, suffer, and die for something they knew was a lie? I wouldn’t. Would you?

His Way

Who is Jesus? Maybe you’ve been asked that question before, so how is He different from other religious leaders like Mohammed, Buddha, or Confucius? One thing I found out was that Jesus was fully Man, but yet fully God. The Bible says that Jesus “was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1), but before He was born into human flesh, He was with God, even before anything was created (John 1:2).

Mohammed, Buddha, or Confucius may have spoken some truth, but Jesus is the only One Who said “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Mohammed, Buddha, or Confucius never claimed to be “truth” or to be the way to heaven. Jesus alone claims that He is the only way to the Father in heaven.

Finally, Jesus said, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30). Mohammed, Buddha, or Confucius never claimed to be one with the Father or one with God, so Jesus is different because He is both God and Man, and He is the only way to the Father. There is no one else that can make that claim or take you to heaven…no one!

His Calling

Jesus is God and God is omnipresent, or present everywhere. And He can reach people anywhere, and sometimes He uses a vision or a dream. From my own experience, I have heard many who have had dreams and had visions of Jesus Christ, but what does it mean? Is Jesus trying to reach them by the only means possible?

First of all, dreams and visions of Jesus don’t save anyone. It takes the Spirit of God and with the Word of God to make a child of God, but God may use dreams or visions to draw people to Jesus Chris and He may have to because the Bible is forbidden in so many countries.

Of all the people who had dreams about Jesus, including Muslims, and Muslims who converted to Christianity, there are three things that stand out. When they have a dream or vision of Jesus, there is always a light or a brightness of His countenance. They say it’s like a soft but powerful light, almost too bright to look at. Interestingly, they all say they know it is Jesus even without knowing Him or the Bible. They can’t even explain why they know it’s Him, but they just know. Finally, there is an overwhelming feeling of love and acceptance…and it’s almost as if Jesus is asking them to come to Him. So these three things are almost always found in dreams or visions of Jesus; light, love, and His invitation to come to Him.

His Spirit

The Bible says that in the last days, “it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions” (Joel 2:28), and this has come true for many in these latter days. People are seeing visions or dreaming dreams about Jesus, and they’re seeing Him in places where there are few churches and Bibles. I believe this shows God will move heaven and earth to reach one lost sinner who wants to be saved.

God doesn’t want anyone to die in their sins. It is His will that all people repent and believe (2 Pet 3:8-9), including former Muslims, Buddhists, or any other religion. Today is the day of salvation (2 Cor 6:2) because tomorrow may be too late, and after death, it’s judgment time before God (Heb 9:27). God is patiently waiting for sinners to be saved (is that you?) and to come and worship Him (John 4:24), and if He has to use dreams or visions to do it, He will. I really believe He still is using dreams and visions to seek and to save those who will perish apart from Christ. Is He seeking you today?

.

Conclusion

You may be reading this for a purpose. Maybe you’ve decided to confess your sins, put your trust in Jesus Christ, and acknowledge that He is the only way to the Father. Jesus alone claims to be the only way to heaven (Acts 4:12); not Mohammed, Buddha, or Confucius…only Jesus. All these other men have lived and died, but only Jesus died and lives forever. He is not one of many ways…but the only way to the Father. Jesus is unique because He is the only way to the Father. There is no other. There are not many paths to God. There are only two paths to God; one through Jesus Christ and eternal life, the other to the Great White Throne Judgment (Rev 20:12-15), but that path is the one you don’t want. Put your trust in Christ today, while we can still call it “today” (2 Cor 6:2).
