As beautiful as the New Testament is, the Old Testament brings the teachings of Christ Jesus to life. The Old Testament is about God’s love for us, the New Testament is just the conclusion and afterword.

Derek Hill February 5, 2013 at 2:31 pm

The NT isn’t just a conclusion, it is the fulfillment of the OT. Without the NT there would be many prophesies left unfulfilled. The NT shows God’s love even more, by Him sending Christ down for us to be the redeemer of our souls through His crucifixion. Both parts, the OT and NT are equally important because they both exist together and confirm one another.

I like the old testament because:
It marks the beginning
Establishment of a family (exodus)
And important virtues from the early Prophets

Derek Hill February 5, 2013 at 2:34 pm

Amen Godlove! I couldn’t agree more. The beginning of creation and the family are great to read and learn about. The OT has many great teachings in it and I know I have learned much through reading it. God bless!

Lately, God has put in my heart the desire to read the Old Testament! God Bless!:)
Many of us think or say at times that the Old Testament is not important, and I know that even one single page of the Bible is enough to save a soul, God can do that! We serve an awesome God! 😀

Derek Hill February 5, 2013 at 2:39 pm

Amen Mabel! The OT is just as important as the NT. They go hand-in-hand with each other. If the Bible were missing either section, it would be incomplete and would have many gaps and flaws. We do serve an awesome God! Thank you for your encouraging words. God bless!

Amen Derek. The fact that Jesus, Paul, and the other apostles quoted the Old Testament is reason enough for me to believe that the Old Testament is relevant today as as Paul wrote, “2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Thank you for this reminder for “rightly dividing the Word of truth” (2 Tim 2:15) is not dividing the Old from the New Testament as I have heard but means to use it properly. Well done as always sir.

Derek Hill February 5, 2013 at 2:44 pm

Thank you Jack. The OT shouldn’t be a division from the NT. They work together to showcase the love of God. God bless you brother!

Hello Derek,
You wrote a very good article about the importance of “The Old Testament” for the Christian Faith. I would like to add that everything found in the “New” testament is entirely based on the “Old” Scriptures, and anyone who confesses to believe in Jesus needs to recognize, He and all of His disciples were Jewish. All Christians today are grafted into those promises and covenants made with the Jewish people, without whom, there would not be a Saviour who through His sinless life based on the “Old” testament continues to give us the example of how to live, love, honor and obey His and our Beloved Father. Imagine what will happen we we truly decide to live lives that may seem peculiar to most, but entirely in the fulness of the example Jesus set. Blessings to you.

Derek Hill February 11, 2013 at 6:16 pm

Thank you Lois. You are correct. Without the Old Testament, the New Testament would not make sense. All of the prophecies that were fulfilled in the New Testament completely confirm the accuracy of the Old Testament. I like how you said that, “All Christians today are grafted into those promises and covenants made with the Jewish people.” This is so true and we get a great glimpse of it in the New Testament as the gospel was preached to the Greeks and Gentiles abroad. Wonderful insights Lois! God bless!
