I am puzzled by one thing in your article. Are you saying that Philip the apostle and Philip the evangelist are the same person?
Are they not 2 separate people?
I read Acts 6:2-3 and it says the 12 apostles (which I would assume includes the apostle Philip) summoned the multitude of the disciples and they ask them to choose 7 men…
Acts 6:5 says one of the 7 chosen was a man named Philip (the evangelist).
I always believed that Acts 8 (when it refers to Philip in Samaria) was referring to Philip the evangelist not the apostle.

I agree with you Chad P. I also noticed that there are two Philips. Acts says the 12 called together all the followers of Christ and told them to pick 7 for serving, but the 12 would be left to pray and preach.

I affirm the remarks of the other two comments. There are two different Philips mentioned in the New Testament. Philip who was an Apostle (1 of the 12) and another man who was name Philip that was called to be a Deacon and sometime after became a traveling Evangelist in the region.

Death of philip

I see others have already pointed out that this article is inaccurate. Philip the Evangelist is very often confused with Philip the disciple of Christ. I did not finish reading the article, because I found other issues of inaccuracy, such as, saying Philip “found Christ”. Philip is the ONLY disciple that CHRIST SOUGHT and found. See John 1:43. This is a perfect example of being cautious of where we get our information. The more you learn & understand your Bible, the easier it will be to detect false information.

Hello Angela. The fact is that none of us sought Christ but He sought us all out. We could not have sought anyone but the world (Rom 3:10-12), so you are wrong, Philip was not the only disciple that Christ sought. You did not seek Him; He sought you and the same with all of us, including the disciples. For example, Simon and Andrew, “And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him” (Mark 1:17-18). Then “And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him” (Matt 4:21-22). So you see you are absolutely wrong. Philip was NOT the only disciple sought out by Christ….they ALL were. Study this better and you’ll see your error. I think it’s unfair to not read the entire article and then criticize the content. Not fair at all.

My question is whether the Philip that preached to the Samaritians (Acts 8:5) is the apostle Philip or the evangelist Philip. I noted that Peter & John had to come to Samaria & pray for the converts at Samaria that they might receive the Holy Spirit for they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord.

I do not believe that the Apostle Philip and the evangelist Philip are the same person, otherwise, they would have called him the Apostle Philip and not Philip the evangelist.
