A much needed article Pam. I believe a way to keep respect alive is to show respect to others. When we respect others this may encourage others to do the same. As always, superbly done my friend.

Pam Williams December 25, 2011 at 9:11 am

Good advice Jack. Thank you for that

Jeydey December 25, 2011 at 10:09 am

Some people have forgotten the meaning of respect.

Tendai Pfidze February 10, 2012 at 6:13 am

this is very helpful. we are currently having a problem of respect with our youth at church

Pam February 10, 2012 at 10:51 am

Oh Tendai Pfidze, I am sorry to hear of this in your church. Take the advice of my friend Pastor Jack (above), respect begins with you. Be the light and show your brothers and sisters how to be respectful by the way you respect them. Thanks for taking the time to leave your words of encouragement here. I pray you come back and visit often.

My youth group is also having this problem. We have recently started doing student run Wendsday nights. Where the students are in groups that take turns, picking a topic and teaching the lesson. This is really hard though, due to a lack of respect for the students who are in charge that week. So my group is going to teach on respect. Thanks for the verses. I’ll show them to my group.

Diana, Great subject for study. I am happy that you found some help from this article. All glory to God!

Alexander September 20, 2012 at 2:54 am

This helped so much. As the two above mentioned my youth at church have been very disrespectful to the leaders and members of my church. I have been trying to find right verses to teach them and all I could come up with is Exodus 20:12. Thank you for listing them. Pray that this opens their eyes. I pray blessings upon you and your husband.
Through God’s love,
Your brother Alexander

I’m very grateful about yr article. I think respect is the mother of discipline & its seeds should be sowed into children early

Raquel November 2, 2012 at 6:42 pm

Pam,
Thanks for the quick reference versus, they came in handy. I too am having some challenges with my two young daughters, as they continually disrespect each other in speech and towards me, when things don’t go their way. My heart aches and I pray to my Lord for wisdom and I try to lead by example. Any prayers and suggestions would be welcomed.
In Christ.

A roman 13:2 of the Holly Bible says the following:–> Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.

During my childhood, I read the Bible often. When I was a child I was taught to respect my parents, elders, women and so on. But nobody taught me to respect authorities.
In fact in ancient times, a person can be a king if he will be devoted to God. These kinds of kings can nominate spiritual authorities and we are forced to respect them. Such authorities can’t exploit and steal the population. But looking the reality now, should we have to respect our authorities who are oppressing the whole community and are killing millions without any reason? Is it possible to say that authorities of our era are assigned by our almighty God?

Dennis July 10, 2013 at 12:07 am

While I can see where you’re coming from, I have police officer friends, among other forms of public auhoriy figures I’m happy to be affiliated with, and the likelyhood that any of the three previously mentioned officers actually taking a life is apparently, and surprisingly slim, and if any government or orginization were killing “millions without reason” someone would notice and do something. Including me, should I be anywhere within possible reach of said atrocity, God places every authority figure in your life for a reason, so please stop egging the cruisers, we know you hate getting traffic tickets, but if everyone started parking in front of fire hydrants, we would have a lot more houses burnt to the ground.

Thanks for the great article! I go to a Christian school, and I’m supposed to write an essay on respect, and I wanted to include some Bible verses, so this helped a lot!

Thank you for the article. I am a pastor’s wife and I do the weekly church bulletin. We are blessed to have many new members in our church and are thankful to them all.
Last Sunday one of our elders brought his grandson who spent the whole church service with headphones on. This is very disrespectful and upset a number of our congregation.
Our new congregation president pulled me aside and asked me to address this in the bulletin. This is a tough one for me. I dont know what to say or how to say it as not to upset the elder in question. He is a good and honest man who does alot for the church. Any ideas?

Thank you very much for all these quotes ; respect regarding others is the root basis of knowledge and is equivalent to the true respect regarding God or Jesus.

Where in the bible can I find Adam first wife name Lilth?
Where in the bible can I find a woman must respect a man?

Jack Wellman August 26, 2013 at 7:04 pm

Thank you sir for your question but Adam’s first wife was Eve, wasn’t it. It was in Genesis 2 and 3. Who is Lilth? I have not heard that name.

As for a woman must respect a man it is not that a woman must respect a man but a wife must respect her husband but even a greater demand is that the husband must love his wife like Christ loved the church, giving his life for it. That is harder for the husband but it is not written anywhere that a woman must respect a man, although men should respect women and women should respect men but a WIFE should respect her HUSBAND, and not so much any other man. This is found in Ephesians 5 but it also says that we are to “submit to ONE ANOTHER” not just the wife to her husband or a woman to a man. “a woman must respect a man” is not in the Bible.

Kathy June 7, 2014 at 6:52 pm

When I stated on Facebook one day that I wished parents would instill in their children to be respectful and grateful, I was answered by a Christian lady. Her answer was that people didn’t deserve respect, they should have to earn it. My reply was that people should be deserving of respect, but most of the time don’t receive it anyway:( I love this article! Thank you very much for proving to me, unquestioningly, that it is not just good manners, but Biblical:)

Pamela Rose Williams June 9, 2014 at 5:44 pm

Hi Kathy, So happy to have cleared that up for you. Blessings!
