Hi Pam, I liked this article you wrote. I appreciate your emphasis on teaching children obedience not just for now but because it’s a quality they will need for the rest of their lives. Thanks. –Dr. Scott Turansky, National Center for Biblical Parenting
Hi Dr. T, Thanks for taking the time to leave your words of encouragement. AMEN! Obedience is for a lifetime.
This was very helpful. Thank you for sharing the incorruptable word of God.
Dear Nancy, I am so glad that this simple article was helpful to you. I am honored to share the incorruptible word of God, it is free and should be given freely as well. Thanks for taking the time to leave your comment here at WCWTK. Blessings!
Hi!
Thanks for the verses! I thought it was interesting to observe, in looking through them, that God commands that we do things, but He never directly says, “Obey me.” Oswald Chambers comes the closest to saying that – which is why human authors sometimes fall short. God does speak of the blessings of obeying and the “cursings” for not obeying, but seems to want our obedience to come from a loving response, not from direct insistence. Makes me realize that my repeated use of the words, “Obey me,” to my daughter, is the not the most Godly way to handle her.
Hi Rick … however, the word of God does say “children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right” (Eph 6:1). According to the Bible it is not unreasonable at all that you should expect this and also teach it to your daughter. Not because you say so … because God’s word says so.
I believe your reference of Matthew 9:13 is incorrect. Matthew 9:13 (NIV) says “But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” The Scripture you quoted “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” is John 14:15 (NASB).
Hi Rachel M.
Thank you for this — I have corrected the reference above. You see that is why we all need to study to show ourselves approved because sometimes human errors can mislead. So sorry for the error but happy you caught it!
Also, I think you quoted John 14:15 instead of 15:14 .
But 15:14 is an obedience scripture too.
Also, Ecclesastastess 12:13 sums it up well.
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Pam, your article is very fantastic. May God enrich you and the family.
When are you no longer a Child to bey your parents? why Does it specify children in “children obey your partnets” and not in “honour your mother and father”?
God bless u mom
God iss good!
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME INFORMATION!!!!
A question: what are the consequences for a Christian who does not obey all God commands, or fails in one of His ordained responsibilities? How does one balance or harmonize obedience with grace and mercy?
for god sakes, i’m willing to meet a friend who lives few blocks from me and we are living at the same street, however, we didn’t have any chances to meet, we each other wish to be friends with each other. i’m praying for GOD to assist us that with a chance, we could meet with some situation going on. and i hope things could go well. having one more friend is better than having one more enemy. I wish we could meet, for hanging out with fun at all. Thanks, our mighty God.
Hello,
I received much information on this subject of Obedience and will be using some of the verses stated above (in the correct way)(KJV) to preach my sermon and seemed to really enjoy the extra help. Maybe next time use the KJV verses being it is gods only true word and all others are non holy due to tampering with and missing verses. Thank you again.
Hi all, Pam thanks for the word. I wanted to leave a word of encouragement to whoever struggling with obeying GOD. Be faithful in small things, like when GOD is telling you to wake up early 4am and pray. There are blessings waiting. Be ready to follow the HOLY SPIRIT, because He knows better and you can trust Him eyes close.
I don’t believe that KJV was spoken/written. There were several languages spoken/written before the
KJV???
Hello Walter. Yes, this was the way they spoke in the 15th and 16th centuries when King James commissioned the Bible. It’s the only language they knew. What was spoken before was for some, Celtic, some French, but English has been around for centuries. Shakespeare’s works show you that the language he wrote in and spoke in was what the King James Bible was written in. Does this help Walter?
The word obey is not used in the verse Deuteronomy 12:32 but it is another verse about obeying God’s commandments.
