Bible Verses About End Times: 22 Revealing Scriptures

by Daryl Evans · Print Print · Email Email

Many people are fascinated with thinking and studying about the end times.  The study of Eschatology (or study of end times) is a very large subject. Deep down inside all of us we long to know what is next or what happens after this life.  If you have ever attended a funeral service for anyone you probably asked yourself this question.  In fact, contemplation of what happens after this life will often lead someone to search their own faith and belief system.  For me, it led to making a decision to follow Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord.  He is the only answer that makes any sense in my mind.  The Bible tells us much about not only Jesus but how this world will one day end.  This topic is very large but I wanted to give 22 Scripture passages that will get you started in searching for answers about the end of times.  Some major terms like judgment, tribulation, abomination that leads to desolation, the rapture (or to be “caught up” according to Thessalonians), and the millennium are terms that quickly come to the forefront.  The following passages will give you some of the major passages and events that will occur one day.

Bible Verses About Major Events During the Millennium

75 Days Between Tribulation and Millennium

According to Daniel 12.11-12, there will be a period of 75 days after the end of the tribulation during which time judgments of the antichrist, false prophet, and the Gentiles will take place (Matthew 25.31-46).

Daniel 12:11-13 And from the time that the regular burnt offering is taken away and the abomination that makes desolate is set up, there shall be 1,290 days.  Blessed is he who waits and arrives at the 1,335 days. But go your way till the end.  And you shall rest and shall stand in your allotted place at the end of the days.

Matthew 25:31-34 When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you  who are blessed by my Father,  inherit  the kingdom  prepared for you  from the foundation of the world.

1 Corinthians 15:20-24 But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.

The Binding of Satan

My prayer is that we study about the end times in such a way that it gives us a deeper passion for the people that do not know and are not following Jesus.

My prayer is that we study about the end times in such a way that it gives us a deeper passion for the people that do not know and are not following Jesus.

Revelation 20:1-3 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain. And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while.

The Final Restoration of Israel

Regeneration:

Jeremiah 31:31-34 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the LORD.  For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD:  I will put my law within them, and I will write it  on their hearts.  And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

Regathering:

Isaiah 11:11-12:6 In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains of his people,  from Assyria,  from Egypt, from Pathros, from  Cush,  from Elam, from  Shinar, from Hamath, and from  the coastlands of the sea. He will raise  a signal for the nations  and will assemble  the banished of Israel,  and gather the dispersed of Judah  from the four corners of the earth. The jealousy of Ephraim shall depart, and those who harass Judah shall be cut off; Ephraim shall not be jealous of Judah, and Judah shall not harass Ephraim.  But they shall swoop down on the shoulder of the Philistines in the west, and together they shall plunder the people of the east.   They shall put out their hand against Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites shall obey them. And the LORD will utterly destroy the tongue of the Sea of Egypt, and will wave his hand over  the River  with his scorching breath,  and strike it into seven channels, and he will lead people across in sandals. 16 And there will be a highway from Assyria for the remnant that remains of his people, as there was for Israel when they came up from the land of Egypt. You will say in that day: “I will give thanks to you, O LORD, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away,  that you might comfort me. “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.  And you will say in that day:  “Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name,  make known his deeds among the peoples,  proclaim  that his name is exalted. “Sing praises to the LORD, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth. Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.”

Matthew 24:31 And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from  the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Possession of the Land:

Ezekiel 20:42-44  And you shall know that I am the LORD, when I bring you into the land of Israel, the country that  I swore to give to your fathers. And there you shall remember your ways and all your deeds with which you have defiled yourselves,  and you shall loathe yourselves for all the evils that you have committed. And you shall know that I am the LORD, when I deal with you for my name’s sake, not according to your evil ways, nor according to your corrupt deeds, O house of Israel, declares the Lord GOD.

Reestablishment of the Davidic Throne:

2 Samuel 7:11-16  from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the LORD declares to you that the LORD will make you a house. When your days are fulfilled and  you lie down with your fathers,  I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.  He shall build a house for my name, and  I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.  I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men,  but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.

1 Chronicles 17:10-14 from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I declare to you that the LORD will build you a house. When your days are fulfilled to walk with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.  I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from him who was before you, but I will confirm him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne shall be established forever.

The Righteous Reign of Jesus:

Isaiah 2:3-4  Many peoples shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,  to the house of the God of Jacob,   that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.”   For out of Zion shall go the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations,   and shall decide disputes for many peoples;  and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.

Isaiah 11:2-5  And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him,   the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.  And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD.  He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear,  but  with righteousness he shall judge the poor,  and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;  and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips  he shall kill the wicked. Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist,  and faithfulness the belt of his loins.

The Loosing and Final Rebellion of Satan at the end of the Millennium:

Revelation 20:7-10 And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth,  Gog and Magog,  to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded  the camp of the saints and  the beloved city, but  fire came down from heaven  and consumed them, and the devil  who had deceived them was  thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where  the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

The great white throne judgment and the second resurrection or judgment of unbelieving dead:

Revelation 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Bible Passages That Show Heaven and Earth Passing Away

Matthew 24:35  Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Mark 13:31  Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Luke 16:17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void.

Luke 23:33 And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left.

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.

Verses About The Tribulation Period

Daniel 9:24-27  Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and  your holy city, to finish  the transgression, to put an end to sin,  and to atone for iniquity,  to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and  to anoint a most holy place. Know therefore and understand that  from the going out of the word to restore and  build Jerusalem to the coming of an  anointed one, a  prince, there shall be seven weeks. Then for sixty-two weeks it shall be built again with squares and moat, but in a troubled time. And after the sixty-two weeks, an anointed one shall be cut off and shall have nothing. And the people of the prince who is to come  shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.  Its end shall come with a flood, and to the end there shall be war.  Desolations are decreed. And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week, and for half of the week he shall put an end to sacrifice and offering.  And on the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate, until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator.

Matthew 24:21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be.

Revelation 11:2-3 but do not measure the court outside the temple; leave that out, for it is given over to the nations, and they will trample the holy city for forty-two months. And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.

My hope today is that these passages will wet your appetite for digging deeper into God’s word to look for answers.  The Bible is not just a book of facts and answers but a living breathing thing that still moves people today.  We should never simply study any topic to become knowledgeable but rather to learn more about God by studying His word so that it will change the way we live now.  This is true in Eschatology.  My prayer is that we study about the end times in such a way that it gives us a deeper passion for the people that do not know and are not following Jesus.  Whenever I study about the end times it is motivating to me to speak more openly about Jesus.  The end of this world one day will not be pretty by worldly standards but for followers of Jesus it will be amazing to finally meet Jesus and live with God forever and ever.
