How To Glorify God At Work

There is so much going wrong with the world today and maybe you’re in a time of trouble, so what can the Christian do about it? Jesus actually promised we would have trouble in the world, saying, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). And Jesus knew about trouble…with Calvary ahead.

Proverbs 15:16 “Better is a little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble with it.”

Maybe you’ve heard stories about people who won the lottery or inherited vast sums of wealth, where their lives slowly unraveled. For some reason, people can’t always handle success…it handles, them, so even if we have little, we have all things in Christ Jesus. The Proverbs prove true in saying, “In the house of the righteous there is much treasure, but trouble befalls the income of the wicked” (15:6). Of course, Jesus is the treasure that is above all worth…the great and priceless, Lamb of God.

Psalm 20:1 “May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you.”

It’s not a matter of if but when trouble will come. We are all either coming out of a storm, in a storm right now, or getting ready to enter one. Troubles will come, but sometimes instead of solving our problems, our problems solve us. They humble us and remind us that we must cry out to God “in the day of trouble.” God is more than able to protect you. He will answer your prayer, no doubt…but not in your time, but in His infinitely better time, meaning it’s all for our very best (Rom 8:28).

Psalm 27:5 “For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.”

When have you had a “day of trouble?” I can think of several, but in these times I knew I had a God that would shield me and cover me, and what a firm foundation…“high upon a rock,” far away from calamities. We are hidden in Christ if you’ve trusted in Christ, “For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Col 3:3).

Isaiah 33:2 “O LORD, be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our arm every morning, our salvation in the time of trouble.”

I noticed that Isaiah the Prophet mentioned that “we wait for you,” showing that God may not immediately answer our prayers. Perhaps He is testing our faith so we’ll know how strong or weak it is. But one thing is certain, “every morning” we have God’s Word to remind us of “our salvation” and that’s really important “in the time of trouble.”

Provers 21:23 “Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.”

If I could take back some of my words, I would, but of course, I can’t. I have learned (the hard way) to “be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger” (James 1:19b). I learned that the loudest is not the right one; instead I learned that a soft answer turn away wrath (Prov 15:1), and the volume. I have tried to do better with my choice of words. Do they build up others or tear them down. Am I passing on a prayer request or is it really gossip?

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

If we have believed in Christ, then no trouble should shake us from our confidence in God. The world offers peace, but it’s never lasting, but not so for those who trust in the Lord. He is their refuge…today and forever. Jesus brings everlasting peace between us and God. The Apostle Paul wrote that “we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom 5:1). This is only because “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Rom 8:1). No sin can win, not guilt can hold, for we are new creations in Christ Jesus (2 Cor 5:17) and have His very own righteousness (2 Cor 5:21). You canot have the peace of God until you’ve made peace with God.

Conclusion

The late Adrian Rogers was once told, “What is the world coming too!” to which He said, the world is coming to Jesus Christ. That’s what we all hope for. If you fear God, you have nothing else to fear. God’s placed His wrath upon Jesus if you’ve trusted in Christ, so I pray you have already put your trust in our Lord and Savior. If that has not happened yet, my friend, you are in real danger of hell fire. And I mean, in immediate danger. You’re one breath, one heartbeat…one accident away from eternity when it will be too late to repent. Today is the best day to believe (2 Cor 6:2) since tomorrow is no guarantee. If Jesus Christ came today, here is your fate (Matt 7:21-23). This is why I plead with you as you read this, repent today…and I mean right now. Put your trust in Jesus Christ. If you do not, you will face God’s judgment after death guaranteed (Heb 9:27) or at Jesus Christ’s appearance (Rev 20:12-15), which could happen at any moment.
