What Role Does China Play In Biblical End Times Studies?

Does the Bible say what role that China plays in the end times?  What Scriptures seem to point to this idea?

The Kings of the East

When God pours out the bowls of wrath in the Book of Revelation the kings of the east are mentioned, specifically in Revelation 16:12 where it says The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, to prepare the way for the kings from the east.”  Is this where the vast hoards of the communist nation China enters into the prophetic history of the end times?  Why were the waters dried up in the first place?  This was prophesied hundreds of years earlier in Isaiah where the day of the Lord is written about (Isaiah 11:11) and in 11:15 is says God will cause the mighty river to be shrank down to seven channels.  Seven typically represents perfection or completion as in the creation week of the earth and the universe being created in seven days so the drying up of the River Euphrates dries up at the perfect time.

What Role Does China Play In Biblical End Times Studies

The Way Prepared

God saw to it that the great river Euphrates was dried up so that the vast armies of the east could cross over on foot and whatever vehicles they needed.  Anytime a direction is given, like the east in this case, the Bible speaks of the direction in relation to Jerusalem or Israel and if you look directly to the east on any world map, that would strongly suggest China and quite possibly could represent their innumerable armies.  China today has the largest standing army of any nation in the world.  They are so massive that they don’t have the capacity to transport that huge of a number of troops so maybe that’s why they had to cross over, perhaps on foot, across the Euphrates River.

Is Russia Involved?

We have seen the cooperative natures of Russia and the Chinese and today, Russia is becoming increasingly belligerent toward the West and Israel and on the same map that you can locate China as being to the East, so also lies another of the most powerful military nations of the world and that would be Russia.  Will Russia join with the Chinese as parts of the “kings of the east?” Only time will tell.  Russia is typically believed to be Gog and Magog to the north but still more east than north.  Many Bible scholars believe that Gog and Magog in Ezekiel 38 and 39 refer to Russia although we cannot know with 100% certainty.

God’s Sovereignty

Nothing will ever catch nor has anything ever caught God by surprise so in the time just prior to Christ’s second coming, it looks like He will providentially draw these two vast forces (and others?) together as part of His plan to bring them to the Valley of Megiddo just below the Hebrew-named Mount Megiddo for the Battle of Armageddon (Rev 16:14) which takes place shortly after the kings of the east march to just outside of Israel.  Hundreds of Bible commentaries agree that the kings of the east are the oriental people from just north of Indonesia throughout the northern areas into China and parts of Russia which have some people that are classified today as Oriental descendants.[1] This isn’t the first time that the Euphrates has been known to dry up and the timing of this is within God’s plan for the end time events that may take place shortly.  Isaiah writes in 49:12 “Behold, these shall come from afar, and behold, these from the north and from the west, and these from the land of Syene.” Where is the land Synene or as some translations call it “Sinim” and who are these peoples?  Many Bible scholars associate “Sinim” or Synene with the Chinese because at the time that Isaiah wrote this the root word for Sinim is “Qin” which is a state that was founded 778 BC and refers to the Qin dynasty, founded in 221 BC by Qin Shi Huang-Di.  When Isaiah wrote this prophecy there was no one China, only a scattering of smaller states so the association to modern day China is in no way a stretch beyond the possibility of Sinim or Synene referring to China.

Anti-Semitism on the Rise

It is easy to look at world history and see the systemic hatred toward the Jews and anti-Semitism appears to be on the rise today.  This final battle could be a result of a rabid final mission intent on destroying once and for all the Jewish nation of Israel.  One thing we do know is that Satan despises God’s chosen people and today those who are chosen by God are the ones with the bull’s eye on their backs.  He would love nothing more than to destroy the children of God but since he cannot, the next best thing for the Devil would be to destroy the nation of Israel, the people who have written and preserved the Bible for centuries.  It’s like a raging bull…he will hit the next available target and Christians and Jews both are wearing red so since God’s people are protected and kept by God, he can only attack the Jews who have predominantly rejected Jesus Christ as the Messiah.  For a time, they have been blinded.  Paul writes when “Israel failed to obtain what it was seeking. The elect obtained it, but the rest were hardened” (Rom 11:7) and so “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that would not see and ears that would not hear, down to this very day” (Rom 11:12).  Paul continues this thought in Romans 11:25 where he writes “Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in” and the Gentiles is fulfilled when the last one is saved and Christ will return. Until that time, their minds [have been] made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away” (2 Cor 3:14).  Today, only a very small remnant of Israel has believed in Jesus.

We can get so wrapped up in prophecy and so focused on it that we take our eyes off of Jesus and that would be a huge mistake.  Jesus has given the church the Great Commission (Matt 28:18-20; Acts 1:8), an imperative command, to take the good news into the entire world so let’s focus on rescuing the perishing, growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord, and fixing our eyes upon Jesus in anticipation of His second coming when every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord (Rom 14:11).

I will read this article of yours one of these days, Pastor. Since it caught my attention, I had scanned what it says. Though I missed some parts, I strongly agree with you that we should have the heart to share with everyone God’s love. Since times are getting tougher, we really need to double time. We really should be bolder and more aggressive(in a godly manner) to spread the Word. For in Him there is eternal salvation. Bless your heart, always.

Thank you Mr. Angelo. If this article does nothing more than to inspire a greater sense of urgency to witness to the lost, then I call this article a success for to me, nothing is more crucial than to glorify God and to spread His Word, saving as many as our Great God permits through us. Praise God, yes we need to be more aggressive or determined for sure. I thank God that you care for lost souls brother since only, the last I read, only 4% of Christians are active in witnessing to their unsaved family, co-workers, and strangers. Thank you sir. You made my day!

nice one.no matter what we believe about prophecy lets not take our eyes off Jesus.

Very well said, my brother. Jesus is, after all, the perfector and author of our life and faith. He wants us to focus on Him, no matter how strong the storm is. It really blesses me to have this kind of conversation with my heavenly brothers. This makes me feel that our God is alive, especially during these times. Be blessed always, buddy.

As always, you are so kind sir. I see that you too see the bottom line and that is to rescue the perishing and to not take our eyes off of Jesus. Thanks brother.

Amen my friend in Christ….nothing else matters but focusing on Christ. Well said.

I think there’s no doubt about the fact that China will be a key player in the end times. If we’re taking a look the battle of Armageddon the 200 million of soldiers that will be deployed, China will provide a huge amount of them.

I think with respect to sharing the gospel, we’re not really taking our Christ-given responsibility to go out there in order to make disciples. We’re pretty much living in a time in which most Christians remain in their comfort zone praising God while doing nothing in order to extend the love, mercy, and grace of God to a dying world. Many Christians somehow pretend that there’s nothing at stake in regard to where people will spend their eternity.

No matter what we could have achieved in this world with respect to goal, they will never be able to come close in term of significance when it comes down to bring a soul to Christ.

Jack Wellman April 11, 2015 at 6:39 pm

Absolutely spot on my friend. So true. We are more interested in praising God and worshiping Him (which is okay but….) while the outside world is perishing eternally without Christ. We ought to feel compelled to rescue the perishing and win souls to Christ and indeed my friend, nothing can compare with bringing the lost to Christ.

Matthew Angelo April 13, 2015 at 10:29 am

I agree too. Because no matter what happens to this corrupted world, our main goal should not change. And our focus with Jesus Christ should not be taken by the catastrophes(in all forms) happening on Earth. I said this because in my personal opinion our times are really getting tougher than ever. It is very important that we are always aware that victory is already ours through our Jesus. The enemies are fighting a losing fight. Let us not lose heart and grow weary just because of what we see, for we will reap in due time (Galatians 6:9). And most importantly, may we never forget to do all things with love (1 Corinthians 16:14)
May we all enjoy God’s love and blessings every day, my lovely brothers and sisters.

It seems to me, most are not obedient to “THE OLD COVENANT” which from what I’ve learned is a PERPETUAL COVENANT FROM YAHOVAH OUR CREATOR.

Jack Wellman May 25, 2020 at 12:56 pm

Hello Christine. The Word of God teaches that the Messiah, Jesus, has come and shed the blood of the new covenant (Matthew 26:28; Hebrews 10:29) so that henceforth he is the Mediator of a new covenant, so that all saving, covenant-keeping faith is conscious faith in him; (2) the old covenant has therefore become “obsolete” (Hebrews 8:13) and does not govern the new-covenant people of God (2 Corinthians 3:7–18; Romans 7:4, 6; Galatians 3:19); and (3) the promised new heart and the enabling power of the Holy Spirit have been given through faith. If the old covenant were enough for us, the new covenant would never have come, and Jesus would not have had to die.

Didn’t the messiah said, that he did not come to abolish the law and the Prophet?, and he added, that not a single stroke of the law will be change until heaven and earth pass away, please enlighten me on this. Thanks

Jack Wellman July 8, 2021 at 10:57 am

Yes…He did not come to abolish the law but this didn’t mean we can be saved by keeping the law. We should strive to keep it but not in order to save ourselves but we keep God’s law because we are saved.

Hello, Pastor!

I know this is unrelated to the article, but I heard in the newspapers that there’s a huge risk of “US-style food deserts” forming in some deprived areas in the UK where fast food places are very plentiful. As an American who knows your country well, could you explain more about this phenomenon and how it’s been affecting the USA?

Thank you as always, Jack 🙂

Jack Wellman April 13, 2015 at 1:55 pm

I don’t know what you mean about this phenomenon my brother. I had not heard about it. I wish it was evangelism (the real evangelism of repentance and faith) that was spreading there. Sorry I couldn’t help you brother. Good too hear from you anyway.

Many years ago, when I was a younger Christian, I read the passage and had the same conclusion that the Chinese army would go over. I later realised that this conclusion is most likely completely wrong and misleads Christians into understanding what is the source of the greater danger.
1.] ‘East’ is in reference to Israel. The Wise Men from the East in most reviews I read, were men from Iran or Iraq. Therefore, ‘East’ in Revelations can be anywhere from Iraq to the Oriental and Melayasian people in the Far East. What people forget are the most likely ‘Easterners’ – the Pakistanis, Indians & Bangladeshis. That’s over 1.6 Billion people almost all of whom are Muslims and Hindus. Has anybody checked how much religious persecution of Christians go on in India today? People who call the Chinese ‘communists’ don’t know what they are talking about. The Chinese are ‘moneytists’ – with wealth as their god. Which of these are more likely to give up their lives to go fight a war far away? And for what material goods will they gain in Israel that they now not have?
2.] Has anybody ever looked at the map to see what separates China from the rest of the world? For an excellent understanding of this, go read Stratfor’s review on this matter. It is very, very far from China to Israel by land and very, very difficult! Deserts, mountains, rivers, …. Can you imagine 100 million crossing over? It is far easier in terms of terrain and in terms of distance to go from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan to Israel.
3.] The writer is still thinking of conventional armies. Look at ISIS. Where did thousands of their fighters spring up from? Other than the defeated remnants of Saddams’ armies, these are ex-farmers, accountants, IT savants, teachers, drop-outs, etc. Therefore, the armies of the end-days need not be conventional national armies.
If you don’t understand these points and are keeping your eyes on China, you will miss the greater and more likely danger that is nearer, much nearer.

Matthew Angelo April 21, 2015 at 1:23 pm

You make a very good point here, brother. Anyone would agree that these religions do not acknowledge Jesus as the ultimate Lord and Savior. Some might know the truth, but they intentionally taunt God through counterfeit beliefs. After all, lies come in different forms, but the truth only had, only has, and will only have one version. And that is Jesus. The author and perfector of our faith and salvation.

I believe there is nothing wrong with gathering this type of information. It is, after all, an eye-opener for everyone. It is also a sign that we are updated with what is happening with the world these days, that we are not just “praise-the-Lord” institution. We are more than a religion because we were already warned by the Bible of what is to take place, although some details are not specific. But no matter what or which country/ies will play a very pivotal part in the end times, our main goal is to spread the gospel in all nations. Our will to save everyone should not waiver for we know that the end is near, although exact details were not given. It will soon happen. And when this time comes, the Earth will experience a total wreak havoc. And I personally do not want anyone to be left behind to experience the world’s darkest hour. And I know so do you.

But I thank you for your personal insight, buddy. This was really an eye-opener for me. God bless you more…
