What Is The Christian View Of Psychics?

Does the Bible say anything about psychics? Is it sinful to consult with a psychic?

The Omniscient God

Did it ever occur to you that nothing has ever occurred to God? Or, has it ever dawned on you that nothing’s ever dawned on God? The point is, God doesn’t ever learn anything new because He is already omniscient, or all-knowing. God addresses mankind, and then specifically Job, by asking, “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding” (Job 38:4), so “Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it” (Job 40:2). Many people question God and His methods, but we have no business questioning God because God knows everything and all things work together for our good (Rom 8:28), even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time. We can trust God and His Word as it’s all-sufficient to know all we need to know, so to go outside of the Word of God to inquire about things we have no business inquiring about, is to venture into areas we were never intended to go. Knowing these things, let’s examine what the Christian view of psychics is, but based upon Scripture and not according to what we think, because “All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirit” (Prov 16:2).Can people communicate with the Dead

Psychics

A psychic is a person who claims to use extrasensory perception (ESP) to identify information hidden from the normal, but notice the definition says they claim to have ESP. Even if someone has the ability to identify information that’s hidden from most people, it is an abomination to God, and besides, the scientific consensus is that there is no proof of the existence of such powers, and the practice is described at pseudoscience and not real science. What’s interesting to me is that several psychics have been sued because they gave their clients the wrong information and their clients acted on this false information and it resulted in something that harmed them. Several other psychics have gone out of business, either due to problems with former clients or they just don’t have enough clients to earn a living from it, so my question to them is; if they are psychic, why didn’t they see this coming? If they have special powers to see beyond human abilities and look into the future, why didn’t they see the decline and fall of their own business coming? It’s interesting that we hear about all these psychics who predicted this disaster and that disaster, but it’s always revealed after the events occurred. Clearly, that takes no special power, and that’s something we can all claim, after the fact, so if psychics do have powers, were do these powers come from? Surely you know it’s not from God, and if it’s not from God, it must be from a source that is evil. Jesus said, if you are not for Him, you are against Him, and we know that God is against all psychics, and Scripture will prove that to us.

Psychics Power Source

It’s unconscionable that someone can claim to be a Christian and yet call themselves a psychic. It’s like saying I’m a Christian atheist. These two are not compatible, and besides, we are told in Scripture that it’s none of our business to try and inquire about the future. That is for God alone, so so-called “Christian psychics” are nothing more that fortune tellers and they are no better than someone who reads tarot cards to show someone their future, however, there is zero biblical support for such a thing. In fact, Scripture condemns anyone who dabbles in this type of satanic activity. If some psychics indeed do have the power to see into the future or see things we can’t normally see, guess where this power comes from? It is not God, so if it’s not from God, it must be satanic. Think God was tolerant of those who practice such things in the Old Testament, thinking, there’s really no harm in it? Think again. The Bible says, “A man or a woman who is a medium or a necromancer shall surely be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones; their blood shall be upon them” (Lev 20:27), so God says, “There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead” (Deut 18:10-11).

Warnings for Psychics

What Does The Bible Say Hell Is LikeGod has a stern warning for anyone who claims to be a psychic, fortune teller, or seer. The Word tells us to “not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the LORD your God” (Lev 19:31). Cleary, anyone that practices such things or seeks the services of someone like this is declared unclean by God, and we know that “nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life” (Rev 21:27). We know that those who trust in Christ will not practice such things, “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death” (Rev 21:8). You might as well add psychics to this list, and some even believe psychics fall under the category of “sorcerers,” but even if they’re not, it is sinful and God declares it’s an abomination. That should be enough to make us steer clear of having anything to do with psychics.

Conclusion

Sadly, many Christians read their horoscopes every day and put stock in them, even though the source of that is satanic, but to try and use the services of a psychic, even if they claim to be a Christian, is going to bring down a curse from God, and at best, it is an abomination to God. We are not to inquire of the future. We have no business dabbling in the occult. We know from Scripture that psychics are doing things contrary to God’s Word, and for that, they will pay dearly someday; unless they repent of that and put their trust in Christ. That is my prediction, but it’s based upon Scripture and not from me.
