A Book About Jesus
[1]The Bible actually contains many scientific facts, well ahead of mankind’s discoveries, so what actual scientific facts are there in Scripture? Let’s start by saying, as has been said, that the Bible is not a book about the heavens but a book about how to get there. God did not write His Word just to satisfy scientists or mankind. He wrote a book for those who would believe and come to know Jesus Christ and be saved, thereby, to heaven. We know that our belief in the Bible is a rational, logical faith for many reasons. It is not a blind faith but a faith that has substance and evidence of a Creator, as we shall see. The Bible has been called a Him-Book…not “hymn,” but that it’s all about Him, Jesus.
The Creation
Evolutionary philosopher Herbert Spencer, one of Charles Darwin’s earliest and most enthusiastic advocates outlined five “ultimate scientific ideas” necessary for what exists: time, force, action, space, and matter. If you read Genesis 1:1 you can actually see the five scientific necessities for everything that exists; time, force, action, space, and matter. Genesis 1:1 matter-of-factly states, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” [2]
Spoken into Existence
Now, let’s plug in the so-called scientific necessities for the existence of the universe into God’s creative act in Genesis 1:1: “In the beginning, [that’s time] God [that’s force] created [that’s action] the heavens [that’s space] and the earth [that‘s matter].” Psalm 33:9 says the same thing, essentially; “For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.” Of course, God knew well ahead of time what mankind just discovered 1908. In fact, God has never learned anything new at all….ever! And nothing has ever occurred to God or been discovered by God. God is all-knowing (omniscient), but science, for thousands of years, has been discovering what has already been recorded in the Bible. Always trying to “catch up” but never quite making it. As always, they’re just a little late.
The Book of Job and Science
[3]Job must have been a brilliant man and remember, the Book of Job is perhaps the oldest book in the Bible, having been written during the patriarchal period. If you read the Book of Job, you plainly see that Job knew a lot about God and the way the universe works, but God knows a lot more…no, He knows it all. At the end of the book, He told Job some very amazing things. And remember, this book was written thousands of years before most of the scientific discoveries were made by mankind. One example is where Job wrote that the earth is suspended in space (Job 26:7), unlike most ancient civilizations who thought the earth was being held up by elephants, Hercules, or something else just as ridiculous. Job even mentions that air has weight, and it clearly does (Job 28:25). Job also wrote about the hydrological cycle, as did Amos (Amos 9:6, Job 36:27-28). And somehow, Job even knew about the deep oceanic springs (Job 38:16). How could Job known about the binding of clusters of constellations by gravity (Job 38:31)?
Other Bible Science Facts
All things consist of atoms which are not visible to the naked eye (Heb 11:3), and only a century ago was discovered.
The earth was not flat which was believed by most of human history but rather, the earth is spherical. People once thought they could sail off the edge of the earth, but Isaiah the Prophet describes the earth as the “circle of the earth” (Isaiah 40:22), and Jesus mentions the cycles of day and night in different parts of the earth and at the same time in one of His parables (Luke 17:34-36), signifying a spherical earth; one place day, the other place, night.
Solomon knew that upper air currents circulated around the earth as in the many different jet streams we have on earth (Eccl 1:6).
The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics states that things move from order to disorder and are decaying and deteriorating; just what the Bible states (Isaiah 51:6; Rom 8:22; Heb 1:10-11).
The Bible is clear that the life is in the blood, meaning it is a necessity for life. Too bad the doctors of old didn’t know this. By blood-letting, they ended up killing thousands and thousands unnecessarily. If only they had read their Bibles (Lev 17:11).
The orbit of the sun itself is described by the Psalmist (Psalm 19:4-6).
Even the stars, once thought to be a finite, countable number, are now regarded as innumerable. Many centuries ago, people had actually counted and recorded the exact number of stars (just over a thousand), but when telescopes came about, we finally saw what the Bible has said all along (Heb 11:12, Gen 15:5, Jer 33:22, Gen 17:7). There’s no way we can count them all!
Conclusion
Yes, we have amazing evidence that God exists and that every Word of God is true, but we can’t debate someone into heaven. We can be ready to give an answer for our hope in Christ, but we must always be “prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect” (1 Pet 3:15). We can win a debate but what if we lose a soul? Nobody’s been debated into heaven that I know of. That’s why I have prayed for all who will read this; that they will already have put their trust in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and if not, they will do so this very moment. If that has not happened yet, you are in real danger of hell fire. And I mean, in immediate danger.
Like all human beings, you are only one breath, one heartbeat…one accident away from eternity when it will be too late to repent. Today is the best day to believe (2 Cor 6:2) since tomorrow is no guarantee. If Jesus Christ came today, here is your fate (Matt 7:21-23). This is why I plead with you as you read this, repent today…and I mean right now. Put your trust in Jesus Christ. If you do not, you will face God’s judgment after death guaranteed (Heb 9:27) or at Jesus Christ’s appearance (Rev 20:12-15), which could happen at any moment.
