6 Powerful Prayers For Cancer Patients

by Derek Hill · Print Print · Email Email

If you have found this article because you are searching for support and help, please comment below and I will gladly pray for you!  It seems that we all know someone who has cancer or is in remission. Or, maybe even you have gone through the struggle and uncertainties of this disease.  While we may never understand why God allows some of us to get cancer, we all can know for certain that God is sovereign and that He loves us through all of the storms in this life.  Here are 6 prayers that you can pray if you are hurting from this disease somehow.

Dear Lord,

I know that You allow all trials to come upon us and I don’t like asking this question to You, but why have You allowed me to get cancer?  I love You and I know You have a plan for me.  I am so down right now and I need You so badly to comfort me.  Please, Lord, I don’t want to leave this world yet!  My babies are so young and my wife, I love her so much!  Please, Father, show me what You want me to learn from this.  I pray that You will heal me 100% from this disease.  May Your will be done in this.  I love You!  Amen

The Unknown

Heavenly Father,

My dad, is he going to make it through this?  I am scared, Lord!  I don’t know how to deal with life without him here and I am not sure if his faith in You is even real.  It saddens me to think he may not be in Heaven when he leaves this earth.  Please, Lord, give me Your peace in this crazy time and allow me some time to talk with him about Jesus.  I ask that You would heal him, Lord.  I love him so much.  May Your will be done.  I love You!  Amen

I will praise You in the storm.

I will praise You in the storm.

Getting Better?

O Lord,

The doctors say I am getting better!  I am so happy and excited!  This is all because of You!  You are the one who has given my doctors the intelligence and equipment to battle this disease.  Father, I pray that You would put my cancer into remission for good!  I don’t want any part of it!  Father, use this miracle to show this tiny part of earth that You are real!  I will praise Your name and tell everyone I can, here, about the saving blood of Your Son!  I love You, Father!  Amen

It Is Finished

It feels like I’m dying inside.  My husband, he’s gone.  Lord, I will never understand this.  We are so young; he was only 32 and our children are heartbroken.  Lord, I am lost.  I have no idea how to handle life now.  I miss him so much.  I miss holding his hand.  I miss his laugh and his embrace.  I miss seeing him throw our 2 year old up in the air.  I miss the giggles of our kids as he tickled their tummies.  I can’t do this, Lord!  I want him back so badly.  Please give me strength for my kids.  They need me, but I need a shoulder to cry on too…I’m lost.  I wish this was only a bad dream.  I just want to wake up from this nightmare!  Father, help me!  I’m dying inside!  Amen

The News

I just got the news about grandma.  Lord, I don’t know what Your plan is for her, but I am certain that she will have a room in Your house in Heaven.  I don’t know what to pray.  I love her.  My selfish side wants her to live, but she is very old.  Her pain is great, Lord.  I pray that You would end her pain, Father, whether it be through healing her or meeting her in Heaven.  I pray that Your will be done in this!  I love You!  Amen

I Will Praise You In This Storm

Dear Lord,

I am caught in a whirlwind of emotions.  I never thought I would get cancer.  Satan wants to suck the joy right out of me and right now he has for the moment.  I am so discouraged.  Lord, I trust in You no matter what happens and I need You to walk with me through this!  Lord, I thank You for music and the peace it brings me.  “I will praise You in this storm, and I will lift my hands!  For You are who You are, no matter where I am!  And every tear I’ve cried, You hold in Your hands.  You never left my side and though my heart is torn I will praise You in this storm!” (I Will Praise You In This Storm, Casting Crowns) Lord, I give this all to You.  I trust in You and I love You!  Amen

Cancer affects so many people and we will never know why until we see Jesus face to face in Glory.  Please, leave a comment below if you need prayer.  I will pray for you in this very dark storm of life.  God is good all of the time and no matter the outcome, His glory can be proclaimed.  May God bless you as you continue to live a life worthy of the calling!

Thank you for this site! My friend was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer in March, 2016. She has had 2 operations and has been undergoing chemo treatment since March after the ops.
The latest cancer marker has doubled from 3xx to 6xx….& she was in devastation. The worst part of her journey, she has come to think GOD is playing a joke on her as we have a big prayer group praying relentlessly for her. She is now angry with GOD and is in a shut down mode, not wanting to see anyone.
Please pray for her! Thank you all so much.

Hi Derek. I have been asking friends, and asking myself, what do I pray…
My dad was just diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of his tongue., we had the shock of lives just 4 days ago , where first my dad lost his best friend who had passed on, then the very next day we find out he has this cancer. His tongue has been bothering him for very long time. He refused to go to the doctor. I finally got him to agree and long story , short, we end up at the ENT doctor whom we never had seen before. We had not done the biopsy yet, but she still said this was his diagnoses. My dad is deviated as am I. We lost my mom 5 years ago, and all I have is my dad now. I keep trying to get him to pray, but he is angry. He feels this is the end. Yet we have just begun. Derek, help me? Help him. Thank you.

Jack Wellman January 18, 2017 at 8:42 am

Hello Dawn. Your father’s anger is something that only he can change? You can pray for him and leave it at that. I would talk with your pastor about this and see what he says. Have you talked to him yet? Sometimes you cannot get people to pray so you must pray for them.

I’m so glad that I came across this site-just found out my brother Mark was diagnosed with tonsil cancer…he is preparing for a PET scan and 8week treatment of chemo and radiation….which will take him and my sister-in-law, Wendy away from their family, with 3 of their child under the age of six. They do have many helping take care of their children, but at this time I ask for prayers for Mark and healing of the disease and strenghth for all.

Thank you for being so encouraging with this site. I know I’m not alone. If you wouldn’t mind praying for me I would truly appreciate it. They found polyp cancer in my colon and I already have a cyst on my liver. I am supposed to hear from my doc today to know what the next step is. I am doing my best to keep my sites on the Lord but it’s hard to have peace with the unknown outcome. Lord bless each of the people who were mentioned on this site in Your own special way. And for the one who made this site. Help those who struggle with their unbelief.May we all feel Your loving arms around us as we move through this journey. Help all of us to keep our eyes steadfastly on you. Protect us from the lines of Satan. In the all powerful name of Jesus I pray. Amen

Maria February 9, 2017 at 7:45 pm

Eunice February 10, 2017 at 2:59 pm

Lord Jesus, be merciful to me a sinner! I believe Christ died for me, and that His precious blood will cleanse me from all my sin. By faith I now receive the Lord Jesus Christ into my heart as my Lord and my Savior; Trusting Him for the salvation of my soul. Help me Lord to do thy Will each day. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen! Name __________________________

Believe, and have faith. With God All things are possible. It is within you to be healed. God is with you Always no matter what. He is with you in all your challenges. He is in you waiting to release His Healing Spirit within you. Speak to Him. I am encouraging you to speak healing in your mind, body, and soul. You can do this in Jesus Name. God Bless.

Jack Wellman February 10, 2017 at 3:04 pm

Thank you Eunice. I love this prayer but it may not be God’s will to heal someone, as Paul prayed 3 times for the thorn in the flesh to be removed but God didn’t heal him. Also, it is not within us to heal ourselves. It must be by God’s power and in God’s will, which we are told to pray for (Matt 6:9-13). You cannot speak healing into a body. That is not found in the Bible. Thank you for caring enough to share your prayer Eunice.

Ashley Holbrook February 14, 2017 at 6:11 pm

ALEC DOUGLAS PEABODY February 16, 2017 at 12:35 pm

Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead? Less heal the sick?
Jesus who had died, but whom is alive, after defeating death and the grave, it is in His Name that sickness must obey.
1Peter2:24b “by his wounds you have been healed.” forget not all His BENEFITS, who heals ALL thy diseases. This is His will, let us continue to believe for our love ones. JESUS IS ALIVE!! & Is HEALING TODAY> WE must believe and therefore speak.

Jack Wellman February 16, 2017 at 1:06 pm

Yes, I agree, but if it is God’s will to take someone home early, who are we to question God? Could Paul get healed? No, 3 times he cried out to God but God said, My grace is sufficient for you.” What is greater? Raising someone from the dead, or sharing the gospel and being used by God to bring them eternal life where death will be no more (Rev 21:4). If Isaiah 53 is only about healing us, then we are left with His being bruised for our sakes and “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted” but for cancer or a cold? No, it says in context, which is what your verses is, “it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt” (Isaiah 53:10). Yes, God can heal the sick and those who have cancer but we are told by Jesus in the Lord’s Prayer to pray for God’s will and not our will on earth as it is in heaven. What if you say that to a family who is losing a loved one to cancer and they still die? What do you say to them now? Friend, always pray for God’s will and not ours and if it’s His will to heal the sick, then it is God’s will that’s done and not what we proclaim.

ALEC DOUGLAS PEABODY February 17, 2017 at 11:03 am

God’s will is revealed by the life of Jesus on this earth. Jesus healed all who were sick and diseased, all! He revealed the will of the father. “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” “I am willing,” He said, “be clean!” Luke 5:12-13 God is willing and able but His body (The Church) on earth does not know the Jesus that God knows. Not because it is not happening means it is not for us. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. And this he is doing. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. This is the Jesus that the church must preach and teach!! For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. The manifest Christ, His power, His will and ability must be taught that faith might come through him for healing to be experienced.
2 Corinthians 12:7-10
A thorn in the flesh was a the messenger of Satan not God, not sickness either. Paul experienced hostile actions against him, threats of death from men(messenger of Satan.
Thank God for heaven (Luke 7:11-17) but that mother’s only son was forbidden going there early, had work to do here.
JESUS RAISE UNTO YOURSELF A CHURCH IN THESE DAYS THAT LONGS TO SEE THE LORD WORKING WITH THEM, AND CONFIRMING THE WORD. Amen. Let us not allow our love ones to die without putting up a fight of Faith. PEACE!!

Jack Wellman February 17, 2017 at 11:19 am

Again, what do you tell a family that you just told will be healed by Jesus’ stripes and then they die of cancer? Will you blame them for their lack of faith and add more grief upon grief. There is zero evidence that the messenger of Satan was from death threats. You need to repent of speaking things into existence. This is only for God to do and you cannot tell someone they’re going to be healed if it is not God’s will. Jesus purpose was not to help us get over a cold…but He died for our sins and took upon Himself the wrath of God…but not to heal but to bring eternal life. You are sadly mistaken about Isaiah 53. Please find a good study Bible sir. God can heal anyone He wants but nowhere in the Bible is there stated that He will heal everyone if only they will believe. Some Jesus healed were not even there.

Monique Field March 6, 2017 at 7:26 pm

My friend and coworker was diagnosed with stomach cancer last year, she had her stomach removed and underwent chemo and was proclaimed “Cancer Free”. Today, however, she underwent a laparoscopic surgery to investigate a couple of hernias and was told that the cancer has returned and is stage 4. I have been so good at standing on God’s word for her healing but today I selfishly feel defeated. I know that God still works miracles and I believe that he can. and I will keep speaking healing and giving Him thanks for the healing. She is so young and has a 3 year old little boy and a fiancé that need her to live. I need the word to encourage her and help her face her future. Thank you.

Please pray for my best friend, Denny. He has endured two years of cancer treatments – from traditional to two clinical trials. Today, he will receive a petscan. He is anxious and scared. Please pray that his cancer is going into remission and that his reengineered T cells continue to fight his battle for him.

He is the most faithful Christian I know and knows that God has a plan for him. Please pray that those plans include continued blessings of his presence for those down here – that he can continue to share his journey with believers and non-believers.

He has been through so much – yet his faith has not veered!

Thank you for your prayers!

Cheryl July 14, 2017 at 5:41 pm

For those who are dealing with cancer, there are natural protocols that may help. Certainly I believe in prayer, but also we should do all we can for the body, the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Cheryl July 15, 2017 at 5:57 am

It is important to seek answers. Pray, yes. God can heal miraculously. But also a lot has to do with lifestyle and diet. There are foods that can be eaten to fight cancer.

Cheryl July 15, 2017 at 4:59 pm

I believe God can heal through prayer but I think it is also important to learn how to eat healthier foods as part of the answer.

We are praying for and asking others to pray for our son n law Aaron who was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer shortly after Thanksgiving this past year. He is in his 30’s and he and our daughter have not even been married 2 years yet. They have a beautiful 1 year old daughter and the chemo he has taken since being diagnosed has not shrunk the tumor enough for the doctors to perform surgery. Within the last month he has gone to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and is scheduled for surgery tomorrow. His parents and sister have come to be with them. We are all praying and place our faith and trust in our God who we know loves us and will meet all our needs. Thank you for this site and the support you offer to so many cancer patients and their loved ones. It is a difficult battle. God Bless.

Please pray healing and comfort for my Aunt Karen Curry. She is battling cervical/ovarian cancer. She has already underwent 3 or 4 treatments of the strongest chemotherapy available and she is scheduled for surgery on the 31st. Pray that the Lord gives her and her family strength and peace.

Faydra January 20, 2020 at 12:56 am

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Faydra January 20, 2020 at 1:01 am

Please pray for healing, comfort, peace and strength for my Aunt Karen Curry and her family. She’s been battling cervical/ovarian cancer. Shes already had to undergo 3 or 4 of the strongest chemotherapy treatments and shes scheduled for surgery on the 31st of this month.
