10 Great Casting Crowns Songs

by Pamela Rose Williams · Print Print · Email Email

Casting Crowns is a popular Christian band that is led by Pastor Mark Hall. Mark is still active in his church as Youth pastor and the message behind the songs (mostly written by Mark) is how passionate we can be about things that don’t matter and how passive we are about the things that do matter. Casting Crowns’ songs always have a clear message to challenge the Church to be the Church. You can read all about their latest project and get to know the members a little better at their web site: Casting Crowns. Here are 10 great Casting Crowns songs.

Featured Casting Crowns Song: Who Am I This song was recorded and released on Casting Crown’s very first album “Casting Crowns”. This is the very first song I ever heard by this talented group and I was immediately in love with the musicality and the message. We had been running a small Christian school and each student was required to give a speech as part of a soul winning course that we offered. The school was a ministry of a pretty conservative church so when Johnny got up to give his speech he was quite nervous, knowing that contemporary music was not generally played there. Johnny gave a summary of the band and then introduced “Who Am I” and just pressed play. I remember his face as he watched me listen — and cry. This is a beautiful song that makes you think about how wonderful it is to have a Heavenly Father that loves us so much, even though we be a flower quickly fading, a wave tossed in the ocean or even a vapor in the wind. No matter how small we are, we matter to God. I hope you will enjoy the video in the upper right area of this page.

Casting Crown Songs

Jesus, You know just how far the east is from the west

East to West

“As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. (Psalms 103:12) This is the Scripture in the middle of this song. A great reminder of how big the Father’s love is for us. This is a great song on which to meditate.

Lyrics:

Here I am, Lord, and I’m drowning in your sea of forgetfulness
The chains of yesterday surround me
I yearn for peace and rest
I don’t want to end up where You found me
And it echoes in my mind, keeps me awake tonight
I know You’ve cast my sin as far as the east is from the west
And I stand before You now as though I’ve never sinned
But today I feel like I’m just one mistake away from You leaving me this way

Jesus, can You show me just how far the east is from the west
’cause I can’t bear to see the man I’ve been come rising up in me again
In the arms of Your mercy I find rest
’cause You know just how far the east is from the west
From one scarred hand to the other

I start the day, the war begins, endless reminding of my sin
Time and time again Your truth is drowned out by the storm I’m in
Today I feel like I’m just one mistake away from You leaving me this way

I know You’ve washed me white, turned my darkness into light
I need Your peace to get me through, to get me through this night
I can’t live by what I feel, but by the truth Your word reveals
I’m not holding on to You, but You’re holding on to me
You’re holding on to me

Jesus, You know just how far the east is from the west
I don’t have to see the man I’ve been come rising up in me again
In the arms of Your mercy I find rest
’cause You know just how far the east is from the west
From one scarred hand to the other
One scarred hand to the other
From one scarred hand to the other

Glorious Day (Living He Loved Me)

This is my favorite worship song by Casting Crowns at the time of this writing. This is a great song for Easter or all year round to add to your praise and worship set. Here is a video so that you can praise God right now. SING!

I Know You’re There

This song features the voice of Megan Garrett. It is an amazing testimony of someone so in love with God – even though He is not seen. This is a lesser known song of Casting Crowns and it has lovely lyrics.

Lyrics:

If all I had was one last breath
I’d spend it just to sing Your praise
Just to say Your name
If all I had was one last prayer
I’d pray it ’cause I know You’re always listening
If I could live a thousand lives, bind the hands of time
I would spend every moment by Your side

’cause I, I know You’re there, I know You see me
You’re the air I breathe
You are the ground beneath me
I know You’re there, I know You hear me
I can find You anywhere

If all I had was one more song to sing
I would raise a noise to make the heavens ring
If all I had was one last chance, I’d take it
I would stake it all on You

If I could raise up high and catch a glimpse of every eye
I would make them believe
What I feel inside

If I could live a thousand lives and bind the hands of time
If I could rise up high and catch a glimpse of every eye

I know You’re there
I know You’re there
I know You’re there, You’re there

Jesus Friend of Sinners

This song is spot on regarding the message that so many Christians give today. We are so busy letting everyone know what we are against that we forget to give the real message – the gospel of Jesus Christ. The fact that Jesus Christ is a friend of sinners and his sacrifice on the cross was for all sinners. We need to spend more time sharing that good news with the lost. My favorite lyrics are listed below.

Sample Lyrics:

Jesus, friend of sinners, the one who’s writing in the sand
Made the righteous turn away and the stones fall from their hands
Help us to remember we are all the least of these
Let the memory of Your mercy bring Your people to their knees
Nobody knows what we’re for only what we’re against when we judge the wounded
What if we put down our signs crossed over the lines and loved like You did

Oh Jesus, friend of sinners
Open our eyes to world at the end of our pointing fingers
Let our hearts be led by mercy
Help us reach with open hearts and open doors
Oh Jesus, friend of sinners, break our hearts for what breaks yours

Life Song

This is a convicting song. What is your life song saying about you? Is the Lord the most important thing to you – is leading others to the Lord high enough on your list of thing to do? Do you find yourself running out of time to read your Bible? Is it important for you to spend time with other believers, or would you rather hang out with your old friends?  When we are “in Christ” old things are passed away, all things become new. Do you have a new life song?

Lyrics:

Empty hands held high
Such small sacrifice
If not joined with my life
I sing in vain tonight

May the words I say
And the things I do
Make my lifesong sing
Bring a smile to You

Let my lifesong sing to You
Let my lifesong sing to You
I want to sign Your name to the end of this day
Knowing that my heart was true
Let my lifesong sing to You

Lord I give my life
A living sacrifice
To reach a world in need
To be Your hands and feet

So may the words I say
And the things I do
Make my lifesong sing
Bring a smile to You

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Let my lifesong sing to You

Praise You in the Storm

Sometimes life takes you through a storm. In our ministry we deal with many people who are in the middle of the “fire storm”. This is that time when you cannot seem to think of anything else except for how you are going to get through today. This is the time when God wants to hear from you. He listens to our prayers and He loves when we praise Him in the storm. Next time you are going through a storm, listen to this song. You will be so busy praising the Lord you will have no time to dwell on life’s issues.

Lyrics:

I was sure by now
God You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say “Amen”, and it’s still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

[Chorus:]
And I’ll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
And every tear I’ve cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry to you
And you raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I can’t find You

But as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

[Chorus]

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth

[Chorus x2]

Somewhere in the Middle

Here is a live video of this song. Another song from Mark’s heart to the young people he serves. I love the orchestration in this song.

To Know You

Do you ever feel like every time you read your Bible you get to know Jesus just a little bit more? Well I do! It is natural when you love someone that you want to get to know them more. The Bible is how God lets us know what He wants us to know. When you study it and compare precept with precept, line with line you will learn something new every time you are in the word. I believe that is the main message in this song. Take a look at some of the lyrics of this song:

Sample Lyrics

To know you is never worry for my life, and
To know you is to never to give in or compromise
To know you is to want to tell the world about you
Cause I can’t live without you

To know you is to hear your voice when you are calling
To know you is to catch my brother when he is falling
To know you is to feel the pain of the broken hearted
Cause they can’t live with out you.

More than my next breath
More than life or death
All reaching for, I live my life to know you more
I leave it all behind, you are all that satisfies
To know you is to want to know you more
To know you is to want to know you more

Voice of Truth

There is only one voice of truth and He says “I love you and you are important”. You can choose to listen to Him or to the others who try to tear you down. This song is a great reminder that we have a choice. I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth.

Lyrics:

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of faith it takes to climb out of this boat I’m in
Onto the crashing waves

To step out of my comfort zone
To the realm of the unknown where Jesus is
And He’s holding out his hand

But the waves are calling out my name and they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times I’ve tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
Time and time again. ‘Boy, you’ll never win!’
“You’ll never win”

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
And the voice of truth says “Do not be afraid!”
And the voice of truth says “This is for My glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant
With just a Sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors
Shaking in their armor
Wishing they’d have had the strength to stand

But the giant’s calling out my name and he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times I’ve tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
Time and time again “boy, you’ll never win!
“You’ll never win”

But the stone was just the right size
To put the giant on the ground
And the waves they don’t seem so high
From on top of them looking down
I will soar with the wings of eagles
When I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
Singing over me

I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth
