Call On God For Help In Desperate Times

by Jack Wellman on September 10, 2011 · Print Print · Email Email

What can we do when we are in desperate situations?  Can we call on God? Can we depend on God?  Can we trust in God?

These are sobering times that we live in today.  Many people have lost jobs and can’t find one.  Others are underemployed and are just barely making it.  The unemployment rate is soaring, the stock market is highly volatile, and famine is spreading worldwide.  Families are losing their homes due to failed mortgages.  There are severe droughts, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, fires, and tornadoes.  And with turmoil going on in the world people are becoming desperate; even the people of God.  What can we do when our backs are against the wall and we have no where to turn and we are in serious trouble?

God actually desires that we be utterly dependent upon Him and that we are in desperate need of His help.  Think of a human father.  What good father would not want his children to turn to him when they need help?  Naturally, a father loves it when his children come to him to seek help.  There is something special about having someone there for you.  God is this true source and He is more reliable than any human father or mother.

God Says Call on Me For Help

God truly loves those that are His.  He loves you!  Listen to what God says for those who are in desperate situations and what He promises when they call upon Him:

Psalm 50:15and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”

Psalm 91:14-16 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.  He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

Psalm 145:18-20The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them. The LORD watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.”

Isaiah 41:17The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the LORD will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.”

Isaiah 55:1, 3Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.”

Isaiah 65:24Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.”

Jeremiah 33:3Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

Micah 7:7But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.”

God Says You Can Depend On Me

God wants us to depend on Him and not rely on ourselves.  God is our Father and we are His children. Children can not make it in this world without their parents.  How much more so can we not make it without the help of our Heavenly Father?  If we try to solve our problems by our self then we can really do nothing to ultimately solve them. God is actually more glorified in our weakness because by His strength He is able to display His might.  He stands ever ready, able, and willing to help us when we really need it but we must first acknowledge of our need for His help.  We truly find freedom from worry when we learn to depend upon God.  Read for yourself:

John 15:5 ““I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

Philippians 2:13for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”

1 Peter 5:7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. “

Matthew 28:20bAnd surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 6:25-27  “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”

Matthew 6:30-31  “If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?  So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?”

Romans 4:20-21Yet he [Abraham] did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,  being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”

Philippians 4:19And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

God Says You Can Trust in Me

Our money says “In God We Trust” but it is hard to trust when everything seems to be caving in around us.  Nothing looks like it will turn out right.  At times there is no evidence that God is even with us so how can we trust in Him during calamitous times?  In reality, we can sometimes not even trust our eyes…but if there is anything in this universe you can trust, it is God Almighty.  It is the invisible hand that is placed in ours that never lets go.  Like a parent holding their child‘s hand, God is securely caring for us, never letting us slip or fall:

Isaiah 41:13For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you.”

Proverbs 28:26 “Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.”

Jeremiah 17:5-7This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.”

Psalm 32:7You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.”

Jeremiah 32:27 I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?”

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Psalm 36:7 “How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!  People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.”

2 Corinthians 1:20 “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”

2 Peter 1:4aThrough these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature.”

1 Chronicles 28:20 “David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the LORD is finished.”

Conclusion

When everything seems to be falling in around us, when the walls seem to be closing in on us, when nothing in our world or in this world seems to hold any hope, when everything looks completely hopeless, just remember that God is not ever caught by surprise. He will save those who are His from calamity (Heb 7:25).  He isn’t ever going to abandon us, forsake us, or leave us.  If you are not one of His then you do not have such hope nor can you claim any of His mighty promises.   I pray right now that you seek Him because anyone who seeks Him He has said He can be found.  As it is written in Isaiah 55:6 “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.”  Second Corinthians 6:2 says, “For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.  I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”  Tomorrow may be too late but it not too late right now to put your complete trust in Him, to depend on Him, to call on Him.  This is my prayer for you.  Please contact us if you make such a decision.

I was engaged three months ago. 17 days ago, my fiance ended it after a counselor we were seeing said that we wouldn’t have a future together. It was a very stormy two years we had together. Two days later, she went onto a dating website. She said that was her way of grieving. I am devastated and trying to make it one day at a time. The world says I should be looking for a replacement mate. I can’t imagine wanting to see anyone right now or even months from now.

Hello John. What a terrible heartache this must be for you. I am glad you classified those outside the church as “the world” because we know that the world doesn’t have the Holy Spirit to give us wisdom. I will pray for you friend. I am so sorry. By this girl going so quickly to a dating website, it seems that she isn’t really grieving but I am not sure why she did this. I can see why you wouldn’t want to think about dating right now. I pray the God of all Consolation will comfort you as much as possible.

Hi Jack! I am inspired by you and your life! Way to go! Lately, I have been so distraught over the recent developments allowing gay marriage. I am very upset because I feel that our society is turning its back on God, forgetting God! We get further and further away from him. I do believe in God! I have been praying for enough money to go to medical school. Please pray for me to have enough money to live and to go to school as I am 52 changing career and am very self-doubtful sometimes, although I am a very strong woman. I keep having to borrow money from others and it feels very insecure. Lately, I’ve decided to claim my place as a wealthy daughter of a loving heavenly father, who put this dream in my heart, to make clear my path, to provide the financial support I need. Please pray for me to have the money I need and to be successful in my studies. I am contemplating working full time and studying full time, but if I can’t focus and make A’s, I’ll never get into medical school. I am asking God to make a miracle out of my life so that I many best serve others in their time of need. This is my prayer. Please pray for me. God bless you for making this website! You are an amazing man! I admire your accomplishments!!!!!! GO JACK!

Hello Bernadette. It is an honor to pray for fellow saints and your needs are God’s concern. I will pray above all that God’s will is done in your life and that you may achieve your heart’s desire and for God to powerfully use you for His glory which is why we were created. I thank God for you Bernadette that you are such an encouragement and we need more women of faith like you in our church and may God richly bless you and all that your hand finds to do.

Good Day Sir,
I just came across this article during my desperate search for an answer this morning. I am in a desperate financial need today. It is even begining to make me feel phisically sick.
I have been in terrible financial crisis for a very long time due to my own mistakes and I am stuck.
I cant get out of this cycle and I am am guessing it is because of my disobedience in giving.
Would God help a desperate child who has an immediate financial need, while they are in the midst of their financial wilderness?

Tessa August 9, 2013 at 1:07 pm

Dear Lily,
Yes, God will help you! He helps anyone who calls out to him and is sincere. I have prayed for you and will continue to pray for you. I am in the same situation. My husband and I are in terrible financial distress as well. We have made bad decisions and choices. Now we call out to the Lord for a miracle and help.
Remember, we are more than our finances or possessions.
We are children of the Lord we are blessed, we are redeemed. God will help you. It might be much slower than you like. ( Don’t we all feel that way?) Be God will help you. I will continue to pray for you. God bless you, Dear Sister. If you ever need more prayer let us know. I will pray for you and so will others. God will come through for you!

Hello Lily, I am so very sorry. I think that giving to your local church or, to me, the Salvation Army (one of the best charities above Red Cross by light years) is hard to do but if you start taking steps of faith, I know God will open the windows of heaven for you….not in just money but in things like your car not breaking down, the refrigerator, washer, etc…..Just read Psalm 37 and do it slowly and perhaps Psalm 103 to see how much God loves you and to rest in, rely upon, lean against, wait on, and trust in our Lord. I will pray for you as Tessa is too (Thanks Tessa, your a precious saint) and let’s pray in the STRONG Name of Jesus for His Name to be glorified. Keep in touch please.

Thank you so much to the both of you for your replies and your prayers (and your concern). I have made poor choices in the passed and repeated poor choices (old and new). I have been confused about “waiting” on God. I mean is it wrong to seek help after you have prayed for help, or is one just suppose to sit there and wait for the answer. I once heard it said that if you are not tithing 10 percent, dont even bother praying, because God is not hearing you. But then I hear that we are not under the law anymore, that we are under Grace now so give what you can or decided in your heart to give. This has always been an area of confusion for me.
I have prayed to see an end to this financial crisis I have been suffering for years now but have yet to see any relief. I do believe i am stuck roaming the desert.

Reply

Jack Wellman August 12, 2013 at 1:47 pm

Thank you Mrs. Ortiz. Yes, we are not under the law. I didn’t mean that you should give exactly 10% but you should be at least giving something to your church. Some, perhaps like you, can give only a small amount. I didn’t communicate to your problem very well and so I apologize for that. It is not wrong to pray if you are not giving 10%. That is not correct at all. That is Old Testament Mosaic Law and God will hear your prayers so keep praying and I will too. God hears our prayers but not because we are giving…but because He loves us..

Lily Ortiz August 12, 2013 at 2:31 pm

Thank you Jack, that was beautifully put.
I have begun giving to my church, and isnt it so great that God knows our hearts.
I often feel my prayers are just a jumbled mess.
Thank you for your kind words, your support and your prayers.

Lily Ortiz August 12, 2013 at 2:40 pm

… and no need for apology,
I have just had that question in my head for a long time.
Thank you again…

Tessa August 12, 2013 at 1:47 pm

Dear Lily,
I can understand what you are going through because my husband and I are going through the same thing.Never stop praying! We are to go to God for Everything, where we are at Now. We are redeemed by Grace and the Blood and Love of Jesus.
Tithing is good but God is not going to reject you because you fall short. We ALL fall short! That is why we need Jesus. Pray and stay in the word. Seek the counsel and comfort of fellow believers. I know it seems like forever ( believe me I KNOW) but God will answer your pray.Remember we are not the sum of our money and possessions.
I will pray for you Dear Sister. I know what you are going through. I really know. It is painful and drains the life out of you.
God will help you.
God Bless you dear Sister.
God’s Love Always,
Tessa

Dear Pastor Jack,

I’m separated, father of 2 daughters, 10 and 18. My wife left me because of poor financial choices I made especially during these last 5 years. Perhaps she did the reasonable thing. Pray that my faith and trust in God be strong. I find myself in panic, terrified at times when financial problems arise. It’s difficult being alone and facing challenges at the same time. God bless your ministry.

This is so good news Genesis. Can’t you see the progress. This is a glory to God and an answer to prayer. I will pray for you. Also, there is real power in the Word of God. Check out these sure and certain promises of God:

John 6:37 – All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

John 5:24 – Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

John 10:28 – And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any [man] pluck them out of my hand.

1 John 5:13 – These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW (my emphasis) that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Acts 2:38-39 – Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Read More…)

John 20:31 – But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Dwell on these exceedingly and precious promises my sister in Christ. They are more sure than the sunrise.

Dear Mr. Jack,
Thank you for this one. At this very moment, I’m really having a hard time. Work-related problem, I’ve been having sleepless nights, and this problem is really stressing me out. I’m not that religious person but I always pray at night before I sleep. I admit that this past few days, I was not having a relationship with God, I mean good relationship with God. I really need him right now. I really need help. Please, to all those who are able to read this, please include me in your prayers, Mr. Jack please give me hope. And if God is reading this right now, I just wanted to say sorry for all. I wanted to surpass this problem and I want to do it together with you. I have no one to talk to. Please help. Hi ,Mr.Wellman. I’m 41 years old ,The past year has been the hardest time of my life. I found out my wife of 15 years was cheating on me, my marriage finished at the same time I lost my job and all hope for the future. I have nothing left I am living in my younger sisters basement with my ten year old dog. I have no job ,no friends, no lady in my life and living day to day on assistance, which will run out soon. I’m not a bad person and I always try to help others with what little I have. I have anxiety all the time.I try to keep positive but I’m scared and fear tomorrow. I don’t want much in life now I just would like a place I could call my own where my dog and I could finally relax and have hope for a better future not to worry what tomorrow brings. Please pray for God to give me strength and to renew my faith in him . Jason

What a hard road you are on now Jason. I will pray for you my friend. Do you not have any friends close to your age in your church? I want to suggest Psalm 37 and for good reason. In fact, many of the Psalms were written by men in desperate straights with no end in sight and all they could see was with the eyes of faith into the blackness.

Pastor Jack, this is Gaston again. I wrote on your site last August 15. I can feel the pain of Jason- truly a hard road to pass through. Even as a Christian, these times “sift you like wheat”. But one thing I can say, Jesus promised never to leave his own nor forsake them. He never did leave me nor will He, even during difficult times. Though my wife has not yet returned to me, God has used my circumstances to change my character, drawing me even closer to Him Thank you for your prayers pastor.

Dear Jack,

Your website is very insightful and has definitely encouraged me, I am in a desperate situation now regarding my career. I’m a masters graduate and have been out of school for two years now, I lost count on the no of job applications and rejections I received. I decided at the beginning of this year to go into research, I contacted a professor in my field of interest who indicated he would like to take me on as soon as he gets new projects, it gave me hope, I felt like my prayers had been answered and this was the path God had designed for me, I began to prepare myself in all facets. I dedicated my whole year in positive anticipation of starting the programme this October, now, it seems like the professor is changing his mind abt me. Please pray for me so this opportunity does not slip out of my hands.

Hello Victoria. God alone is in charge of all things. We must trust His timing. If a person has repented, confessed their sins, and put their trust in Christ, then God will not ever leave you or forsake you. The lot is cast into the lap,
but its every decision is from the LORD. (Proverbs 16:33)

Dear Jack,

I am in a desperate place. I am very sad because I am the cause of my own misery. Even though I had ample opportunity to do something about it, I didn’t, and now it is about to have a disastrous end. I really need God’s help and favour to solve this problem. Please pray for me because today is the last day I have for a positive change.

Thank you for your encouraging words. God bless you as you continue to help other brothers and sisters in Christ until He returns.

Hello Eve. Please forgive my late response to this very important prayer request and comment. Thank you. I am so sorry that I didn’t respond sooner but I did read this earlier but being a bi-vocational pastor I couldn’t answer right away since I work too for a living as a pastor with little or no support. How did your day turn our Eve?

Dear Jack,

I write to THANK YOU very much for your prayer support and encouragement. It is well with me now. My day went by very quickly, with God showing me His mercy throughout the crisis. I really learnt the meaning of GRACE – receiving God’s unearned and unmerited favour! When the Bible says that God does “exceedingly abundantly above ALL that we can ask or think (Ephesians 3:20-21)” it is very true. God helped me, and blessed me in ways I never expected or even thought possible. God is good, and He really DOES answer us when we call to Him in our times of trouble. I pray that other people who may be at the end of their rope will find this website and be encouraged to trust in God too.

God richly bless you Jack.

Eve, what an encouraging comment and I believe your change by God’s power of course and not by my prayers, will give others hope. Praise God and to Him be the glory for Jesus’ name is glorified by answered prayer because we pray in the power of and for the glory of His name. Thank you….I needed this today and I believe others will glean hope from your precious comment.

Hi Good Evening to all, especially to you Pastor Jack.
I shared that I’m having a very big problem 2 weeks ago, and guess what, I’m halfway there, I’m close on solving my problem.
And I’m very very thankful to God.
Everyday (for 2 months) I’m asking God to please help me, or be with me, to solve this problem. I’m believing that He will get me through this. Just like what Pastor shared with me “when we are in the valley of the shadow of death even, He is with us. He doesn’t promise to keep us out of the storms, or from the storms or to take us out of the storms but that He will take us THRU the storms. Take comfort. He loves you.” — it is very powerful, I started reading some quotes and some God-related messages. And now, I really believe that He is always with us. We just need to believe and always put Him inside our hearts. We should keep our relationship with Him strong. Always thank Him, for He is the reason for these all. I love God. I really do. Tomorrow is the day that I will know if this problem is 100% solved. I still have hope, and I believe that it’s already done. Keeping God inside us is the thing everybody should do. He is always with us, he will help us through it all. We must love him unconditionally. We should praise Him. We should always pray and thank Him.

What an encouraging post Bin. I hope that Eve, who is going thru this dark, deep valley right now, can read your post and see that there is hope and that God will never forsake His own nor abandon those Who He calls (Rom 8). I thank God for you and your testimony Bin. You give us all hope.

Hello Ms. or Mrs. Nicole. I am so glad you came here and believe it was no accident. I will be glad to pray for you as the saints are commanded to pray for one another. I am so grieved for you and your precious girls. As a father and grandfather, this is so tragic. You are their world right now and if their mommy stays strong in her faith, they can make it. Let others join me in praying for you and that God sends His Holy Spirit to your husband to send him back to you in Jesus’ Mighty Name, amen.

Homeless with the faith of a mustard seed. October 10, 2013 at 10:42 pm

Hello Pastor Jack,

I officially became homeless today. I’m writing this prayer request from the bed of a stranger who was kind enough to help me out. That of course I acknowledge is God’s doing, not luck or anything else. In the same breadth, I lost my job a I’m in a tight financial bind, in which thus far, I can testify of the Lord’s mercies and favors.

My current situation is the culmination of an intense spiritual warfare that has been going on for years. I come from a family beset with what I would call for lack of a better word, ‘curses’ borne out of being knee deep involvement in Satanism, specifically witchcraft!

I came across this website. I feel hopeless, lost and so very tired. I’m asking that you join my family in prayer! I ask that those who are gifted with interceding and are PRAYER WARRIORS to do so on our behalf. This battle is not ours to win but the Lord’s!

I’m asking this in FAITH! And I surely will come back to report and testify of the goodness and mercies of The Lord.

By the way the person behind all this is relentless and determined not knowing that yes, sometimes we get weary and tired and want to give in, but God always makes sure to walk with is in this valley deep, fire hot battle.

Be blessed and thanks in advance!

Hello “Homeless with the faith of a mustard seed.” I will be honored to pray for you….and you are spot on about the spiritual attacks. I have had death threats, been spammed with pornographic material in my inbox by the enemies which I do not open, and the attacks are getting worse by the day…perhaps the Enemy knows his time is short. I will be on my face, hands, and knees for you my fellow saint.

Dear pastor Jack,

Gaston visiting again.

I want to thank you for this ministry that God has given you. Your prayers have been part of the reason many, including me, have found hope to persevere in our faith. By the grace of God, I have been drawn closer to Christ as He continues to reveal Himself to me through His Word, through the vehicle of suffering, which He often chooses for His saints.

I feel the weight of the numerous burdens laid upon your shoulder. As I read the cries of the likes of Kendra and Homeless, I can’t help but cry out to our Father to give you broader and stronger spiritual shoulders and legs (and knee caps) as you continue your race until the finish line. I can’t wait to hear the Lord loudly tell you in the great assembly, “Well done Jack, good and faithful servant! Come dine with me.”

Awesome is our God!

Hello Gaston. What a grace-filled comment and I so agree….I am doing so much better than I truly deserve and those precious saints you mentioned need to be in our prayers and I pray for you too since you have such a tender heart and exemplifies what a Christians should be like…to be caring, compassionate, and praying for one another. You are a living example of 1 Cor 13 and Romans 12. I thank God for you Gaston and may God richly bless you and your family and whatever you put your hand too.

Amen….our God is an Awesome God and I am a wretched sinner. To be able to be used by God to pray for fellow saints is like God using a broken pottery vessel that is empty and only good to be thrown away yet He filled me up and made some use of me…but that is all to His glory and to Him be the glory forever and ever. I know that God directed you here for a purpose for such a time and place as this for in God’s sovereignty there are no accidents.I know that God can not ever use what is first not broken. Thank you Gaston.

My life is in such a turmoil. down hill ever since my husband of 25 yrs left me. Lost my house now I lost my job. Help me stop not wanting live any more. I surf suicide sites, call the hotline but I cant get this out of my head. I drown myself in bible versus daily to help me get better with God, and for him to put his grace on me. End my pain and fears.

Jack Wellman October 25, 2013 at 8:50 am

Hello Deb and thank you for your honesty. Have you spoken with your pastor? Do you have a church home? What did the pastor say to you? The best way to get out of this is to go and serve others. When we serve others we take our eyes off of ourselves and we are commanded to serve and love one another and not ourselves (Rom 12. 1 Cor 13). Visit the sick, share the gospel with the lost, visit a nursing home, many others have no one to talk to but you can sympathize with them. If you end your pain and fears, you are putting a period where God intends to have it be a comma. If you commit suicide, you had better be 100% sure you are saved for then it will be too late and you will have no chance to repent. Normally, a person that is saved will not end their life and all who live the Christian life will suffer and Peter says to not be surprised by suffering for we all experience this. Serve others, visit others, share the gospel, talk to your pastor….these will all help considerably. What do you think Deb?

Reply

deb October 25, 2013 at 12:26 pm

I have not done anything you suggested lately because I am so depressed. I have always been a caring person always willing and doing for others and not myself. Right now i stay on the couch and apply for jobs and surf the internet on depression and suicide. I am not certain I am totally saved but I am surfing that now and getting down on my knees and repeat….The Bible tells us the simple way to be saved:
“That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Simply pray with a sincere heart:
Lord Jesus, thank you for dying for me on the cross. By faith I say that I believe in You and what You have done for me.
Lord Jesus, I receive You right now into my spirit and into my heart. Oh Lord Jesus, come in! Jesus is Lord! Jesus is my Savior! Amen”

Thank you Jesus for sending Deb to this website so that she might be saved today. I pray you give her comfort and reassure her that You will never leave her or forsake her and that You are with her. I thank God that you brought her here for such a time and place and for the express purpose of having her receive eternal life in Christ Jesus.

Deb, perhaps you could read Psalm 37 to know how to trust in, wait upon, and lean on Him and His timing. To read John chapters 6 & 10 to see how none who come to you shall you lose. Read Romans 8 to see how God secures those who are His for all eternity and then Eph chapters 1 & 2 to see how You planned to save Deb from all eternity. Thank you.

I dont know how im going to pay my bills, that scares me the most. Its what drives me to still surf suicide sites. My life has no purpose even though I know GOD has one for me. I keep repeting that over and over in my head. My chest pounds and I sometimes wish just to have a heart attack and get it over already. I am so confused and lost, trying to be found. My 25 yr marriage is over we were together 30yrs though, left me for a younger woman. I feel so alone and lost. I have family and they care but they cant help my mind only GOD can do that. Exodus 14:15 (NIV)

10 The Lord said to Joshua, “Stand up! What are you doing down on your face? 11 Israel has sinned;
Joshua 7:10:11 (NIV)

Stop whining when God wants you to move forward instead. Stop crying when God wants to deal with your sin instead.

These are most excellent observations my friend you gave with Ex 14 and Joshua 7. There is such truth in this and I need to take these to heart as well. When I am having a “pity party” I see that I alone am the focus and what they call “navel gazing” and that is never helpful and I need to move on and to do this, I find that serving others, praying for others, and visiting others is always a great way to get out of the darkness of self-induced pity and move on. Thanks brother.

My intentions are good and I don’t eant to let my family down but I fear that pride gets in my way and I don’t want to admit that I need help sometimes. I owe it to my family, my wife especially, to Be realistic with my commitments and come through on them. Susan, I just now did pray for you and believe me that God doesn’t punish us when we fall short on occasions or none of us would have any hope. Don’t think that God isn’t forgiving because He is (1 John 1:9) and so just move on and I am glad that you are generous to the work of God because frankly, Christians only give 1.7% of their income to the church and so you are far and above the vast majority of believes. I wish I had you in our church.

I pray to God to order my steps but I feel like He hasn’t moved me yet. I’m waiting on God but it seems like the longer I wait on Him, the more troubles stack on my life. I’m now a single mother with no ends. I’m tired of crying…. I want to believe, but I’m having a hard time seeing past what’s in front of me now….

I understand Someta, at least partially. I know that we cannot always trust our eyes but must look at life with the eyes of faith and know that when it seems God is most silent is when He is most active behind the scenes. I will pray for you my friend. Perhaps Psalm 37 will help for now. Maybe even this one about the storms of life from Psalm 23 at: http://www.whatchristianswanttoknow.com/psalm-23-a-bible-study/

I am asking you to pray for me and my wife and our 1yr old son. I am currently unemployed, lost my job in October last year and it has been a constant struggle financially, emotionally and spiritually but I realize that the closer i keep to the Lord the easier it is to face my daily challenges. I need prayer to be more Christ like and to be a good christian father figure for my son and to be the man and husband that the Lord wants me to be. Hi Jack, Thank you for having such a beautiful website to help troubled souls like us. Can you please pray for my boyfriend (Isaiah) and myself? We are very deeply in love with each other and planned to get married. Isaiah has spoken to my parents and informed them of his intentions to marry me and I have spoken to his Mum and sister too and they are very happy for us. However he is the son of a Pastor and his father has not approved of us being together. Both Isaiah and myself are crushed and miserable since we really wanted this to work (he told me that I am the love of his life). He has constantly been praying asking God to talk to him and tell him if I am ‘the one’ but has not heard an answer as yet. Since he has not heard anything he has taken his father’s answer as an answer from God. Jack, please, please pray for us so that Isaiah and me are able to be together so that we may do God’s work? Please pray that Isaiah get’s and answer directly from God. I really, really do love him and would do anything for him. I have been praying really hard but still feel so hopeless, lost and desperate. Thank you Jack, God bless you.

Reply

Jack Wellman January 30, 2014 at 8:37 pm

Thank you Tracy. I assume your boyfriend is a Christian and so I see nothing wrong. Why his father, a pastor, does not agree is a mystery to me. Are you both not Christians? What church do you attend? Have you both been born again (John 3:3)? Then you would have God’s blessing to marry. When a man and woman marry, God said to Adam that he is to leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife. That is he is to leave and cleave and his parents are NOT God speaking. God speaks to us thru His Word, the Bible, and the Bible says that if two people love each other and are CHristians, then they can marry according to God’s Word. You really only need God the Father’s Word, not a human word. Why does his father object? What has his father given as a reason? I will pray for you both and don’t lose heart. You are both adults and should do what you feel is best and it seems that if you both are believers, then NOTHING or NO ONE should stop you. In fact, if you lived near my church, I am an ordained pastor and would marry you two myself. God does NOT use people to speak to others about His will but God speaks to us all in the Bible, and not thru people. Hope this helps…and will pray. You are adults and have every right to be blessed by the sacred union of marriage. Wish you were close to my church so I could speak to you in person. Don’t wait or depend on his father…God has already spoken in His Word and that is sufficient for us.

Tracy February 1, 2014 at 12:40 am

Dear Pastor Jack,
Thank you so much for giving me hope. Yes, I am a staunch Christian and come from a very religious background. I attend ‘The Edge Church’ in Melbourne. Isaiah is extremely religious too and is a Christian.
Just a bit of a background about me that will make things a bit more clear:
I am from Australia and I was married a couple of years ago to a man who I thought loved me – however I later found out that he only married me to get into the country (like a US green card). It was obvious that he did not care for me and things became worse. I decided to separate and I asked him to move out in June 2013. I met Isaiah 5 months later on a dating website and he is from California, USA. We have been keeping in touch via messages, calls and webcam and have fallen deeply in love with each other. We decided to take things a bit slow and get to know each other better but we are so connected and even complete each others sentences. According to Australian law, I have to wait for 1 year before I can get a divorce so I am waiting patiently. Isaiah and me decided to meet in July this year (where he would come and visit me in Australia). After we met and we got to know each other better, I was going to visit him and his family in California. We did not want to meet before that since I am ‘legally’ married even though I am separated for nearly 8 months. My ex husband and myself were separated under the same roof for 6 months before that. Isaiah and myself want to do the right thing and hence we were waiting for everything to fall into place. He often told me that I was ‘the one’ that God chose for him.
His father told him that he was ashamed of his son because he could not find a ‘partner/wife’ in their area and someone who was not married and going to be divorced. That makes me feel so unworthy and terrible. The sad thing is that his father is married and divorced and remarried. It just hurts that people make statements like that.
Please pray for us Pastor Jack, I need a breakthrough and for Isaiah to understand that he is capable of making his own decisions.
We are both miserable and bawling our eyes out.
Thank you so much, God Bless.

Jack Wellman February 1, 2014 at 9:24 am

I will be glad to pray for this breakthrough and that God would inspire this breakthrough and that whatever happens, must happen for the glory of God and Him alone for that is God’s purpose for creation and for us…to and for His glory and His glory alone.

Thank you James. What a hard place you are in. Yes, I will be glad to pray for you my friend. I am so sorry for your being in such a difficult circumstance. Have you spoken with your pastor about this? If so, what did he say? I would submit a prayer request to the entire church, even if it is “unspoken needs” to respect your privacy. When we have the saints of God joining together in prayer this can make a difference. Also fasting and praying may help. You can count on me to be on my face, hands, and knees for you brother. Please, anyone else join with us. It is not sin to file for bankruptcy by the way and I realize this is a last resort. Let’s all join together for James to pray in the Mighty Name of Jesus so His name will be glorified in answering our prayer in James’ behalf. I plead with you all to do this now and in Christ’s Strong Name, I pray…amen.

Sir,

can God really help or is God just like a concept instead of something alive?

if God is alive and willing to help me, how can I get hold of him and ask him to help me. things are a bit crook and they keep on getting worse. is there a way to change them, with God or maybe some other way if God’s not willing to help.

thanks Sir

First of all Baron, thank you for your question. I would suggest you talk to your pastor first. What did he say if you did talk to him? I would find a church home and schedule a visit with a pastor and counsel with him immediately. As for how God is alive and willing to help you, let me first say that He can help you if you have repented from your sins, confessed them to God, apologized and asked for His forgiveness, and then put your trust in Christ to save you. If you haven’t done these things first, you can not ever receive His help for He won’t help you unless you first come to Him and believe in Christ.

If you are already born again (John3:3) then you should have a church home for there are no “lone ranger” Christians in the New Testament churches. If you want to know of God is alive, read the gospel of John and pray to God to reveal Himself to you. Stay in this gospel for at least 30 days and read it and re-read it. This gospel is one of the best to help those who doubt God’s existence and His divinity better than any other book in the Bible that I know of. God is willing to help if you humble yourself (James 4:6) and trust in Him, cry out to Him, find a Bible-believing church that teaches the Bible and seek counseling and stay on your knees. God says “Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near.” (Isaiah 55:6) … And those who seek me diligently will find me” And Deuteronomy 4:29 says “But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.” God guarantees it!

Dear Pator Jack,
My prayer request is that our Father will answer my prayers soon. I’m in a very desperate financial need, and need help real soon or I can lose my Business that I love very much and my home. I am a Born Again Christian, I read my Bible every day and also read “Call on God in Desperate Times”….
Please pray that our Father will answer my prayers soon and that my Faith will not waiver…..Thank you for your prayers and God Bless you,

Dear Pastor Wellman: If you see this post in time please pray for my daughter ASAP. Please. My daughter needs to pass an exam she took…she truly studied extremely hard for it. Please hold her up to God for help on passing this integral exam. Thank you. God bless you.

Thank you, Pastor Wellman…no, you are not late. I know I sounded frantic. A mother feels her child’s anguish acutely. I hope our Father is merciful. It was a brutal exam, a couple of the teachers simply could not teach and do not communicate well due to a cultural and language barrier. I know my dtr. studied so hard an is exhausted mentally and physically. I can’t sleep from concern, my hope is in the Lord and I thank you and anyone who kept us in prayer.

Please pray for my mother. She fell and has a fractured neck and things are getting worse. She is a stroke patient who is combative in the hospital (because of her brain injury) and they are shuffling her all over. I don’t know what to do and I am afraid. I pray but I feel no wisdom and I am desparate because any moment they will be calling me to send her back to the hospital where she doesn’t do well, or put her on hospice. She can’t talk but she understands and is a strong Christian. I need help and prayer and I don’t feel any answers happening.

I will pray Claudia that God’s will be done in your mother’s situation and that He strengthens you during this time to testing. The godd news is that she will be with God in whatever happens and that is my prayer for those who have not yet repented and trusted in the Savior.

Thank you so much. It is good to not feel so alone. I am really grateful that you have this site. I have come to know that God’s answers seem to come out of nowhere and in very strange ways (to me). You can’t even think up the ways our prayers are answered sometimes…. I am exhausted but wanted to thank you. It is hard to go through things like this. Thank you again.

Indeed Claudia….you are never alone here and of course God is with you always. I agree that when we get to heaven we will find out just how amazingly God has answered our prayers in ways we could not have expected.

Dear Jack

I thank God who led me to your website. The comments have encouraged me. I need your prayers. I am in a crisis, through my own fault. I need Gods forgiveness and help to overcome it. I feel I have woven a tangled web through my own lies (what I thought at the time were necessary to solve my problem). Instead I have dug myself into a hole. One of my favorite scriptures is Prov 3:5. Trust in The Lord with all your heart and he will make your paths straight. I failed to trust him and resorted to my own fixes, and now I realize I should have told the truth all along and trusted. Now I need his deliverance from my self generated crisis. That is the lesson in my situation that when we don’t trust God to truly fix our problem and instead try to “help him”, the results can be dire. Please pray that I find once more, Gods favor, his grace and his mercy. And he rescues me from the pit in which I have fallen.

Sincerely
