Call On God For Help In Desperate Times

by Jack Wellman · Print Print · Email Email

What can we do when we are in desperate situations?  Can we call on God? Can we depend on God?  Can we trust in God?

These are sobering times that we live in today.  Many people have lost jobs and can’t find one.  Others are underemployed and are just barely making it.  The unemployment rate is soaring, the stock market is highly volatile, and famine is spreading worldwide.  Families are losing their homes due to failed mortgages.  There are severe droughts, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, fires, and tornadoes.  And with turmoil going on in the world people are becoming desperate; even the people of God.  What can we do when our backs are against the wall and we have no where to turn and we are in serious trouble?

God actually desires that we be utterly dependent upon Him and that we are in desperate need of His help.  Think of a human father.  What good father would not want his children to turn to him when they need help?  Naturally, a father loves it when his children come to him to seek help.  There is something special about having someone there for you.  God is this true source and He is more reliable than any human father or mother.

God Says Call on Me For Help

God truly loves those that are His.  He loves you!  Listen to what God says for those who are in desperate situations and what He promises when they call upon Him:

Psalm 50:15and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”

Psalm 91:14-16 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.  He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

Psalm 145:18-20The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them. The LORD watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.”

Isaiah 41:17The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the LORD will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.”

Isaiah 55:1, 3Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.”

Isaiah 65:24Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.”

Jeremiah 33:3Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

Micah 7:7But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.”

God Says You Can Depend On Me

God wants us to depend on Him and not rely on ourselves.  God is our Father and we are His children. Children can not make it in this world without their parents.  How much more so can we not make it without the help of our Heavenly Father?  If we try to solve our problems by our self then we can really do nothing to ultimately solve them. God is actually more glorified in our weakness because by His strength He is able to display His might.  He stands ever ready, able, and willing to help us when we really need it but we must first acknowledge of our need for His help.  We truly find freedom from worry when we learn to depend upon God.  Read for yourself:

John 15:5 ““I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

Philippians 2:13for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”

1 Peter 5:7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. “

Matthew 28:20bAnd surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 6:25-27  “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”

Matthew 6:30-31  “If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?  So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?”

Romans 4:20-21Yet he [Abraham] did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,  being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”

Philippians 4:19And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

God Says You Can Trust in Me

Our money says “In God We Trust” but it is hard to trust when everything seems to be caving in around us.  Nothing looks like it will turn out right.  At times there is no evidence that God is even with us so how can we trust in Him during calamitous times?  In reality, we can sometimes not even trust our eyes…but if there is anything in this universe you can trust, it is God Almighty.  It is the invisible hand that is placed in ours that never lets go.  Like a parent holding their child‘s hand, God is securely caring for us, never letting us slip or fall:

Isaiah 41:13For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you.”

Proverbs 28:26 “Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.”

Jeremiah 17:5-7This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.”

Psalm 32:7You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.”

Jeremiah 32:27 I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?”

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Psalm 36:7 “How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!  People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.”

2 Corinthians 1:20 “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”

2 Peter 1:4aThrough these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature.”

1 Chronicles 28:20 “David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the LORD is finished.”

Conclusion

When everything seems to be falling in around us, when the walls seem to be closing in on us, when nothing in our world or in this world seems to hold any hope, when everything looks completely hopeless, just remember that God is not ever caught by surprise. He will save those who are His from calamity (Heb 7:25).  He isn’t ever going to abandon us, forsake us, or leave us.  If you are not one of His then you do not have such hope nor can you claim any of His mighty promises.   I pray right now that you seek Him because anyone who seeks Him He has said He can be found.  As it is written in Isaiah 55:6 “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.”  Second Corinthians 6:2 says, “For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.  I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”  Tomorrow may be too late but it not too late right now to put your complete trust in Him, to depend on Him, to call on Him.  This is my prayer for you.  Please contact us if you make such a decision.

Please pray as I fear I have fallen away from God. My heart is literally hardened. God blessed me with the gift of faith, and I did not exercise it well before I was tested. Please pray that God will have mercy on my soul, and continue to grant me grace.

Hello HJ. If you are worried that you’ve fallen away, you probably have not done so, because those who fall away don’t care….so since you DO care, that’s evidence you probably haven’t. Please talk with your pastor…call him today. Please. Praying for you my friend.

I came upon your site tonight as I searched for prayers for the desperate. I truly am desperate. I have suffered from mental illness for far too long, cannot hold down a job or afford helpful medication, am over my head in debt, and have no family or friends I can turn to. Please pray for me. God bless.

Please Pray for me and my wife! I Love her soooo much and have failed her as a husband. We both are sinners and the past is the past for both of us!! I am so scared that I will loose the person that I asked God for and that he sent to me…in His time I waited and He delivered! I have not listened to my heart when He spoke and now here I sit today. I am not giving up on my beautiful wife or my family, but I am turning to God and only God for wisdom and Love. By doing this I told God that I am His and to use me where He needs me and I will follow! I also realize that with this promise, satan is going to come at me and my wife “us” like never before, I/we need prayers to fight this Spiritual battle my wife and I share! I pray Father let Your will be done not mine! In Jesus name I pray

I also pray for those that left a comment on this website. My God bless you and lift your heart! God is Love!! Thank you!

We have to stand strong in the God that made us. Im 23 but ive suffered like people twice my age. God brought me to himself,he gathered me home two years ago. At first i could not believe someone could love me,(deep psychological worth issues from being born an illegitimate child). It has been long journey but God has been faithful to heal me,my broken educational dreams, failed only relationship. Now i undertand that sometimes timing isnt right and we need refinement before God can give us what we ask. Looking back i can safely comfirm that my dreams where too small, now i have God-sized dreams that can allow His strength to shine and make me need Him,and keep leaning on Him and that i cannot find fulfilment in a relatnshp or another finite human being, but rather i was made for a love affair with my Creator and i must say I LOVE JEHOVAH TO BOOT and i have discoverd in him the intimacy i always needed, ive always been such a lonely person, and friendshp and discipline(im two years celibate, despite an unusually high sex drive for a female haha, and God has mercifully put it to sleep,do not awaken bfr love pleases). Its true that everythng should spring from love of God,then everythng else (all the right things)falls into place. Im pleased to say that I NOW HAVE HOPE FOR MY FUTURE I NEVER POSSESSED BEFORE AND PEACE KNOWING HE WILL FULFILL HIS PURPOSES FOR ME. He knows me,trully knows me and loves ME and for me thats enough. It motivates me to please Him,not to sin and maintain our love. Im telling you God is intoxicating,im not even lonely i talk to Him and for those who dont know THE HOLY SPIRIT DOES SPEAK TO YOU,and the more you spend time talking to God,praying and reading the bible you will learn to hear His voice and discern the wooings of His spirit,(ladies here is a man who will never stop pursuing you), and give you direction and keep you company. And teach and discipline, sharpening your conscience,i feel miserable and distant from God when i sin,i can literally feel His displeasure but once you confess your error He is so faithful to forgive, cleanse and never remember again. I must thank Jehovah that He has given me such an acute sense of His presence, maybe its because for so long i struggld wth feeling alone and unseen,so lonely so desperately lonely. I feel like i have a friend at last,sm1 i cn count on,sm1 i dont have to prove myself to,for the longest time i did and became such an impossibly high achiever academically to prove subconsciously that i was also worth something, setting myself up for endless pain when every failure i encountered i treatd as a personal affront, thereby confirming what i subconsciously believd to be true about myself, that i wasnt worthy of even the air i breathd,no right to life,a result and tangible proof of other peoples moral failures. Bt then that verse freed me (You knew me in my mothers womb and you knit me together, and mydays where ordaind bfor i came to be,that God creatd everythng for His good pleasure) . He takes great pleasure in me ,you see.I thank God who raisd such a selfless child who died that we might know God the Father, that Epitome of goodness, graciousness ,kindness, warmth, love, faithfulness, wisdom, majesty and reliability. I love God, so help me God i adore Jehovah,…and Jesus, sweet sweet Jesus, what a wonder He is…

Hi,

I need your prayers for me. I am in serious trouble now which I foresee,is somehow impossible to solve. I am stuck in a situation where I trusted my friend too much to sell promotions in airfares and I followed her. Unfortunately, not a single promotion was there. So I am responsible to pay everyone whom I sold tickets to. I am terribly pressed down and everything seems to fall apart. God knows I had a good intention. But now, I have to surpass everything. I am trembling. I cried to God everytime but it seems I am always pressured. Please pray for me

God, He is my master my leader my father and my lover, everything he shall tell me to do I she’ll do with pleaser as he says. He loves me like a father loves their child, he has a never ending love for me whatever I shall do, he cares for me like a farmer does care for his crops, he tended to me like a farmer tends to his crops. I am his seed to grow into a tree and he is the waterer, feeder, carer, and lover of his seeds. He shall raise them up but they shall chose which way they shall grow, they can grow to him and or they can grow away from him, he gives his seeds a choice, you cannot force a pant to grow as you want it to. When I thought God didn’t care for me or love me he came and helped me, when I was hungry he fed me, when I was thirsty he let me drink, when I was cold he cradled me and kept me warm, when I seek for his word he shall giveth it to me, he showed me he loved me, and for you it shall be.

I need Devine intervention. My heart breaks that I will be separated from my 12 and 15 year old girls as a change in primary custody to their dad. I will be 8.5 hours away. He is a very good dad and loves our girls very much. 15 wants this change and 12 just wants to be with her sister. I love my babies and can’t imagine not packing their lunches and hugging them every day. Please Father fix this! Somehow allow me to be a apart of my girls daily lives. They are my greatest treasure and I am so broken inside. I only have a few days left before this takes place.

Please pray for me… I am in desperately needs of God’s intervention in my life regarding my financial turmoil. I am in so much debts and dying to get out of this financial issues throughout my life. I urgently needs for God’s miracle in my life. I confess I am a sinner and seek for God’s forgiveness as well…. I just can’t stand it anymore and thinking of ended my life, as I realise that God has given many opportunities and Grace but I just ignored them all and choose my own way of life. I hope God will forgive me as a sinner and a failure. I just don’t know what should I do in life now.

Praying as I write this Kezia. Please don’t end your life. That is surely not God’s will. We all fail. Call your pastor, ask for the prayers of the church (even as unspoken needs), and know that there are others out here that will be praying for you. We all are sinners, but we can confess them and they are forgiven (1 John 1:9). Now, you must forgive yourself.
